Function and qualities of nurse

1. CARE GIVER :_ ASSIST PATIENT PHYSICALLY AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY.  PROVIDE DIRECT CARE AND SHOW CONCERN FOR PATIENT WELFARE AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE PATEINT AS A PERSON
 Helps patient to recognize and cope with stressful psychological or social problem, to develop and improve interpersonal relationships, and to promote personal growth.  Provides emotional, intellectual and psychological support
 As a advocate of the patient and family, makes a clinical and ethical decisions for the ultimate benefit of the patient and family.  Nurse acts on behalf of the patient and secures patient’s health care rights and stand up for them.
 Protect the patient’s rights.  It involves concern for actions on behalf of the patient to bring about a change.
 Initiate changes or assists patients to make modification in themselves or in the system of care.
 Makes decisions ,coordinates activities of others. And allocate resources.  Plans, gives direction, develop staff , monitor operations, give rewards fairly, and represents both staff administrations as needed.
 Plays an important role in restoration of health of the patient.  The nurse works with patient to regain the health status as close as possible to the premorbidity state.
 Helps in promoting the comfort of patient and family during the period of care.
 Support the patient through health care team and support people in community.
 Provides information and helps the patient to learn or acquire new knowledge and technical skills.  Explain information to the patient.
 As a leader, coordinates the activities of members of the nursing staff in delivering nursing care, and has personnel policy and budgetary responsibilities for a specific nursing unit or agency.
 Participates in identifying significant researchable problems and scientific investigations.
 To be a good nurse, a person should be… 1. self – confident 2. Humble and honest 3. Loyal 4. Cooperative 5. Good listener 6. Keen observer 7. Good administrator
