The City of Toronto is studying a series of transportation projects, initiatives and polices to support the vision of the recently completed Highland Creek Village Area Study and re-development of the Highland Creek Village area. The mobility needs of local residents, employees, businesses and all road users will be considered.
2015 Land Conservation and Tree Preservation Awards Fairfax County
A public ceremony was held in the Fairfax County Government Center board auditorium on January 29, 2016, to recognize the winners of the 2015 Land Conservation and Tree Preservation Awards. Organizations and individuals were acknowledged for demonstrating best practices in preserving the county’s soil and water resources and protecting trees during development projects. The annual awards program is sponsored by the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services in cooperation with the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District and the Fairfax Tree Commission.

Franklin Park Chesterbrook Neighborhood Project HighlightsFairfax County
This project included 3,000 linear feet of stormwater improvements that promote infiltration, improve water quality, and safely convey stormwater through the neighborhood to a stream.
Crook Branch at Mantua Elementary School Stream Restoration Community Meeting...Fairfax County
A section of Crook Branch will be restored to accomplish the following goals:
Stabilize stream
Reduce excess sediment from being transported downstream
Reduce excess nutrients from entering the waterway
Improve aesthetics
Reduce hazards (steep, eroding banks)
Reconnect stream to floodplain
Improve Riparian Buffers

Land trusts from Minnesota to New York are using their expertise in private, voluntary land conservation and stewardship to restore and enhance Great Lakes water quality. This workshop highlights specific efforts in Milwaukee area watersheds while offering perspective from other states. This presentation was given by Kimberly Gleffe, Executive Director, River Revitalization Foundation.
Andrew Struck, director of the Ozaukee County Planning and Parks Department, will lead an interactive presentation on the department’s fish passage program, which actively reconnects existing, high quality fish and wildlife habitat throughout the Milwaukee River Watershed and direct drainage to Lake Michigan. The workshop presenters will discuss concepts of aquatic connectivity, provide a comprehensive overview of a multi-million dollar watershed-wide approach to aquatic connectivity, and engage the audience in designing for options for fish passage using successful completed projects as case-studies. This presentation was given by Andrew Struck, Director, Ozaukee County Planning and Parks Department.

Greenwood Farm straddles Euclid Creek east branch, just below the Euclid bluestone waterfall. At the meeting, we will hike the east branch gorge in the area of the falls.
Greenwood Farm and the nearby Redstone Run Reserve are models for conserving escarpment run (lake-direct) ravines in Euclid and Richmond Heights.

The Kingston Greenline & Ulster County Trails Summit was made possible with funding from the Land Trust Alliance's Conservation Partnership Catalyst Grant Program. The Summit included a keynote presentation from Jeff Olson, author of The Third Mode and principal with Alta Planning + Design. Lindsay Zefting, planner and engineer with Alta Planning + Design presented the final report for the Kingston Point Rail Trail Feasibility Study. A panel comprising representatives from the Kingston Land Trust, Ulster County Planning, the Hudson River Valley Greenway and Parks & Trails NY discussed the emerging trail network in Ulster County.
The Blueprint Jordan River visioning process was completed in December of 2008. Close to 3,000 residents and stakeholder participated in drafting a public vision for the river.

21. Transition to a Greenway
• 1967 – 78: OPRHP purchased ~260 acres of the
corridor in the Towns of Portage and Leicester which
were added to Letchworth State Park and became Trail
#7 (includes Oakland Locks) and lands at the northern
park entrance.
• 1975: “Old Genesee Valley Canal Trail” was included
in the NYS Canal Recreation Development Program
prepared jointly by OPRHP and DOT as part of the
Statewide Recreation Planning Program.
22. • 1984: OPRHP purchased 118 acres from Penn Central
Corp., 10 miles of corridor in Monroe County, the first
segment of the “Old Genesee Valley Canal Trail”
• Mid 1980’s: DEC & FLTC proposed using
Environmental Quality Bond Act (EQBA) funds to
purchase the corridor from RG&E.
• 1990: NYPCA, now Parks & Trails New York
(PTNY), and RG&E initiated efforts to transform the
corridor into the Genesee Valley Greenway.
• 1991: PTNY formed a Steering Committee of
interested stakeholders and held town meetings along
the corridor.
23. • Local Committees in individual towns/villages
obtained leases from RG&E to build Greenway
trail.
• 1992: First two miles of GVG opened in the
Village of Mt. Morris
• 1993: An additional three miles of GVG
opened in the Towns of Nunda and Portage
