version is generally for dinner
jackets. The single-breasted
jacket may be worn with a
waistcoat, a close fitting waist
length garment, without
sleeves or collar. Waistcoat may
be made of the same fabric of
the suit. It has a v shaped neck
and the back is of silk . Also
called , the british style suit , it
generally gives a casual look as
compared to the double
breasted ‘
Double Breasted
The double-breasted is the one
which has two front
overlapping across the body. It
is traditionally ventless i.e.,
having no flaps at the back. It
generally has four or six button
options. It is also known as the
Italian style suit and generally
worn by tall men for an elegant
look. It is more of a
conservative and a neat
tailoring piece.

buttons. Three buttons
give it a more formal look.
Lately, linen suits are a big
draw in this category.

generally in dark colors and
traditional fit , lately slim fit is
preferred

cuts and silhouettes. Fabrics

DOUBLE
BREASTED
SUITS
double-breasted refers to a coat or jacket with wide, overlapping
front flaps and two parallel columns of buttons or snaps. In most
modern double-breasted coats, one column of buttons is decorative,
while the other functional. The other buttons, placed on the outside
edge of the coat breast, allow the overlap to fasten reversibly, right
lapel over left lapel. To strengthen the fastening, a functional inner-
button, called the jigger (or anchor button), is usually added to
parallel-fasten the over-lapped layers together from the inside.
Double-breasted suit jackets were popular from the mid-1930s
until the late 1950s, and again from the mid-1980s to the mid-
1990s. Today, double-breasted jackets are not as popular, and it is
difficult to find them at many retail clothing stores; however, they
continue to be produced for and advocated by the high-end
menswear lines of Joseph Abboud and Ralph Lauren, as well as by
bespoke tailors such as Thomas Mahonthey have also seen a small
comeback in European and American youth fashion, albeit in a
slimmer, more modern cut.
