While recently converting their electric distribution sources, PG&E included an initiative to convert their GIS data into a standalone ArcSchematics model. The schematics model was developed to support the engineering group as well as PG&E‘s DMS outage management system and was tailored to provide a geo-schematic representation following major roadways to enhance locating of key primary system features. Software was developed to allow daily GIS updates to feed the schematics model directly thus greatly reducing latency between the two systems. Maintenance of schematics consists of daily executed minor whitespace management edits ensuring ease of use.

In 2011, new design-build legislation was enacted, concurrent environmental review and procurement processes were completed, a project labor agreement was negotiated with the labor unions, and pre-construction activities commenced — all with an unprecedented level of transparency and community involvement. The client was producing 20 MMscf/d of natural gas but several new wells increased production potential by 4 MMscf/d. However, the existing gas gathering and compression system could not accommodate the full increase. GCC performed an audit of the system and modeled pipeline and compressor equipment. This identified modifications to allow production of the new capacity of 30 MMscf/d along with additional future capacity. For a natural gas gathering project in Central Europe, PSE equipped a single-stage Ariel JGC/2 compressor with an all-electric eHydroCOM capacity control system to ensure a constant feed pressure into the pipeline despite fluctuating suction pressures from varying numbers of connected gas wells. The electric control system provides stepless operation for customized gas extraction at high efficiency with minimal space requirements and energy savings compared to conventional bypass solutions.
Managing Massive Updates - Using GIS to Fuel Gas Compliance
NIPSCO was required to undergo massive data updates to their GIS to meet new gas regulation. A series of projects allowed for the rectification of all gas transmission assets and the manual update of system-wide records to accommodate the requirements. SSP technology was implemented to allow for outsourced updates to be replayed into the versioned production GIS while maintaining fulltime day-to-day editing. This provided maximum flexibility while minimizing downtime and any performance impact.
