This video introduces an online course to help university teachers improve their ability to conduct classes in English. In the first week, participants will consider factors in switching to English, assess their own English level, and reflect on how to teach with less anxiety by viewing teaching as an opportunity. They will also choose a short teaching sequence to improve over the course of the MOOC and present in English by the end. The first week will require 3 to 5 hours to complete videos, documents, forums, and an evaluation activity, and participants are encouraged to introduce themselves to colleagues on the discussion forum.

In this first teaching week, we’d like to suggest that
you think about a number of key questions: on the
factors involved in taking the option to change over
to English and also on your own level of English, for
starters. Additionally, we’d like you to think about
how this need to change language that you’re now
considering can be carried out without too much
anxiety; also, how to look on this new situation as an
opportunity to improve your teaching. You’ll see that
the discourse of teaching is a space that is
sufficiently broad and diverse for you to feel
comfortable and at ease.

choose a short teaching sequence that you can
improve on throughout the whole course and
that, in the end, you’ll produce in English… far
better than you can right now, obviously.
