21. Fair price shop (FPS) is an essential strategy for
government to accomplish food security, by ensuring
availability of food grains to the people who cannot
afford it at the market price. However 57% of the FPS
food grains don’t reach the intended beneficiaries as
there are leakage in the system.
Anaj Mitr is a point of sail (POS) device for blocking
the pilferage in fair price shops. The device will
enable users to log in through biometric information
and conduct transaction at FPS, enabling transfer of
benefit to the genuine individual. The link between the
weighing machine and POS device enable accuracy
in transaction and its connection to server keeps a
track flow of the rationed items in FPS.

People who cannot afford food grains in the market
price and depends on FPS for their monthly food
grain supply.
A POS device which allow the beneficiaries to conduct
transaction in FPS through user authentication and
save the transfer details for the ration distributer.
•Suretyin transferof service to eligible beneficiaries,
as the device use biometric information to log in.
•Effective allocation and distribution of grains to each
FPS, as the distribution flow can be tracked down
from the transaction details saved in the device.
Setting up the service keys for single use purpose, avoid
multiple click issues and reduce confusions in user. And the
inbuilt billing system allows a hassle free process to generate
purchase bill.
Using biometric information to identify beneficiaries who are
eligible for the FPS service. This approch is invitable as the
government is already in the process of implementing UID
scheme - Aadhar card.
Integrating the device to weighing machine will enable
appropriate weights being assigned to the transaction as the
user has the provision to verify the data on both the devices.
Not all the beneficiaries of FPS are highly educated to read
out the texts. Incorporating image along with text in the
dial keys, allow beneficiaries to easily identify the keys and
relates to the data displayed on the screen.
