Editor's Notes
Frog three never really managed to makes its way into mainstream use at derby moor.
Its launch was riddled with minor issues that really started to put staff off using the VLE.
These issues weren’t anyone’s fault, it was just some teething pains we had with our existing policies on students usernames ect.
Ultimately, that coupled with how time consuming it was to make frog three pages it was an up hill struggle.
This however made a big turnaround when we upgraded to Frog learn. Initially FrogLearn sat on top of our existing Frog 3 platform.
So admin tasks were performed in the Frog3 Toolkit. This would then, after some time, reflect in Frog Learn. But I will touch on that in more detail later.
From that point staff began to embrace the use of digital content on a bigger scale.
What really motivated us when It came to the migration was the improvement on waiting times.
By that I mean how long it would take an adjustment in the Frog 3 toolkit to take effect in Frog learn.
Sometimes these changes could take up to half an hour
and this could result in students being left out of valuable learning time.
Admin tools are more visually based and offer a better experience than what was on off from the Frog 3 tool kit.
The technical set was very minimal.
We hit a complication when it was noticed that our back system was out of date
and because of this we had to delay migration.
Regretfully wasting the service teams time.
It wasn’t a massive hurdle, but its something worth looking out for.
And if you don’t know what back up you are currently running, go check and get it sorted regardless of migration.
It also added the implication of the extra cost of storage space for the new back up system.
The transition to the Froglearn only platform has made the overall Frog experience for staff a much more user friendly one.
Any problems with profile access can be addressed more swiftly and with much greater effect. No one is left out of the learning waiting for a password reset.
staff and students struggling to log in to Frog may be a unique issue to derby moor, it doesn’t change the fact that Frog learns immediate was one of our most noted benefits.
Additional widgets. Because we have gone Full Froglearn we now have access to some amazing Parent portal widgets. It is the firs time we have had a parental engagement portal at the school and FrogLearn will be helping us take those steps.
As a school we decided to begin recording homework with Frog starting with year 7 and in september the whole school.
In the new academic term we will be using frog learn to cover lessons within certain faculties. This is in effort to restrict the impact absent staff can have on students.
The migration has encouraged staff to use the vle and reflect changes that have occurred across the curriculum in a truly innovative an unique way.
But of all FrogLearn has given our students a platform for learning that is designed by the people who know them best, their teachers.
