TEXTBOOK
ANALYSIS
)
What is Textbook
Analysis?
According to Permendikbud No 8 of 2016 the definition of textbooks is the
main learning source to achieve basic competencies and core competencies and
is declared feasible by the Ministry of Education and Culture to be used in
education units.
Function of textbook (According to Imran, 2014)
Textbook evaluation/analysis needs to be done for:
1. Improve the quality of the book
2.Keep up with the times
3.Find out the weaknesses of the textbook
 If the evaluation of the textbook is not carried out:
1. The contents of the textbox do not develop
2. The quality of the textbook is getting worse
3. The contents of the textbook are not in accordance with
the times
4. Do not know the shortcomings of the textbook
Checklist Method
 Checklist method is one of the informal methods of observation where the observer
has determined the behavioral indicators to be observed from the subject in one table.
 CHECKLIST METHOD
(DAOUD AND CELCE-MURCIA (1979)
Daoud and Celce-Murcia checklist for textbook evaluation consists of five aspects.
The first is subject matter, the second is vocabulary and structures, the third is
exercises, the fourth is illustrations, and the fifth is physical make-up. The total items
of the five aspects are 25.

which build up the learners’ repertoire
√
16 Do the exercises provide practice in different types of
written work (sentence completion, spelling and
dictation, guided composition)?
√

lessons and cumulatively test new material?
√
18 Do the exercises promote meaningful communication
by referring to realistic activities and situations?
√
