• Teams have 2m 30s to score as
many points as they can
• “Trash Trek” Challenge has  
12 missions with different scores
• You don’t have to do all missions: 
pick a few to start with!

In the FLL TRASH TREK Project,
your team is expected to:
• Choose an area relating to rubbish to
investigate further.
• Remember the three ‘Rs’: Reduce,
Reuse, Recycle.
• Create an innovative solution for
improving way in which we handle this.
• Share their solution with others.

Coaching
• The role of a Coach or Mentor is to
inspire, guide and support the team.
• The children should do the work: team
members should be the ones who decide
on strategy, robot design and research!
• Adults may teach the team new skills,  
ask questions to get team members
thinking, and remind them of the FLL rules.

Champions have to be in top 50% of Robot Game rankings,
based on each team’s highest score from 3 games.

Champions go on to compete in UK Final.  
After that possibly the European and then World Final!

DON’T PANIC!
• Only attempting one mission is an
achievement.
• READ THE CHALLENGE

Field setup:
• The mat will be set up as shown in
challenge document.
• You cannot remove missions.
• You cannot remove things that are
dropped (except automatically).
• You cannot reset missions.

Touching things in the field:
• If you touch the robot in the field:
• You will get a penalty
• You must bring the robot straight
back to base.
• You cannot touch anything else in
the field – unless explicitly allowed
under the rules.

Controlling the robot:
• The robot must be fully
autonomous.
• You can only interfere with the
robot except when it is FULLY in
safety.
• You cannot use any devices
(bluetooth, etc.) to control it in the
field.

Using other equipment:
• You can use anything you like that
is manufactured by Lego.
• You cannot use anything at all in
the robot game (even in set up)
that is not made by Lego.
