It decides which rules are satisfied by the facts, prioritizes them, and executes the rule with the highest
priority. There are two types of inference: forward chaining and backward chaining. Forward chaining
is reasoning from facts to the conclusion while backward chaining is from hypothesis to the facts that
support this hypothesis. Whether an inference engine performs forward chining or backward chaining
entirely depends on the design which in turn depends on the type of problem. Some of the systems that
do forward chaining are OPS5 and CLIPS. E MYCIN one of the most popular systems performs
backward chining. Some systems, ART and KEE, for example, offer both the techniques. Forward
chaining is best suited for prognosis, monitoring and control. Backward chaining is generally used for
diagnostic problems. E MYCIN deduces the list of possible culprit bacteria based on symptoms
provided by the physician. Inference engine operates in cycles, executing a group of tasks until certain
criteria causes that halt the execution. The tasks to be done repeatedly are conflict resolution, act,

Glory And Honor In The Iliad

Glory and Honor in Homer s Iliad
For many years, Greek culture based their social status on prominence and rank in their colony. This
prepotency over the culture is shown in the epic poem, The Iliad of Homer. Great vitality is exhibited
by the characters in the poem. The need for glory, honor, and eternal remembrance is mentioned
numerous times from beginning to end in this composition. Glory and honor comes with great
responsibility and wisdom. Homer presents this idea in various ways. This fortitude is passed
throughout The Iliad showing the foundation of dignified heroes and self glorification. This epic poem
eulogizes the acts of chivalry executed by the men during the Trojan War. My friends, quit yourselves
like brave men, and shun dishonour in one another s eyes amid the stress of the battle. They that shun
dishonour more often live than get killed, but they that fly save neither life nor name. ( Homer Book
5). Agamemnon, the son of Atreus, tells the soldiers that they are to be courageous in battle and their
good deeds will carry through with them until death, but that those who are glorious will seek death
long after the cowards and deceivers. Those that are loyal to their society will be brought to mind as
ideal and rewarded by the gods and their commonwealth. In The Iliad, Homer s description of a noble
hero is one that will have enough bravery to fight in battle. The desire the be godlike is voiced

The Song Walk This Way `` By The Rock Band Aerosmith And...
During the 1970s, Rock and Roll dominated the music culture and charts with some of the best hits
from bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and others, while at the same time early Hip Hop were
starting up with artists such as Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash. The genre stayed an underground
phenomenon throughout the 1970s and fairly unpopular with the white audience of Rock and Roll,
which held back its appearance in mainstream music until the mid 1980s. In this paper, I compare the
differences in the arrangements of the song Walk This Way by the rock band Aerosmith and a cover
done by the Hip Hop group Run D.M.C, and explore the music culture of the 1970s and 1980s which
influence the original song and its cover version. I argue that Run DMC s progressive crossover cover
of Walk This Way by Aerosmith took down the wall separating Rock and Roll and Hip Hop,
legitimizing the genre s acceptability and propelling it into popular mainstream music. The 1970s, also
known as the Me Decade , was a time of diversifying music. The Beatles had broken up, Jimi Hendrix
and Janis Joplin had died from drug overdose, Led Zeppelin was Britain s most popular group, The
Rolling Stones weren t active, and rock roll was branching out into various popular subgenres such as:
Country Rock, Glam Rock, Progressive Rock, Punk Rock, Soft Rock, and Hard Rock/Heavy Metal.
Hard rock and Heavy Metal were interchangeable terms during the time because of their similarity;

The Internet and Academic Dishonesty
Term paper mills are not a new development, and neither is dishonesty. However, the rise of the
internet into an information hivemind has made commiting academic dishonesty easier, faster, and
more clandestine than ever. In the case of higher education, the number of paper mills is rising at an
alarming rate. []
Most paper services fall under one of two categories: editing sites and paper mills. Editin sites seem
harmless from an academic standpoint: students can have their papers proofread at any time, with
quick turnovers in the case of looming deadlines. The students write their own papers and the editors
merely mark areas that need improvement and give general guidelines for grammar and stylistic
changes. Of course, most people would be unwilling to pay $6.95[1] for proofreading. It is more likely
that these sites heavily alter the essays they receive for editing , making them more of a co writer of
the paper rather than just a reader. Paper mills are the more common online paper service: they usually
keep many essays in stock with small excerpts available on their website. Buying a paper from these
websites is not unethical, and there are cases where using another student s work to find primary
sources and integrate such essay in one s own would be beneficial. In fact, most paper mill websites
usually include a disclaimer stating that all papers they sell must be used as a reference. The following
is an example disclaimer

Display Rules In Children
Emotions are essential to children s development and their expression is an important part of
developing relationships (Zeman Gerber, 1996). Gnepp and Hess (1986) recognised that emotional
expression can voluntarily controlled and Choy (2007) recognised that emotional display can be
inconsistent with real emotion. This leads to display rules, the intentional regulation of emotional
expression to circumvent perceived repercussions of genuine emotion (Gnepp and Hess, 1986). An
example of this is a child not throwing a tantrum when in public (Saarni, 1981). Understanding how
these display rules develop in children, and when they are used, is crucial to understanding how
humans socialise as well as how children understand their emotions (Gnepp and Hess, 1986). ... Show

Gnepp and Hess (1986) found that school children were markedly more likely to employ display rules
when they were told a story where the child had an audience. Zeman and Gerber (1996) found that
school aged children showed more emotional restraint when around their peers than when alone or
with family members. Other research has shown that the majority of children aged 3 11 will tell a
white lie when faced with a bad gift if there is an audience there (Talwar, Murphy Lee, 2007). Saarni
(1981) found that children as young as three could employ display rules in situations where they may
be punished. Similarly, Banerjee (1997) found that pre schoolers could understand when it was
appropriate to apply display rules to avoid punishment. All of this research identifies that context, such
as presence of an audience or potential for punishment, is a critical factor in determining when display

SpaceX And NASA Mars Mission: 5 Things You Didn t Know
Introduction
Plans to discover more about the space have been underway since the first trip to the space was made.
Currently, plans to inhabit and make a living from the planet Mars are exiting each and every ear.
Space scientists drawn from NASA and private space study organizations such as SpaceX have vowed
to make this a reality in the coming future. Not only are these people ambitious to visit the space and
mars, but also the moon. Well, Good luck to them! Hope the trips will be fun, free from calamities as
experienced in the previous aborted mission. Before mentioning the specifics and the interesting
things about these missions, it is prudent highlighting these organizations, their ... Show more content

With this said, the NASA SpaceX corporation in the Mars mission is intriguing. Having completed
various missions in the space separately, what are these space companies after? Here are the 5 things
you probably didn t know about the SpaceX and NASA Mars mission.
How Are People Going To Survive The Trip?
During this announcement which dazzled dozens, Musk provided few and limited details about the
possible life inside the spaceship. However, he mentioned that the trip, by a spaceship that ferries
people to Mars would be utmost fun with restaurants and Zero G games. This however, does not
provide concrete descriptions of how the spaceship passengers would pass time and mist important,
stay alive.
One of the biggest concerns is definitely the increased levels of radiation. The deep space contains
energized particles from deep space cosmic rays and solar flares which can potentially harm people
during the voyage.
Where Will The Colonist Live And How Will They Survive?
This is the second issue Musk highlighted lightly. He mentioned that the concern of SpaceX was to
provide an ample transportation system to Mars. Besides, the promo video from SpaceX ends right
after the colonists get to Mars. It is therefore unclear who will handle the responsibilities of creating
habitats and a self sustaining civilization in the red

Proinflammation Research Paper
Inflammation is significant as the causative path via which obesity predisposes women to pre
eclampsia. Abnormal adipokine production and infiltration of inflammatory cells portray adipose
tissue de function. Visceral fat produces more C reactive protein and inflammatory cytokines
compared to subcutaneous fat, furthermore it donates more to oxidative stress(114).Obesity and
insulin resistance are inflammatory conditions, portrayed by greater than before production of
proinflammatory cytokines besides of inflammatory signaling pathways activation (181).
Obesity is revealed to be a vital jeopardy factor for changes of metabolic and inflammatory parameters
during the course of pregnancy that influence adaptation. A great body of evidence taken throughout

In training there was a comment that was made that struck my heart. Ministry can t ever take the spot

not let my identity come from anything but Him. I can always continue to grow and I need to make
sure I don t let the fact that I am doing ministry replace personal time with God. I can only give my

How Did Queen Victoria Influence British Society
Victoria was the longest reigning British monarch and the figurehead of a vast empire. She oversaw
huge changes in British society and gave her name to an age. When Queen Victoria assumed the
British throne in 1837 at the tender age of 18, she became an associated symbol with the rapid changes
that the nation of Great Britain endured to be a powerful, industrial nation that boasted an empire that
stretched across the globe . She endured many challenges during her reign, however, proved that she
possessed great stability and remained a character of virtue , honour, prosperity and, tradition to lead a
powerful nation for nearly 64 years, for much of the nineteenth century an era of great social and
technological change . At birth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Political issues were her main interest over social issues, and she resisted technological change. Her
main political issue that she strived to amend was gaining political power for the British monarchy.
Without her knowledge, she led towards the transformation of the monarch s political role into a
traditional state. This meant that throughout the years of her reign, direct political power moved away
from the Queen. However, she was still able to exert a powerful influence over her ministers during
important political moments through her high levels of prestige, her determination to master her
knowledge of political affairs, but also her strong will and harsh sense of moral righteousness and self
discipline . Her high level of influence was especially demonstrated when she was able to successfully
mediate conflicts between the Commons and the Lords during the much debated passing of the Irish
Church Disestablishment Act of 1869 and the 1884 Reform Act. When she first became queen, there
were no clear means of the true political role of the crown let alone the permanence of the monarchy
itself. The aim of her rule was to cement the British monarchy into everyday British life. During her
early years of being queen, her political confidant was the then current British Prime Minister, Lord
Melbourne; however this role changed to her husband. Victoria was famous for her relationships with
the ever changing Prime Ministers during her time of rule which ranged from affectionate to cold. No
matter who was Prime Minister, she demanded to be informed of political matters even though she
had no political input, and necessitated all aspects of business and administrative details that occurred
in politics. Because her role did not exude copious amounts of power in the political affairs of Britain,
Queen Victoria principally engaged her role of the crown to include the monarchy

Improvement Of Technology And Its Use Has Been The...
Improvement of technology and its use has been the foundation for American economics. Although
such innovation does create jobs, customs, and cultures that contribute to the American lifestyle, it can
also create pollution that harms the environment and brings about environmental injustice. People
focus on outcome effects of a certain project. Whether its main goal is for economic gains, to help
improve the way American people live, or even if it is harming the ecosystem in any way, they will
intervene. However, what people don t pay attention to is the tool that is being used to accomplish
such goals that can produce complications as it relates to the environment and injustice that comes
with the utilization of technology. This creates a selective exposure mentality in the sense that if the
tool being used has been here before the person was born or even if the tool is used to support daily
activities within the American household and lifestyle, then in no way should it be harmful to humans
or the environment. There must be a different way in which American citizens can identify such
potential dangers so that disaster can be avoided. One approach is to have professionals in the related
field expose such technologies that people believe are helping them but instead are causing damage to
the environment. As a previous low voltage linemen with seven years of experience, alongside my

The Role Of Community Engagement And Outreach Librarians
A major challenge in public librarianship and especially in the role of the community engagement or
outreach librarian is relating to the populations you are trying to engage. Marissa Gehrke has a goal of
bringing in more Spanish speakers into the library. However, not being a native Spanish speaker has
proved difficult in reaching those communities, even though she has some level of Spanish speaking
ability (personal communication, September 30, 2017). According to the ALA, 78% of libraries report
that Spanish is the number one language to which they develop services for (2008). Although the ALA

Zimdars had to rely on volunteers to help her implement a summer program at the local elementary
school. This proved to be very difficult because she was working with varying schedules and people
who don t have a financial incentive to be there. As wonderful as volunteers can be, it can also make
programs more stressful for the librarians. Zimdars has since secured some grant funding to hire
temporary employees for the summer to help with the program next summer (personal communication
October 10, 2017). Another challenge of a community led librarian is that they needn t necessarily lbe
professional librarians. (Stevenson Domsy, 2016), Zimdars mentioned that oftentimes her role as
outreach librarian looks more like a social worker (personal communication, October 10, 2017).
Stevenson Domsy also note an ability to penetrate communities and work closely with vulnerable
groups takes precedence over professional qualifications. This opens the door for the hiring of social
workers and other professionals (or paraprofessionals) over librarians (2016). As community needs
change, the culture, roles, and skills of the librarian also changes. Several graduate students had
expressed apprehension about the direction libraries are moving towards in the way of community
engagement and outreach (Hawkins, October 7, 2017). This trend may deter certain

The Insanity Of The Ghost In Shakespeare s Hamlet
William Shakespeare created the well renowned playwright, Hamlet, which includes many ties to
religion and other foreign ideologies. One of these multiple ideologies is whether or not King Hamlet
s ghost is more of an christian ordeal or if he is just Prince Hamlet s lesser conscious pulling him into
the dark. Many discussions have been carried out over what the purpose of King Hamlet s ghost really
plays in Prince Hamlet s revenge and if he does fuel his anger for revenge or if he was just imagining
his dead father, later causing his insanity. The appearance of King Hamlet s ghost in Shakespeare s
Hamlet is no mere plot device. The supernatural being represents not only a catalyst for Hamlet s

ghost, the Catholic purgatorial spirit, and the popular graveyard spook created for an audience
prepared by theatrical tradition, by what Cardinal Newman called floating religious opinions . (Spigel
148) Spiegel is showing how Shakespeare intended for the ghost to disrupt represent the religious
views back then and not to represent the young mind of Prince Hamlet. Hamlet wasn t just imagining
his father giving him his evil, vengeful thoughts, the ghost was there in spirit. Sister Miriam Joseph
states that Hamlet, since he was of a follower of the lord that his power had him believe in god and his
higher power. Since Hamlet, she argues, is the rightful ruler, both morally and legally, he is invested
with God s authority. The revenge which the ghost commands is, therefore, not personal vengeance
but God s retributive justice. (Spiegel 149)

Executive Summary This paper reviews the mechanical behavior of geopolymers after exposing to
high temperatures. The review begins with a brief overview of geopolymers and examines the extant
literature on the mechanical behavior of geopolymers after exposing to high temperatures by artificial
intelligent techniques. The final and compressive strength of geopolymers is also discussed. Finally,
this review examines studies on genetic programming as a technique of modeling the performance of
materials and in particular, geopolymers. This paper focuses on the general and specific aspects of
genetic programming on geopolymers, and summarizes its importance. Further, this review features
genetic programming as applicable to geopolymers as a method of predicting the effect of temperature
on their mechanical behavior. From the review, it emerges that geopolymers that resist the action of
loads that tend to reduce their sizes, exhibit high compressive strength.

EBIT in 2001 was $527,366,000. So the EBIT is $137,366,000. Then this is taxed at 40% so the EAT
is $82,420,000. So by taking on more debt the EAT diminishes so the earnings per share will drop
dramatically. Dividends affect next years earnings as they are taken out of the EAT.
e. Debt Interest Coverage Rations and Financial Flexibility
The debt interest coverage ratio is EBIT/Debt Interest. The interest on the debt is $390 million as
calculated above. The EBIT in 2001 is $527,366,000. So debt coverage ratio is 527,366/390,000=1.35

f. Outstanding Shares
Issuing 3 billion dollars of new debt to pay dividends should not have any effect on the voting control
of the Wrigley family. Using that money to buy back shares will have an effect on the voting right of
the family. When shares are repurchased they are put in the company treasury and are no longer

The Use Of Body Cameras In The Shooting Of Michael Brown
In the stir of the police shooting of Michael Brown in August 2014, as well as the protests in
Ferguson, Missouri and around the country, there has been a serious issue with the use of body
cameras to promote the interactions with the police and the civilians. Body worn cameras have
received positive appraisal from the NAACP Legal Defense Education Fund,3 and the American Civil
Liberties Union (ACLU). The latter has stated that their widespread use has the potential to be a win
win, helping protect the public against police misconduct, and at the same time helping protect police
against false accusations of abuse. In 2013, the Police Executive Research Forum sent surveys to 500
of the 12,501 police departments in the U.S and of the 254 who completed the survey only 63 of the
departments reported using body worn cameras. However, now law enforcement agencies in the
country are now rapidly adopting the cameras.
In December 2014, President Obama proposed the Body Cameras Partnership Program, which aims to
invest $75 million through a 50% investment matching arrangement with states to cover video storage
and equipment expenses, with the goal of underwriting the costs of 50,000 of body cameras being
worn. The program is a three year $263 million enterprise to help strengthen the community policing
and the funding plan is part of President Obama s proposed budget.

These measures are global, i.e. they measure the results of whole organization rather than parts of the
organization. While traditional methods of OM discuss cross functional aspects, TOC approach
emphasizes on measuring and improving system wide results and identifying factors that restrict the
performance of whole system. It recognizes the effect of variability dependency on the performance of

obey a general order are subject to punishment by the court martial, the U.S Army private was indeed
subject to such punishment. Though luckily, to his benefit, he was only ordered to write a 2000 word
RBI and report for duty 30 minutes early. However had his wife not accidently knocked over his alarm
clock, causing all of it s setting to go astray, he would not have violated Article 86 and would not have
been subject to punishment by the court martial. But unfortunately his wife did knock over his alarm
clock causing all of it s settings to go astray and he did violate article 86. If you violate article
86(much like this U.S Army Private) you too will be subject to the punishment of a court martial, and
may also have to write a 2000 RBI and have to report for duty 30 minutes early for 2 weeks. If

The Ancient Inventions Of The Future
The Ancient inventions of the future Socrates was one of the greatest philosophers of the ancient
world. His teachings inspired young philosophers to go and explore the world. In addition, His
Knowledge even influenced boundless minds like Plato, who help make gigantic pushes in geometry.
Or Aristotle, who mad giant leaps in astronomy (also made a theory that the earth was round in about
384 B. C.). therefore, a new era of philosophy was inaugurated and the course of western civilization
was decisively shaped. Modern mathematics, Medicine, and cartography was all modernized during
this age of philosophy. Without the Greeks, present ideals and the way we live our life would not be
the same. So it is important that we know what the Greeks invented and their power over our
civilization.
First of all, the use the same form of democracy that we use in America. They decided that a dictator
would have too much control and power. So they got a cabinet of over 500 people for democratic
voting. They voted on taxes all the way up to executions. It worked a lot like our jury system, with
people randomly chosen to serve. As it was said by Scott J. Cooper; Demokratia, Greek for power of
the people, was born in Athens in the 7th century BC. As the city state s oligarchy exploited citizens
and created economic, political and social problems, Athenians were inspired by the successful, semi
democratic model Sparta had adopted. They turned to lawmaker Solon, who tried to help the

Textual Evidence Essay
One of the struggles I face with my students is getting them to use textual evidence in a meaningful
way. Another struggle I face with my students is getting them to analyze the textual evidence they use,
rather than summarizing. For the Regents, students are expected to complete a Text Analysis Response
(TAR) and an Argumentative essay. Each year, I find that my students struggle more with the TAR.
Part of this is due to the fact, that what they are required to do is extremely complex: identify a central
idea in the text and analyze how the author s use of one writing strategy develops this central idea
(nysedregents). The other reason is because they include shallow analysis in their responses. For this
assignment, I will design two worksheets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

can even be expected to write. On this worksheet, students are to select a quote that uses a writing
strategy, identify the writing strategy, explain how the writing strategy is used, highlight significant
words from their quote, and expand on their quote by analyzing the key words they highlighted. I am
differentiating this worksheet, by also including a quote bank for my low preforming students. I ll be

choosing the most appropriate evidence. I also want to present this worksheet in a I do, We do, You do

Persuasive Essay On Unfair Prejudice
People have been unfairly judged since the beginnings of time, everyday someone out there is being
bullied, unfairly harmed because of their race, or unprivileged because of their race or cultural
background. Whether they were the victims or the bullies everyone has at one point experienced some
form of inconsiderate judgement in their lives. It is no surprise that people have been unfairly judged
for hundreds of years now. There has been many cases of racism all over the world. From slavery and
the racial segregation of African Americans in the U.S, to the Holocaust and persecution of jews in
WWII, people all over the world have been discriminated for their appearance. Historically the
practice of unfair prejudice has been around for centuries. Although discrimination has significantly
decreased over time it is still something we see in today s society and many people have to deal with
the disadvantages it brings. Currently, the U.S is the most discriminative nation towards other cultural
minorities and it has even come to a point where policemen in the U.S have been questioned for their
actions. This is shown in many cases when people of color have been killed without evidence of
hostile behavior towards the authorities and this has stirred up a lot of controversy over the past few
years. Many diverse ethnic groups have evidently been conflicted by unfair prejudice across the U.S.
A group that has been conflicted by this are citizens of Middle Eastern descent, after the

Geographic Disparity In Medical Care
Humans are one of the most vulnerable species that walk the earth. Their simple bodies are susceptible
to almost every type of bacterial or viral disease which could cause death in a matter of hours. From
the earliest nomadic tribes of humans, there has been a need for medical care. Whether the need for
healing comes from man s simple mistakes or from man s rivalry with nature, medicine and simple
bandages are some parts of the necessity to heal. The one advantage that humans have over all other
animal apexes in the world is man s ability to create. This ability gave humans modern technology and
medical care that is capable of curing almost every disease or disability known. Although this
technology is known, it is not always accessible to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Impact of Weather and Climate on Health in New...
Weather can affect human health in a variety of ways. For New Zealand, some of the specific health
issues that are linked to weather and climate include melanoma skin cancer, weather sensitive
rheumatism, asthma, Seasonal Affective Disorder, and stress in farmers caused by weather extremes.
Several studies have been done in New Zealand investigating the link between particular health
problems and the weather. There are limitations to such studies, including the obstacle of trying to

Because melanoma is a serious health concern in New Zealand, research has been done exploring the
malignancy. One specific study looked at the occurrence of melanoma throughout New Zealand. They
found that the highest rates generally occurred on the North Island, while there tended to be lower
rates on the South Island. Although the rates of melanoma didn t correspond precisely with the hours
of sunlight that an area has, there was some relation between these two. Southland, the southernmost
region of New Zealand, has the least sunshine and was found to have the lowest rate of melanoma.
The study also found that the rate of melanoma in men was significantly higher than that in women,
and that the rate of melanoma increased with age.1
In response to the health issues associated with exposure to the sun, New Zealand has developed
programs to educate people on the risks of solar radiation and the precautions that can be taken. One
such program is called SunSmart, and its goal is to promote sun safety behaviors in New Zealand.
Some statistics are posted on their website regarding the effects of skin cancer in the country. These

close to 260 people die from the disease, and it costs the New Zealand health system around 33
million dollars.3 Though New Zealand may be highly susceptible to sun related skin cancer, it is still

Analysis Of The Book The Wizard Of Oz
The Wizard of OZomoness There is no place like home, Which could not be more true for the most of
us, is a famous quote from The Wizard Of OZ, a movie about a girl who finds herself in a world
different from hers, wishing to return to her farm in Kansas. Along the way, she discovers many things
about herself that she never thought she was capable of. Although her time in the Land of OZ was just
a dream, it sends powerful messages. Not only that there is no place like home, but that in our dreams
we realize who we are. The outside world never sees who we truly are or what makes us happy. We
feel a need to conform to society and act how other people act, so that we don t stand out. Why
wouldn t people express themselves for who they truly are? Bird Clarkson, a man on a mission, seems
to ask a similar question. Clarkson, a faculty member in the Communication and ARTS Department at
Central Michigan University, entered a piece in the ArtPrize 2016 competition in Grand Rapids (MI)
named The Wizard of Ozomoness. It is an interpretive dance play of sorts that is meant to get kids or
people alike to express themselves and let them know that their dreams can come true. The piece we
chose was the backdrop of the Emerald City that is meant for this play and we evaluated how its
appearance and representation of a dream world further emphasized the meaning of the piece. We

is a salesman who sells bone density scanners. Eventually he figured out that nobody wanted to buy it
because it is a luxury device in the medical business. Sometime in the beginning of the movie, there is
a scene where we see Chris Gardner approaching and trying to talk to Mr.Twistle. We see a long shot
of them both which shows us that they both are dressed in suits, which means that they both might be
office workers. The long shot then drifts and became a mid shot. The director could have purposely
done that to show that Mr.Twistle is in a hurry and has no time to speak with Chris. Chris Gardner and
Mr.Twistle got in the same cab. While they are in the same taxi together, we see that Chris is talking to
Mr.Twistle but the close up of Mr.Twistle s face shows that he s not interested in what Chris is saying.
This is because Twistle is just playing with a Rubik s cube. We then see an over the shoulder shot
which shows that it could mean that Chris is desperately wanting to talk to Mr.Twistle. Mr.Twistle
then says to Chris I m sorry, this thing is impossible. The extreme close up of Chris s face shows that
he is determined to do whatever it takes to talk to Mr.Twistle . Again, in the taxi part of the scene we
are only really shown mid shots and close

I Watched It Die By Teresa Sandoval
She watched it die.
At the top of her apartment complex, above families and lovers, perched a figure on the ledge of the
rooftop. It stood above layers of humanity in that complex, liveliness indicated by the lights shining
through the different curtains and blinds covering most of the windows of the complex. The figure
stepped closer to the edge, its head turned to Teresa Sandoval. The silhouette reminded her of a
woman: the harsh wind pulled back its hair and a sheet cascaded down the building.
The smell of red wine and smoke stung her eyes. Teresa stood underneath the one working streetlight
on the entire street: all the other lights flickered. As the figure moved closer to the edge, the lights
flickered even more. The buzzing grew louder. Teresa s cheeks were red from the alcohol she had
downed only fifteen minutes earlier and the cold wind slapping against her cheeks. She leaned against
the pole, her burning eyes still fixed on the shadow as it halted right up to the ledge. She glanced
quickly at the pavement in front of her then right up to the figure. The moon shone brightly behind the
figure, long black hair illuminated. As it walked closer, the lights behind the windows at the feet of the
figure were killed. She felt like she was at a shootout with an unknown enemy. She pretended the
sweat slicking her neck was from the hot desert air, that her eyes were stinging from the sand flying to
her face. Teresa scratched her wrist, a habit of hers when nerves consume

All tracking of Comerford carried out by the federal agents could have been completed using visual
surveillance from public areas without The Chum, making his claim of privacy invalid. Comerford
claims that the evidence seized from his car and home was the fruit of an unreasonable search, and
could not be held against him in court. However, Comerford is really only arguing against efficiency
of the law enforcement since the same tracking results are achievable through visual surveillance. In
United States v. Knotts, Justice Rehnquist states, Insofar as respondent s complaint appears to be
simply that scientific devices such as the beeper enabled the police to be more effective in detecting

The Issue Of Sex Education
2 out of 10 girls in the U.S. will get pregnant by the age of 20 (Tsai). Teen pregnancies and STI s in
teens are very common. Teenagers in schools across the US are at risk of getting pregnant. They may
even have a sexually transmitted disease and not know it. Many teenagers and even some adults do
not know a lot about sexual health. That is because schools are not giving out some of the most
important information to their students in sex education classes. All public schools should require that
sex education teaches more than only about abstinence and STI s. First, schools need to make sure that
the information being taught in sex education is medically correct. Many teenagers will go through
sex education, but it is a different experience for all of them because of lack of standardized curricula
at the federal, state, and sometimes district level (Hamilton). As of right now, sex education is mostly
based on the importance of abstinence and the types of sexually transmitted infections. Although
schools are trying to promote no sex in teens, that does not mean that teens are not in sexual
relationships. Teens who are engaging in sexual actions need to know about safe sex because that
exists although people say it does not. According to the National Conference of State Legislature, 38
States do not require mandated sex education and another 41 do not require sex education to be
medically correct (Marinelli). Most sex education programs do not teach true facts because

The planning for Year 3 Literacy follows the National Primary Literacy Framework. Within my setting
I have prior discussions with the class teachers on what the planned activity is and how I am going to
support the children to achieve the learning objective. All support staff are given plans for the
day/week on certain curriculum subjects that they will be supporting. This will contain the aim outline

The Effect Of Automatic Processes Interfering With...
Whether your mom is telling you a list of chores to do while you are watching your favorite TV show
or studying for an exam in a noisy room, these are common occurrences that may be affecting you in
ways you don t realize. What people may not know is how these instances could cause hindrances
when processing information; this is an underlying problem and has been known as interference.
When you have attention on more than one thing you may be experiencing interference and this can
inhibit cognitive processes. The effects of automatic processes interfering with controlled processes
have been known to have been tested through something called a Stroop experiment. The
revolutionary study by, Stroop (1935) used 5 different colors; purple, brown, green, blue, and red in a
color word naming task. Subjects had to say the color of the word while it was printed in different
color ink. For example, the word blue would be written in the color red. They first did this using the
colored words and then repeated the process with the words printed in black. They found that the
colored word condition suggested a 2.3s longer reaction time than the black word condition. This is
due to the inference of automatic word reading in the color word condition. Previous research also
suggests that there can be interference with the use of the symbol of an arrow or the written words
right and left in an experiment conducted by, Baldo, Shimamura, and Prinzmetal (1998). Their
findings suggested

Teenagers On After-school Jobs Essays
Almost every teenager wants a job, yet many people are against it. I believe teenagers should have
after school jobs for a number of reasons. First, having a son or a daughter that works can financially
help the parents. Also, the experience the teenager will acquire from after school jobs will help him or
her on future jobs. Finally, teenagers should have after school jobs because it will keep them away
from trouble. Parents should realize that as long as their son or daughter wants an after school job and
it does not affect his or her performance at school, they should let their child have one.
Usually, families that have financial problems have their teenage children go to work. Having an extra
family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By having a job a teenager can save up for college, to buy a car, to buy a stereo, etc. Teenagers feel
free when they have a job: they can spend their own money on whatever they want without feeling
guilty. In addition to helping his family, having a job at an early age can help for future jobs.
When many people apply for an important job, the employer will most likely choose the person who
has the most working experience. People who have had a job since their teenage years will know how
to deal with the stress and the work better than new people. They will be able to cope with job related
problems. This reason is very significant for teenagers who choose not to go to college, and their only
reason for getting employed is experience. Yet, the most important reason is that jobs keep teenagers
away from violence.
Jobs are very time consuming. If a teenager works and goes to school, he will probably not have time
to join a gang or get into fights. Nowadays more and more employees are getting drug tested at their
jobs. If a teenager likes his job or needs to work, he will not do drugs because he will get fired.
Furthermore, if a teenager receives a paycheck he will spend his earned money instead of stealing. A
job can lead a teenager to a better lifestyle and a healthier life.
I think teenagers should have after school jobs.

Effects Of Group Counseling For Adolescent Immigrants
Group Counseling for Adolescent Immigrants
One of the most important factors of immigration is, in most of the times, the difficult process of
acculturation. This process can be difficult as a person has to adopt the new culture and social
standards. Therefore, immigrants, in general, can experience many stressors, such as discrimination,
lack of financial resources, language inadequacy, disorientation, and many more. The result of all of
the effect of those stressors in a person is called Acculturative Stress (Cite Acculturative Stress,
Anxiety... Hovey, Joseph). In the case of adolescents, they are all living through a period in life that
involves psychological and physical development. During this stage, they are also finding their true
self and identity (Cite Group therapy on the edge).
Many families coming from another country, looking for better opportunities, often come with
adolescents, which means that they will also experience the difficult process of acculturation. Some of
the many factors that can affect adolescent immigrants are discrimination, due to their new social
status as immigrants and because they are part of a racial/ethnic minority, and insecurity based on lack
of language proficiency. One of the predictors of depressive symptoms is the experience of being
discriminated, which can contribute to a negative perception of the adolescent s ethnic group. Also,
adolescents lack of language skills can have a negative effect by decreasing their self esteem

York Water Company
PENNSYLVANIA PUBLIC UTILITY : COMMISSION :: v. : Docket No. R 2012 2336379 : YORK
WATER COMPANY : DIRECT TESTIMONY OF NON COMPANY PARTY LARRY L. WOLFE 1.
I, Larry L. Wolfe, affirm that I am a York Water Company ratepayer residing at 2698 Forest Road,
York, PA 17402. In this matter I represent myself as a private citizen without legal counsel. 2. In
Supplement No. 111 to Water Pa. P.U.C. No. 14 the York Water Company (the Company) has
requested an overall 17.2% increase in its base rates. The Company has also requested authority to
combine in part, the revenue requirement for the Company s wastewater operations with its water
operations. I assert that the proposed rate increase is exorbitant, unwarranted and should not be
granted. Further, I assert that the proposal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In short, the York Water Company is in a solid financial position. It has no basis to ask for yet another
rate increase of any amount and the Commission should respond to its request accordingly. (d)
According to a PUC spokesperson as reported in a recent York Sunday News editorial a utility
company spends about $1 million to request a rate hike. Given, the number of attorneys, consultants,
judges, commissioners, and other state employees involved, it seems likely that the cost to the
commonwealth to examine and rule on that rate hike request would equal, if not exceed $1 million. A
process which results in an expenditure of something on the order of $16 million in the years since
1999 for a single utility company cries out for remediation. Would it not be far more efficient,
equitable, and cost effective to authorize a pro forma semiannual or annual utility rate increase linked
to some economic index with a provision for special exceptions under strictly defined extenuating
circumstances? The present procedure makes for absurd theater. It is respectfully requested that the

Use Of Imagery In All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich...
Imagery is often used to allow the reader to develop a fuller understanding of the plot, characters, and
setting. In Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, he uses imagery to help the reader
understand the experience of war. Imagery allows the reader to comprehend Paul s thoughts and to
relate with the other characters. It makes the war realistic and provides a deeper understanding of the
war because it affects all of the senses. Remarque uses imagery to emphasize the themes of war and to
demonstrate the contrasts of war during battles and in the meantime. In the novel, imagery is used to
show the reader how tedious life in the trenches can be, but even though it may be torture to the
soldiers, they spend their time together to make the period between the battles less exasperating. When
the Paul and his comrades are waiting after one of the battles, he begins to describe how they kill lice
because it gives them entertainment when he says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diction in the passage exhibits the dying soldier s fear through the dramatic word choice.
Remarque continues to emphasize the fear in the scene through the use of hyperboles and
personification. The soldier s fear is exaggerated because it is powerful enough to move Paul. Since
the soldier is frightened, it magnifies Paul s fear because he is displaced and is unsure how to return to
his trench. After the gurgling ceases, the tone becomes less tense because it is clear that the man is
dying and would not be a threat. Paul realizes that he is the part of the cause of the suffering and feels
guilty. The image creates tension in the mood and fully conveys Paul s concern and anxiety while he
sees this dying man. Yet, Paul still feels a need to help the man because he notices that the man s eyes
are communicating that he wants to live. Remarque s description of the man s helpless plea
emphasizes the horrors of war and the fear of

Groupe Ariel Sa Case Analysis Essay
Groupe Ariel Sa Case Analysis Groupe Ariel S.A: Parity Conditions and Cross Border Valuation
Abstract This case discusses Cross Border valuation of projects. This kind of analysis is common for
companies that are operating in many countries. Groupe Ariel is one such company that is considering
investing in a project in its own subsidiary in Mexico. The company manufactures and sells printers,
copiers and other document production equipment in many countries. As far as, expansion into new
markets is concerned, company is very slow in taking initiatives as compared to its competitors owing
to the recent recession. But the management of the company believes that better durability and lower
after sales service costs of their products enable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The present value of all these cash inflows and outflows can be calculated by discounting them at
12.19%. This rate is calculated by assuming that the purchasing power parity holds in this scenario.
The company can do the feasibility analysis by looking at both from the subsidiary s and parent s
perspective by assuming that the purchasing power parity holds. Hence, this rate can be regarded as
opportunity cost of investment because it is the second best alternative for the company for investment
purposes. So, the NPV can be calculated by taking the sum of present values of all the cash flows.
This NPV comes out to be 3,703,176 Pesos. This NPV value can be converted into Euros by dividing
the NPV value by the spot exchange rate. The spot exchange rate is 15.99 MXN/EURO. Hence, by
dividing 3,703,176 by 15.99, NPV value in terms of Euro comes out to be 231,593 Euros. Compute
the NPV in €s by translating future peso cash flows into €s at expected future spot rates. Note Ariel s €
hurdle rate for this asset class was 8%. Annual inflation rates are expected to be 7% in Mexico and 3%
in France. NPV calculated for this scenario comes out to be 231,507 Euros. The first thing required for
calculating NPV in Euro is the forward premium. It is calculated by adding 1 to the inflation rates of
France and Mexico respectively, and then by taking their ratio. This ratio comes out to be 1.0388. This
ratio is then

Deployment Issues
There are many issues that may arise for a soldier and his family before and after a deployment.
Several articles hit on the issue of challenges in marriage between soldiers and their spouses due to
deployments. Some of these issues include mental issues with the soldier, the spouse and children.
In an article entitled Gone To War: Have Deployments Increased Divorces? the authors stated that
among families from post 9/11, those who experienced a post 9/11 deployment of 12 months has a
28% higher divorce rate after 3 years of marriage. (Hosek and Negrusa) 97% of all soldiers and
spouse divorces occurred after the soldier returned from deployment. The risk is increased by more
cumulative months of deployment and hostile environments

Old Spice Narrative
I cried on the day of my Kindergarten graduation, when my mother got a new job, when my bedroom
was painted a different color, and when I started middle school.
I guess I ve never really been a fan of change.
So when the morning of my brother s college move in day came around, I was already uneasy.
I woke up to various sounds coming from my brother s room and attempted to escape reality through
sleep. That lasted about 30 seconds before I was drafted to help him finish his incredibly last minute
packing. After loading up the van with precariously balanced boxes, we climbed in and set off for
ASU.
By the time we got to the menacing Tempe campus, hundreds of students were filling up the entrance.
All of their families seemed similar to mine, with younger siblings in tow. But what seemed similar in
numbers was different in enthusiasm. The youngsters tagging along all had ... Show more content on

While I love my brother, our relationship was never peaceful. In the twelve years I had lived with him,
we d bickered constantly. Why was I so scared to let him go 15 minutes away?
As we continued inside to where all of the promotional gifts were being handed out, I pondered this.
While my mother and brother argued about how many samples of Old Spice deodorant we could take
before it became impolite, I realized my issue with my brother leaving.
Before this moment, I was never on my own. I had someone who could help me get ahead in math or
tell me which classes were worth taking. And while I didn t always like that, it made me feel safe. I
didn t have to worry about taking risks, because someone had already set a precedent for me. How
could I be certain of my own accomplishments? And more importantly, what would I do when left to
my own devices?
Right as we entered my brother s dorm, it hit me: I was walking through the tightrope of life with a
safety net below me, and I had no idea how to keep going when it was taken

  • 4. Glory And Honor In The Iliad Haley Vinson English 271 December 5, 2017 Glory and Honor in Homer s Iliad For many years, Greek culture based their social status on prominence and rank in their colony. This prepotency over the culture is shown in the epic poem, The Iliad of Homer. Great vitality is exhibited by the characters in the poem. The need for glory, honor, and eternal remembrance is mentioned numerous times from beginning to end in this composition. Glory and honor comes with great responsibility and wisdom. Homer presents this idea in various ways. This fortitude is passed throughout The Iliad showing the foundation of dignified heroes and self glorification. This epic poem eulogizes the acts of chivalry executed by the men during the Trojan War. My friends, quit yourselves like brave men, and shun dishonour in one another s eyes amid the stress of the battle. They that shun dishonour more often live than get killed, but they that fly save neither life nor name. ( Homer Book 5). Agamemnon, the son of Atreus, tells the soldiers that they are to be courageous in battle and their good deeds will carry through with them until death, but that those who are glorious will seek death long after the cowards and deceivers. Those that are loyal to their society will be brought to mind as ideal and rewarded by the gods and their commonwealth. In The Iliad, Homer s description of a noble hero is one that will have enough bravery to fight in battle. The desire the be godlike is voiced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the 1970s, Rock and Roll dominated the music culture and charts with some of the best hits from bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, and others, while at the same time early Hip Hop were starting up with artists such as Kool Herc and Grandmaster Flash. The genre stayed an underground phenomenon throughout the 1970s and fairly unpopular with the white audience of Rock and Roll, which held back its appearance in mainstream music until the mid 1980s. In this paper, I compare the differences in the arrangements of the song Walk This Way by the rock band Aerosmith and a cover done by the Hip Hop group Run D.M.C, and explore the music culture of the 1970s and 1980s which influence the original song and its cover version. I argue that Run DMC s progressive crossover cover of Walk This Way by Aerosmith took down the wall separating Rock and Roll and Hip Hop, legitimizing the genre s acceptability and propelling it into popular mainstream music. The 1970s, also known as the Me Decade , was a time of diversifying music. The Beatles had broken up, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin had died from drug overdose, Led Zeppelin was Britain s most popular group, The Rolling Stones weren t active, and rock roll was branching out into various popular subgenres such as: Country Rock, Glam Rock, Progressive Rock, Punk Rock, Soft Rock, and Hard Rock/Heavy Metal. However, the rise of the internet into an information hivemind has made commiting academic dishonesty easier, faster, and more clandestine than ever. In the case of higher education, the number of paper mills is rising at an alarming rate. [] Most paper services fall under one of two categories: editing sites and paper mills. Editin sites seem harmless from an academic standpoint: students can have their papers proofread at any time, with quick turnovers in the case of looming deadlines. The students write their own papers and the editors merely mark areas that need improvement and give general guidelines for grammar and stylistic changes. Of course, most people would be unwilling to pay $6.95[1] for proofreading. It is more likely that these sites heavily alter the essays they receive for editing , making them more of a co writer of the paper rather than just a reader. Paper mills are the more common online paper service: they usually keep many essays in stock with small excerpts available on their website. Buying a paper from these websites is not unethical, and there are cases where using another student s work to find primary sources and integrate such essay in one s own would be beneficial. In fact, most paper mill websites usually include a disclaimer stating that all papers they sell must be used as a reference. • 7. Display Rules In Children Emotions are essential to children s development and their expression is an important part of developing relationships (Zeman Gerber, 1996). Gnepp and Hess (1986) recognised that emotional expression can voluntarily controlled and Choy (2007) recognised that emotional display can be inconsistent with real emotion. This leads to display rules, the intentional regulation of emotional expression to circumvent perceived repercussions of genuine emotion (Gnepp and Hess, 1986). An example of this is a child not throwing a tantrum when in public (Saarni, 1981). Understanding how these display rules develop in children, and when they are used, is crucial to understanding how humans socialise as well as how children understand their emotions (Gnepp and Hess, 1986). ... Other research has shown that the majority of children aged 3 11 will tell a white lie when faced with a bad gift if there is an audience there (Talwar, Murphy Lee, 2007). Saarni (1981) found that children as young as three could employ display rules in situations where they may be punished. Similarly, Banerjee (1997) found that pre schoolers could understand when it was appropriate to apply display rules to avoid punishment. Her main political issue that she strived to amend was gaining political power for the British monarchy. This meant that throughout the years of her reign, direct political power moved away from the Queen. However, she was still able to exert a powerful influence over her ministers during important political moments through her high levels of prestige, her determination to master her knowledge of political affairs, but also her strong will and harsh sense of moral righteousness and self discipline . Her high level of influence was especially demonstrated when she was able to successfully mediate conflicts between the Commons and the Lords during the much debated passing of the Irish Church Disestablishment Act of 1869 and the 1884 Reform Act. When she first became queen, there were no clear means of the true political role of the crown let alone the permanence of the monarchy itself. The aim of her rule was to cement the British monarchy into everyday British life. During her early years of being queen, her political confidant was the then current British Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne; however this role changed to her husband. Victoria was famous for her relationships with the ever changing Prime Ministers during her time of rule which ranged from affectionate to cold. No matter who was Prime Minister, she demanded to be informed of political matters even though she had no political input, and necessitated all aspects of business and administrative details that occurred in politics. Although such innovation does create jobs, customs, and cultures that contribute to the American lifestyle, it can also create pollution that harms the environment and brings about environmental injustice. Whether its main goal is for economic gains, to help improve the way American people live, or even if it is harming the ecosystem in any way, they will intervene. However, what people don t pay attention to is the tool that is being used to accomplish such goals that can produce complications as it relates to the environment and injustice that comes with the utilization of technology. This creates a selective exposure mentality in the sense that if the tool being used has been here before the person was born or even if the tool is used to support daily activities within the American household and lifestyle, then in no way should it be harmful to humans or the environment. There must be a different way in which American citizens can identify such potential dangers so that disaster can be avoided. His teachings inspired young philosophers to go and explore the world. In addition, His Knowledge even influenced boundless minds like Plato, who help make gigantic pushes in geometry. Or Aristotle, who mad giant leaps in astronomy (also made a theory that the earth was round in about 384 B. C.). therefore, a new era of philosophy was inaugurated and the course of western civilization was decisively shaped. Modern mathematics, Medicine, and cartography was all modernized during this age of philosophy. Without the Greeks, present ideals and the way we live our life would not be the same. So it is important that we know what the Greeks invented and their power over our civilization. First of all, the use the same form of democracy that we use in America. They decided that a dictator would have too much control and power. So they got a cabinet of over 500 people for democratic voting. They voted on taxes all the way up to executions. It worked a lot like our jury system, with people randomly chosen to serve. As it was said by Scott J. Cooper; Demokratia, Greek for power of the people, was born in Athens in the 7th century BC. As the city state s oligarchy exploited citizens and created economic, political and social problems, Athenians were inspired by the successful, semi democratic model Sparta had adopted. • 27. Textual Evidence Essay One of the struggles I face with my students is getting them to use textual evidence in a meaningful way. Another struggle I face with my students is getting them to analyze the textual evidence they use, rather than summarizing. For the Regents, students are expected to complete a Text Analysis Response (TAR) and an Argumentative essay. Each year, I find that my students struggle more with the TAR. Part of this is due to the fact, that what they are required to do is extremely complex: identify a central idea in the text and analyze how the author s use of one writing strategy develops this central idea (nysedregents). The other reason is because they include shallow analysis in their responses. For this assignment, I will design two worksheets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On this worksheet, students are to select a quote that uses a writing strategy, identify the writing strategy, explain how the writing strategy is used, highlight significant words from their quote, and expand on their quote by analyzing the key words they highlighted. I am differentiating this worksheet, by also including a quote bank for my low preforming students. Persuasive Essay On Unfair Prejudice People have been unfairly judged since the beginnings of time, everyday someone out there is being bullied, unfairly harmed because of their race, or unprivileged because of their race or cultural background. Whether they were the victims or the bullies everyone has at one point experienced some form of inconsiderate judgement in their lives. It is no surprise that people have been unfairly judged for hundreds of years now. There has been many cases of racism all over the world. From slavery and the racial segregation of African Americans in the U.S, to the Holocaust and persecution of jews in WWII, people all over the world have been discriminated for their appearance. Historically the practice of unfair prejudice has been around for centuries. Although discrimination has significantly decreased over time it is still something we see in today s society and many people have to deal with the disadvantages it brings. Currently, the U.S is the most discriminative nation towards other cultural minorities and it has even come to a point where policemen in the U.S have been questioned for their actions. This is shown in many cases when people of color have been killed without evidence of hostile behavior towards the authorities and this has stirred up a lot of controversy over the past few years. Although the rates of melanoma didn t correspond precisely with the hours of sunlight that an area has, there was some relation between these two. Not only that there is no place like home, but that in our dreams we realize who we are. The outside world never sees who we truly are or what makes us happy. It stood above layers of humanity in that complex, liveliness indicated by the lights shining through the different curtains and blinds covering most of the windows of the complex. The figure stepped closer to the edge, its head turned to Teresa Sandoval. The silhouette reminded her of a woman: the harsh wind pulled back its hair and a sheet cascaded down the building. Many teenagers and even some adults do not know a lot about sexual health. That is because schools are not giving out some of the most important information to their students in sex education classes. All public schools should require that sex education teaches more than only about abstinence and STI s. First, schools need to make sure that the information being taught in sex education is medically correct. Many teenagers will go through sex education, but it is a different experience for all of them because of lack of standardized curricula at the federal, state, and sometimes district level (Hamilton). As of right now, sex education is mostly based on the importance of abstinence and the types of sexually transmitted infections. Although schools are trying to promote no sex in teens, that does not mean that teens are not in sexual relationships. Teens who are engaging in sexual actions need to know about safe sex because that exists although people say it does not. What people may not know is how these instances could cause hindrances when processing information; this is an underlying problem and has been known as interference. When you have attention on more than one thing you may be experiencing interference and this can inhibit cognitive processes. The effects of automatic processes interfering with controlled processes have been known to have been tested through something called a Stroop experiment. The revolutionary study by, Stroop (1935) used 5 different colors; purple, brown, green, blue, and red in a color word naming task. Subjects had to say the color of the word while it was printed in different color ink. For example, the word blue would be written in the color red. They first did this using the colored words and then repeated the process with the words printed in black. They found that the colored word condition suggested a 2.3s longer reaction time than the black word condition. This is due to the inference of automatic word reading in the color word condition. Previous research also suggests that there can be interference with the use of the symbol of an arrow or the written words right and left in an experiment conducted by, Baldo, Shimamura, and Prinzmetal (1998). This process can be difficult as a person has to adopt the new culture and social standards. Therefore, immigrants, in general, can experience many stressors, such as discrimination, lack of financial resources, language inadequacy, disorientation, and many more. The result of all of the effect of those stressors in a person is called Acculturative Stress (Cite Acculturative Stress, Anxiety... Hovey, Joseph). In the case of adolescents, they are all living through a period in life that involves psychological and physical development. During this stage, they are also finding their true self and identity (Cite Group therapy on the edge). Many families coming from another country, looking for better opportunities, often come with adolescents, which means that they will also experience the difficult process of acculturation. Some of the many factors that can affect adolescent immigrants are discrimination, due to their new social status as immigrants and because they are part of a racial/ethnic minority, and insecurity based on lack of language proficiency. One of the predictors of depressive symptoms is the experience of being discriminated, which can contribute to a negative perception of the adolescent s ethnic group. Also, adolescents lack of language skills can have a negative effect by decreasing their self esteem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. York Water Company PENNSYLVANIA PUBLIC UTILITY : COMMISSION :: v. : Docket No. R 2012 2336379 : YORK WATER COMPANY : DIRECT TESTIMONY OF NON COMPANY PARTY LARRY L. WOLFE 1. I, Larry L. Wolfe, affirm that I am a York Water Company ratepayer residing at 2698 Forest Road, York, PA 17402. In this matter I represent myself as a private citizen without legal counsel. 2. In Supplement No. 111 to Water Pa. P.U.C. No. 14 the York Water Company (the Company) has requested an overall 17.2% increase in its base rates. The Company has also requested authority to combine in part, the revenue requirement for the Company s wastewater operations with its water operations. I assert that the proposed rate increase is exorbitant, unwarranted and should not be granted. Further, I assert that the proposal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In short, the York Water Company is in a solid financial position. It has no basis to ask for yet another rate increase of any amount and the Commission should respond to its request accordingly. (d) According to a PUC spokesperson as reported in a recent York Sunday News editorial a utility company spends about $1 million to request a rate hike. Given, the number of attorneys, consultants, judges, commissioners, and other state employees involved, it seems likely that the cost to the commonwealth to examine and rule on that rate hike request would equal, if not exceed $1 million. A process which results in an expenditure of something on the order of $16 million in the years since 1999 for a single utility company cries out for remediation. Would it not be far more efficient, equitable, and cost effective to authorize a pro forma semiannual or annual utility rate increase linked to some economic index with a provision for special exceptions under strictly defined extenuating circumstances? The present procedure makes for absurd theater. It is respectfully requested that the Commission move ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Use Of Imagery In All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich... Imagery is often used to allow the reader to develop a fuller understanding of the plot, characters, and setting. In Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, he uses imagery to help the reader understand the experience of war. Imagery allows the reader to comprehend Paul s thoughts and to relate with the other characters. It makes the war realistic and provides a deeper understanding of the war because it affects all of the senses. Remarque uses imagery to emphasize the themes of war and to demonstrate the contrasts of war during battles and in the meantime. In the novel, imagery is used to show the reader how tedious life in the trenches can be, but even though it may be torture to the soldiers, they spend their time together to make the period between the battles less exasperating. When the Paul and his comrades are waiting after one of the battles, he begins to describe how they kill lice because it gives them entertainment when he says, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diction in the passage exhibits the dying soldier s fear through the dramatic word choice. Remarque continues to emphasize the fear in the scene through the use of hyperboles and personification. The soldier s fear is exaggerated because it is powerful enough to move Paul. Since the soldier is frightened, it magnifies Paul s fear because he is displaced and is unsure how to return to his trench. After the gurgling ceases, the tone becomes less tense because it is clear that the man is dying and would not be a threat. Paul realizes that he is the part of the cause of the suffering and feels guilty. The image creates tension in the mood and fully conveys Paul s concern and anxiety while he sees this dying man. Yet, Paul still feels a need to help the man because he notices that the man s eyes are communicating that he wants to live. Remarque s description of the man s helpless plea emphasizes the horrors of war and the fear of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The present value of all these cash inflows and outflows can be calculated by discounting them at 12.19%. This rate is calculated by assuming that the purchasing power parity holds in this scenario. The company can do the feasibility analysis by looking at both from the subsidiary s and parent s perspective by assuming that the purchasing power parity holds. Hence, this rate can be regarded as opportunity cost of investment because it is the second best alternative for the company for investment purposes. So, the NPV can be calculated by taking the sum of present values of all the cash flows. This NPV comes out to be 3,703,176 Pesos. This NPV value can be converted into Euros by dividing the NPV value by the spot exchange rate. The spot exchange rate is 15.99 MXN/EURO. Hence, by dividing 3,703,176 by 15.99, NPV value in terms of Euro comes out to be 231,593 Euros. Compute the NPV in €s by translating future peso cash flows into €s at expected future spot rates. • 52. Old Spice Narrative I cried on the day of my Kindergarten graduation, when my mother got a new job, when my bedroom was painted a different color, and when I started middle school. I guess I ve never really been a fan of change. So when the morning of my brother s college move in day came around, I was already uneasy. I woke up to various sounds coming from my brother s room and attempted to escape reality through sleep. That lasted about 30 seconds before I was drafted to help him finish his incredibly last minute packing. After loading up the van with precariously balanced boxes, we climbed in and set off for ASU. By the time we got to the menacing Tempe campus, hundreds of students were filling up the entrance. All of their families seemed similar to mine, with younger siblings in tow. But what seemed similar in numbers was different in enthusiasm. The youngsters tagging along all had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While I love my brother, our relationship was never peaceful. In the twelve years I had lived with him, we d bickered constantly. Why was I so scared to let him go 15 minutes away? As we continued inside to where all of the promotional gifts were being handed out, I pondered this. While my mother and brother argued about how many samples of Old Spice deodorant we could take before it became impolite, I realized my issue with my brother leaving. Before this moment, I was never on my own. I had someone who could help me get ahead in math or tell me which classes were worth taking. And while I didn t always like that, it made me feel safe. I didn t have to worry about taking risks, because someone had already set a precedent for me. How could I be certain of my own accomplishments? And more importantly, what would I do when left to my own devices? Right as we entered my brother s dorm, it hit me: I was walking through the tightrope of life with a safety net below me, and I had no idea how to keep going when it was taken ...
