PTC sponsored Team 74, Team C.H.A.O.S. from Holland, Michigan was with the winning alliance for the FIRST Robotics Competition and PTC sponsored Team 7013, Hot Wired from Portland, Oregon was the winning alliance captain for the FIRST Tech Challenge.

12,000 Students Bring Custom-Built Robots to Annual Robotics Championship to
Celebrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
NEEDHAM, Mass. ― May 15, 2014 ― PTC (Nasdaq: PTC) today extended congratulations to its
company-sponsored, award-winning teams at the FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of
Science and Technology) Championship in St. Louis, Mo., April 23-25, 2014. PTC sponsored
Team 74, Team C.H.A.O.S. from Holland, Michigan was with the winning alliance for the FIRST
Robotics Competition and PTC sponsored Team 7013, Hot Wired from Portland, Oregon was
the winning alliance captain for the FIRST Tech Challenge.
Developing tomorrow’s engineers, scientists and innovators is the vision that drives the FIRST
series of robotic events. The 2013-2014 FIRST season attracted over 350,000 students
representing 32,000 teams that built 28,000 robots with the help of 130,000 volunteers,
mentors and coaches. These teams participated across the globe in regional and district FIRST
Robotic Competitions, FIRST Tech Challenges and FIRST LEGO League competitions. The
programs culminate in an international robotics competition and celebration where teams win
recognition, gain self-confidence, develop people and life skills, make new friends, and perhaps
discover an unforeseen career path.

FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®) Championship – FRC combines sports excitement with the
rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams
are challenged to fundraise, design a brand, exercise teamwork, and build and program robots
to perform tasks against competitors. In this year’s game, AERIAL ASSISTSM, FRC teams took to
the field, where competing Alliances scored points by throwing balls over a truss, catching balls,
and putting as many balls in goals as possible. PTC sponsored Team 74, Team C.H.A.O.S.,
Holland, Michigan, was part of the winning alliance that claimed the top spot in FRC
championship.
FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC®) World Championship – FTC students learn to think like engineers.
Teams build robots from a reusable kit of parts, develop strategies, document their progress,
and compete head to head. The object of this year’s game, named FTC® BLOCK PARTY!SM, was

2. to score more points than an opponent by placing plastic blocks into pendulum goals. Teams
were challenged to raise their team alliance flag up a flagpole, raise their robots off the ground
using a platform pull-up bar, and end the match with a balanced pendulum to earn extra points.
PTC sponsored Team 7013, Hot Wired from Portland, Oregon was part of the winning alliance
for the FIRST Tech Challenge.
At this year’s FIRST Championship, the PTC booth showcased how many FIRST teams used PTC
software to design, develop and build a robot while collaborating and communicating among
team members, coaches, mentors and sponsors. Teams worked with the same PTC software
used by leading manufacturing companies around the world. FIRST students had the
opportunity to compete in the PTC Design Award with the winner, Team 3486, Techno Warriors
Advanced from Brandon, WI, showing the most complete 3D robot design.
