A talk about ux, trust and privacy - and how these are becoming increasing important in human-computer interaction. This connection we have with our smart-everythings, it is no longer merely about exchanging data back and forth. Our connection with computers now does revolve around values which we normally find in human-to-human relationships: understanding and trust.
We humans expect that these machines do the computing effort to understand us; smart personalisation. We also expect that we can trust these machines – and the companies behind them - to keep what they learn about us to themselves. We expect them to respect our privacy. Our security.
And as designers, we need to deliver great, personal experiences. We also need to deliver trustworthy products. We owe it to both our users and the people who hire us to actively think about privacy, and to implement privacy in the flows and designs we deliver.

Artificial Intelligence Empowering the Future of Digital Transformationijtsrd
Artificial Intelligence is not only about the machines that play an authoritative role in humans, but they both are working together. Machines provide the human with the ability of insight and perspective but the machines will not provide the decisive role of supplying judgement and creativity. There is a huge scope of artificial intelligence in this era. The combination of human creativity and technology together results in the excitement that can solve various problems and challenges related to the world. Principles of Artificial Intelligence & Machine LearningJerry Lu
Artificial intelligence has captivated me since I worked on projects at Google that ranged from detecting fraud on Google Cloud to predicting subscriber retention on YouTube Red. Looking to broaden my professional experience, I then entered the world of venture capital by joining Baidu Ventures as its first summer investment associate where I got to work with amazingly talented founders building AI-focused startups.
Now at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, I am looking for opportunities to meet people with interesting AI-related ideas and learn about the newest innovations within the AI ecosystem. Within the first two months of business school, I connected with Nicholas Lind, a second-year Wharton MBA student who interned at IBM Watson as a data scientist. Immediately recognizing our common passion for AI, we produced a lunch-and-learn about AI and machine learning (ML) for our fellow classmates.
Using the following deck, we sought to:
- define artificial intelligence and describe its applications in business
- decode buzzwords such as “deep learning” and “cognitive computing”
- highlight analytical techniques and best practices used in AI / ML
- ultimately, educate future AI leaders
The lunch-and-learn was well received. When it became apparent that it was the topic at hand and not so much the free pizzas that attracted the overflowing audience, I was amazed at the level of interest. It was reassuring to hear that classmates were interested in learning more about the technology and its practical applications in solving everyday business challenges. Nick and I are now laying a foundation to make these workshops an ongoing effort so that more people across the various schools of engineering, design, and Penn at large can benefit.
With its focus on quantitative rigor, Wharton already feels like a perfect fit for me. In the next two years, I look forward to engaging with like-minded people, both in and out of the classroom, sharing my knowledge about AI with my peers, and learning from them in turn. By working together to expand Penn’s reach and reputation with respect to this new frontier, I’m confident that we can all grow into next-generation leaders who help drive companies forward in an era of artificial intelligence.
I’d love to hear what you think. If you found this post or the deck useful, please recommend them to your friends and colleagues!

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

2.Thoughts and Perspectives
3.Predictions for 2022
Agenda
3. 1. Industry Data Cloud and Marketplace
The proliferation of the mesh architecture and the
Data Cloud will continue. Companies would unleash
the Internet of Data (i.e., the Data Cloud). Teams on
the Data Cloud will have ubiquitous access, sharing,
and collaboration of datasets. Verticals would tab into
this to build industry-specific use cases around data.
E.g., Supply chain vertical, healthcare, banking.
Players in all these verticals would consolidate, share
and collaborate with data to solve industry problems.
The marketplace of data and engineering outputs
would take hold. Instead of the code editor, the
marketplace would be the point of entry for
development. Developers who typically reach for the
code editor first would go for the market.
4. 2. Composable Applications
The need to rapidly deliver a seamless,
personalized digital experience will
continue. Emphasizes would be placed on
Portability, Interoperability, cross-cloud,
platform, and location agnostics solutions.
Repackaged businesses capabilities,
automation that runs anywhere, any cloud,
leveraging any language for any skillset;
will empower the tech team and the
business and non-technical teams to solve
their problems.
5. 3. Hyper-Convergence
The walls that separate fields, disciplines, and
industries will continue to collapse. Technology,
biology, chemistry, culture, politics, and A.I. will blare,
and the distinctions would be less apparent. Hence
extreme collaboration of not just data but mindshare
would be needed to take interdsplicanary problems at
scale. Case in point, COVIDs blast radius isn't just
limited to medicine or pharma. Supply chain,
commerce, politics, education all have to respond. A
collaborative and convergent response we saw will
only continue to grow stronger.
The tendency to lose sight of these distinct problem
spaces often leads to sub-optimal results in tool
selection or solution approach.
6. 4. Auto-Everything
The need to automate everything.
AutoML, AutoAI, Auto ML, Auto
Ingest, Auto Quality, and Auto
Engineering. Self-healing processes
and pipelines that eliminate humans
in the middle would be the goal of
many engineering teams.
Ultimately, the end goal is faster
development, quicker iteration, and
fewer errors and risk.
7. 5. Privacy-Enhancing Computating
The trade-offs between privacy and
accuracy will continue fiercely. The
regulatory landscape will continue to
shake up, and companies will find
new ways of surviving in a cookieless
world. Capabilities like Differential
Privacy, Federated learning,
Homomorphic encryption, Data
Clean rooms, e.t.c. will be embraced
by more teams and industries.
8. 6. Remote Natives
The generation of workers who've
never stepped foot into an office
building will be three years into their
tenure.
Remote first platforms like Metaverse
will take hold, Fusion Teams will gain
momentum, and virtual and more
immersive work experiences will
continue.
9. 7. Generalized Language Models
2022 will be the breakout year of language models.
GPT-4, GPT-Neo, Jurassic-1 Jumbo, GPT-DALLe,
e.t.c. will take hold and get even closer to
engineering teams. A.I. labs and engineering teams
will elevate from producing one-off consumable
models; to creating more generalized models and
platforms. Teams will build on these generalized
models to solve wicked problems like summarization,
medical notes parsing, text to image, e.t.c.
One of the big A.I. NLP research labs (DeepMind,
OpenAI, and FAIR (Facebook A.I. research]) will
deploy the first 1 trillion parameters language model.
And (prediction) Microsoft will go all in and buy
OpenAI.
10. 8. Anti-Fragile
Dev teams would continue on the DevOps

Stakeholders, auditors, and the market will
demand tests for unexpected failures .i.e
Antifragile systems.

Operational excellence will be at the
forefront of teams. Fragile systems that
crack under pressure will not be
acceptable.
Natural and artificial disasters will be in
no short supply. Teams will build systems
that account for known unknowns and
unknown ones - like COVID. And this
takes maniacal focus on Innovation and
operations.

I have this on the list because I had it on a
previous list. DARQ is promoted heavily by
Accenture and stands for distributed ledger
technology, artificial intelligence, extended
reality, and quantum computing.
Every single one of the technologies will be
auspicious. Combined, they are
unstoppable. In this space going into 2022,
NFTs will make their way into corporate
boardroom discussions; we will see another
impressive Quantum computing milestone.

Book Summary
Technology and Data Analytics is a booming and lucrative field to build a career in. Many people on a the sidelines looking in don’t have a game plan on how to
get in. And as we know, Failing to plan, is planning to fail.
This book will inspire you by presenting a solid game plan for success. Beyond inspiration though, the book is meant to be 100% tactical. You will be exposed to
many concepts, along with a rich library of resources in each chapter to help you learn the concepts in depth.
In the end, you’ll be presented with compelling stories of individuals like Patrick who’ve changed their lives and are making a difference in the companies they
work for because they had a game plan that they executed well.
At the end of the day, I wouldn’t have done my job if you finished without having a game plan for yourself or a useful place to start. Whether you take it
sequentially as presented here, or some variation of it, be sure to have a game plan. It’s that important.
