AIRBUS A380
Who invented it?The A380 was designed and made by the European plane maker Airbus. The A380 made its first flight on 27 April 2005 from Toulouse, and made its first commercial flight on 25 October 2007 from Singapore to Sydney with Singapore Airlines. My dad has travelled on the A380 from Sydney to Singapore with Emirates airline.
Where was it invented? The Airbus company is based in Toulouse (France) but large parts where made in France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
How was it modified? The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine airplane. It is the largest passenger airliner in the world. The A380's upper deck extends along the entire length of the main body. This allows for a cabin with 50% more floor space than the next-largest airliner, the Boeing 747-400 and provides seating for 525 to 853 people depending on the amount of economy class seats used. The cabin has straight walls, designed to give the impression of increased spaciousness, combined with the advanced mood lighting system and noticeably quieter cabin, works to combat the effects of jetlag.
What choices and changes did they have to make? The idea of the A380 is to be able to carry as many people in a single trip, cutting down on the amount of fuel and staff to support the flight. They also tried to make it as quiet as possible to reduce noise pollution around airports. The designers had to decide on how big they could make it without making it too noisy, big and costly for people to use.Because of the size of the A380, U.S. airports have to make changes to accommodate the aircraft. This may includes widening runways and taxiways, or restructuring gate areas to accommodate the additional passengers. The A380 uses a double-decker air-gate to get people on and off the plane.
How does it work? The A380 works like other jet aircraft, with big engines forcing air out, pushing the aircraft along. The A380 needs 4 engines as it is very big.
