Building Relationships...Restoring Hope
FY2013 ANNUAL REPORT
Message from Tim and Jerry
Dear Friend,
If you are holding this publication in your hands, chances are
you’re among the hundreds of Friends listed on the following
pages. On behalf of the Four Programs, we extend our most
sincere thanks. Without the support of folks like you, we couldn’t
have helped so many of our fellow Granite Staters. While our staff
and volunteers - the true champions of what we do - continue to
shine as exemplars of efficiency and dedication, 2013 was a time
when the need for our services had never been greater.
Much of our good work to improve seniors’ quality of life and help
families at risk of homelessness is supported through government
and United Way grants. By contrast, our flagship Youth Mentoring
Program is funded principally through private donations from
individuals, businesses, and foundations. Donor support has been
generous, but it has not been sufficiently strong to sustain the
program’s 150 mentor relationships. While our mentors volunteer
their time, supporting their combined 13,000 hours of annual
service through ongoing training and case management does
require a small but dedicated staff.
Each mentoring match requires about $1,600 of support - a major
but worthwhile investment of resources. The Friends Program is
deeply committed to our volunteers and the youth they encourage
so we will be embarking upon an ambitious plan to ensure Youth
Mentoring’s long-term sustainability.
In addition to a refocusing of our overall fundraising efforts,
the Friends Program will be building an endowment to support
the Youth Mentoring program. To this end, we are pleased to
report that a Board member and his family have made a $50,000
leadership gift to kickstart our efforts. We are profoundly
appreciative of this gesture and their desire to see others be
inspired by their example.
As a nonprofit agency devoted to empowering individuals and
strengthening communities, we rely on the financial support of
donors like you. With this annual report, we reflect on the good
that your contribution helped us achieve in 2013. Your continued
support helps the Friends Program build hope one relationship at
a time.
With our sincere gratitude,
Tim McGinley Jerome K. Madden
President, Board of Trustees Executive Director

Fenway Fun
with a Friend
Kerri Pratt has been Carissa’s mentor since
2011. They have a lot of fun together. They
go out to eat, talk, play basketball, and even
have beauty makeovers. Recently, a Friends
RSVP volunteer donated Red Sox tickets to the
Youth Mentoring Program, allowing Kerri and
Carissa to enjoy a day at Fenway. Your
donation last year helped support 150
mentors like Kerri and the youth they
encourage. Thank you.
10
Ways to Give
Cash/Check/Credit Card
This is the quickest and simplest form of contribution and has an immediate impact.
Through the Web Site or over the Phone
You can make a secure on-line donation with your credit card by visiting www.friendsprogram.org. Over-the-
phone donations may be made by calling Development Director Mark Foynes at 603-228-1193, ext. 223.
In-kind Contributions
Donations of goods and services directly benefit those we serve.
Matching Gifts
Many companies match employees’ charitable contributions. Ask your employer if this is an option.
Stocks and Bonds
Making your annual gift with appreciated securities has many
advantages. In most cases, the full market value of the securities is
deductible, while a capital gains tax is eliminated. A direct electronic
transfer is quick, easy, and can be handled by your broker.
Bequests/Planned Gifts - The Legacy Society
A future gift effected through a will or trust enables you to maximize your
support and meet financial, tax, and estate planning goals. Bequests
and estate gifts are used to support important strategic objectives as
determined by the Board of Trustees. Legacy donors may also prescribe
a specific purpose such as to support our Youth Mentoring endowment.
Please consider joining our Legacy Society.
Pledge
A pledge of any amount on any schedule can be made. We can help you set up a weekly, monthly or quarterly
giving program using your credit or debit card, payroll deduction, or a pledge reminder form.
For more information on how you can support the Friends Program, please contact Development Director
Mark Foynes at 603-228-1193, ext. 223 or mfoynes@friendsprogram.org.

The Friends Program is a non-profit agency that recruits,
trains and supports volunteers to meet community needs.
Our mission is to strengthen communities by building
relationships that empower people, encourage community
service, and restore faith in the human spirit.
We accomplish this by providing youth mentoring,
emergency housing for families and fulfilling the need of
seniors and retired people to actively contribute to the
community.

  • 1. Emergency Housing Foster Grandparents RSVP Youth Mentoring Building Relationships...Restoring Hope FY2013 ANNUAL REPORT
  • 2. Message from Tim and Jerry Dear Friend, If you are holding this publication in your hands, chances are you’re among the hundreds of Friends listed on the following pages. On behalf of the Four Programs, we extend our most sincere thanks. Without the support of folks like you, we couldn’t have helped so many of our fellow Granite Staters. While our staff and volunteers - the true champions of what we do - continue to shine as exemplars of efficiency and dedication, 2013 was a time when the need for our services had never been greater. Much of our good work to improve seniors’ quality of life and help families at risk of homelessness is supported through government and United Way grants. By contrast, our flagship Youth Mentoring Program is funded principally through private donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations. Donor support has been generous, but it has not been sufficiently strong to sustain the program’s 150 mentor relationships. While our mentors volunteer their time, supporting their combined 13,000 hours of annual service through ongoing training and case management does require a small but dedicated staff. Each mentoring match requires about $1,600 of support - a major but worthwhile investment of resources. The Friends Program is deeply committed to our volunteers and the youth they encourage so we will be embarking upon an ambitious plan to ensure Youth Mentoring’s long-term sustainability. In addition to a refocusing of our overall fundraising efforts, the Friends Program will be building an endowment to support the Youth Mentoring program. To this end, we are pleased to report that a Board member and his family have made a $50,000 leadership gift to kickstart our efforts. We are profoundly appreciative of this gesture and their desire to see others be inspired by their example. • 11. Ways to Give Cash/Check/Credit Card This is the quickest and simplest form of contribution and has an immediate impact. Through the Web Site or over the Phone You can make a secure on-line donation with your credit card by visiting www.friendsprogram.org. Over-the- phone donations may be made by calling Development Director Mark Foynes at 603-228-1193, ext. 223. In-kind Contributions Donations of goods and services directly benefit those we serve. Matching Gifts Many companies match employees’ charitable contributions. Ask your employer if this is an option. Stocks and Bonds Making your annual gift with appreciated securities has many advantages. In most cases, the full market value of the securities is deductible, while a capital gains tax is eliminated. A direct electronic transfer is quick, easy, and can be handled by your broker. Bequests/Planned Gifts - The Legacy Society A future gift effected through a will or trust enables you to maximize your support and meet financial, tax, and estate planning goals. Bequests and estate gifts are used to support important strategic objectives as determined by the Board of Trustees. Legacy donors may also prescribe a specific purpose such as to support our Youth Mentoring endowment. Please consider joining our Legacy Society. Pledge A pledge of any amount on any schedule can be made. We can help you set up a weekly, monthly or quarterly giving program using your credit or debit card, payroll deduction, or a pledge reminder form. For more information on how you can support the Friends Program, please contact Development Director Mark Foynes at 603-228-1193, ext. 223 or mfoynes@friendsprogram.org. 11 The Friends Program Legacy Society Evelyn Arell Robert & Robyn Cotton Adelma E.
