• The pyramid is the plot structure of the story
• A plot shows the causal structure of actions
and event within the story. It is the literary
element that describes the structure of a
story.
• Freytag’s pyramid consists of 5 parts
THE 5 PARTS
• 1. Exposition: The start of the story. Usally establishes the
universe it is set in (setting the scene)
• 2. Rising Action: Conflict or a state of crisis arises drawing the
audience in.
• 3. Climax: The most intense part of the story. Often seen as the
‘turning point’ (can be action or mentally)
• 4. Falling action: Action which is a result of the climax
• 5. Resolution: The conclusion of the story. It tends to tie all
threads together.
