Josef Strauss on 18 December 1970; 47years ago (as Airbus Industries )
O Airbus Industries began as a consortium of European aviation firms formed to
compete with American companies such as Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, and
Lockheed.
O The Airbus A300 was to be the first aircraft to be developed, manufactured
and marketed by Airbus. By early 1967 the "A300" label began to be applied

O By 1979 the consortium had 256 orders for A300,and Airbus had launched a
more advanced aircraft, the A310,
6. MISSION
O For the purpose of strengthening European co-operation in the
field of aviation technology and thereby promoting economic
and technological progress in Europe, to take appropriate
measures for the joint development and production of an
Airbus."
7. AIRCRAFT A350 XWB
O The Airbus A350 XWB is a family of long-range, twin-engine wide-body jet
airliners developed by European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. The A350 is the
first Airbus aircraft with both fuselage and wing structures made primarily of
carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer. Its variants seat 280 to 366 passengers in
typical three-class seating layouts. The A350 is positioned to succeed the
A340, and compete with the Boeing 787 and 777
8. HISTORY
O The A350 was originally conceived in 2004 as a pairing of the A330's fuselage
with new aerodynamics features and engines.
O In 2006, Airbus redesigned the aircraft in response to criticism from several
major prospective customers and renamed it the A350 XWB (extra wide
body).
O The prototype A350 first flew on 14 June 2013 from Toulouse, France
O As of October 2017, Airbus had received 858 orders for A350s from 46
customers worldwide.
O The A350 received type certification from the European Aviation Safety
Agency (EASA) on 30 September 2014
O On 12 November 2014, the A350 received certification from the US Federal
Aviation Administration

mounted one above the other.
O For each pilot primary flight/navigation display, with an
adjacent on-board information system screen.
O Airbus says the cockpit design allows for future advances in
navigation technology to be placed on the displays plus gives
flexibility and capacity to upload new software and to combine
data from multiple sources and sensors for flight management
and aircraft systems control.
O A head-up display is also present in the cockpit.
