This presentation outlines and explains the elements of plot. I have used this for my 8th and 10th grade students.

A) Exposition: The
introduction of the
setting, characters, and
conflict

B) Rising Action: Events (usually 3)
that lead up to the climax of the
story.

C) Climax: What we want to know!
The highest point of suspense in
the story.

7. Falling Action
D) Falling Action: Ending of the
conflict. Events that lead up to
the resolution (or
dénouement).

8. Dénouement (Resolution)
E) Resolution: The ending of the
story. Events are resolved. A
solution.
