Rhetorical
Analysis is…
Ask what is the
purpose or
problem? And what
is your proposal or
solution?
Have a point you want
to make about the
text, then provide
evidence from text to
support your
argument.
Thesis begins with
what you believe in a
text. Then take out
"I believe" and this
makes an effective
argument.
THESIS DRIVEN!!!!
Is this an effective
stance or not???
Effectiveness- Look at the
tone, is it appropriate for
the audience? Is it logical?
Is it providing a solution?
Does it provide sufficient
evidence?
You have found the purpose
and wrote your thesis, now
ask yourself:
Who does writer want to be
listening to this argument? Does
he do a good job of addressing
those people?
Remember audience
and who your writing
for!
Don't assume audience knows
what your talking about.
Assumptions make argument less
effective.
Now you have your stance
and tone but are you
addressing your audience
correctly?
Logos-use facts, statistics,
text should be logical.
Pathos-emotional
appeal.
Ethos-ethical
appeal, credibility of the
writer.
*A way to make your
argument more effective is to
use:
Use tone, audience, purpose, and
context all from text itself to show
why it's effective or ineffective to
support points!
