These Functional Skills - English, Maths and ESOL courses are for adults who want to become more confident in reading, writing, Maths and spoken English. Improving these skills can be the beginning of the road to achieving your long term goals. We offer these courses at different levels at most of our centres in West Midlands. We will help you find a course at the right level so that you can be successful. These courses will help you to: Improve your job prospects. Develop good communication skills. Brush up your reading and writing skills. Improve your spelling. Build confidence in working with numbers and Maths. You will gain a nationally recognised qualifications in English and Maths which will allow you to work towards further qualifications. If English isn’t your first language become more confident in your speaking, listening, reading and writing.

How do I join an English, Maths or ESOL course?
• Contact our Head Office in Birmingham or our Training Centre in Walsall
• Phone the centre or call in and tell them which course you are interested in
• They will give you a time to come in for a BKSB initial assessment. The assessment can last up to an
hour and a half.
• Please remember to phone or call in to book ahead.
After your BKSB initial assessment, the centre staff will offer you a place on a course at the right level at
a time that suits you. If there are no courses at the right level or the time does not suit you, we will refer
you to another centre.
Please note: We cannot check your skills or offer you a place on a course unless you bring your passport,
proof of benefits and certificates.
How much will it cost?
English and Maths courses are FREE to UK and EU citizens.
ESOL courses are free for people on Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or other eligible income based benefits
that are doing the course to help gain employment in the future.
Other learners may be eligible for discounted fees.
