  5. Last year I mentioned that Frog were interested in getting a better understanding of the data available within our schools. I told you the story of Tesco’s loyalty card. Tesco noticed that it was men that were buying nappies, so they put the Beer CLICK by the Nappies – beer sales went up For their objective of “selling us more shit” this is a good thing Personal details on the loyalty card registration Tracking sales at the till Our equivalent of sales at the till? Doesn’t give kids or parents any idea of: How they are getting on Where they need help Or where to go to get that help Doesn’t tell us anything meaningful There just for reporting, nothing to do with children or their education CLICK

Let’s go back to Tesco Tesco can get these insights because of technology It’s technology that makes this practical – bar codes and clever tills CLICK [reveal prices] So what if we wipe the slate clean and dare to ask the question, “what can we do in education now that we couldn’t do 30 years ago?”  CLICK
  9. So if valuable for Tesco to see what people have bought Not also valuable for us to see: How children are getting on with all their learning objectives? Useful for children and their mum and dad to be able to see this level of detail, too?   10. The more time we’ve spent working on this - the more we’ve come to realise that this is a big moment not just for Frog, but for UK education. And the more come to realise that this is inevitable – WHEN not IF Different world today than even 10 years ago Can do things now we couldn’t back then Better information better decisions more transparency more control a richer understanding about what we do every day   It’s going to happen whether we like it or not. The only question is WHEN.   So what are the challenges? What’s stopping us? CLICK 
  11. Is it ofsted? What do we think ofsted would prefer to see? School focusing on children Systems to allow lead their own learning That involve parents and Provide transparency Or used same system as last 30 years and changed the words a bit? Which one is going to inspire confidence in them that the leadership is strong and focused on the right things?   We have some evidence of this - At one of our Life After Levels events we heard a school tell us that they’d started using the NAHT assessment model and that Ofsted were very happy to see what they were doing. This school had a few issues as they tried to adapt to a new way of working, but to their surprise Ofsted were very encouraging.
  12. “So we can see the benefit in greater transparency, but who’s going to put all this information in?”   This is where we’ve been spending most of our time: Mobile Apps Partner integrations Automate evidence and judgments You’ll see that later on Can’t remove everything, but over time we can remove vast majority This is where the magic is starting to happen, this is what we couldn’t do 30 years ago CLICK 
  13. Or is it us? Been this way for 30 years Up to 55 know nothing else (not much older than me) What if I mess it up? What will Ofsted say? What about everyone else at school? Safer to stick to what I know. Before the election I heard a teacher say they were expecting labour to get back in and that they’ll put levels back in place, so they were ignoring this whole “nonsense”. That didn’t happen. Levels are gone. CLICK 
  14. So. Are we gonna reinvent levels, but give them a different name, keep our heads down and hope that somehow this all goes away? Are we going to focus on what we THINK ofsted want and run our education system by second guessing them CLICK  or are we going to take the opportunity given to us to reinvent the way we work with our children?   are we going to focus on the kids, focus on teaching and learning and trust that ofsted will congratulate us for it? What say we take control and do the right thing, take back ownership of the teaching profession?   CLICK 
  15.   When a doctor gives a diagnosis, no-one checks up on her, they trust her CLICK  When a lawyer gives a course of action no-one checks up on him, they trust him. CLICK  But When a teacher gives a judgment on a child’s education, CLICK  some folks in suits turn up to check whether they agree or not.  CLICK  Is that right?

[AS PER FINAL IMAGE EARLIER] I’m not saying we don’t need Ofsted, but I am saying wouldn’t it be great if the only thing they could challenge you on is where you’ve set the bar for what “good” looks like? Now I know not everyone is going to agree with me But there are enough of you – wanting to step into a new world To focus on the children, you in driving seat, not Ofsted One teacher told me that it reminded them of why they joined teaching profession – to help children be what they can be To those of you taking the first steps, those of you who are able to see this change as an opportunity rather than a threat, you should be proud of yourselves.  CLICK

This is your 1984.     This is the most exciting opportunity that we’ve - had in education in the UK for a generation.   Not going to be easy I do understand the massive pressures you’re all under at the moment Might be next year before you go for it – can’t all do straight away Start learning, understanding, planning Okay to watch other first, you don’t HAVE to be first Whether you choose to work with Frog on this or not, please, please let’s not just carry on the way we were, changing the numbers on a meaningless scale and hoping it’ll all go away   That would be cheating our children out of a better education, and they deserve more than that.
