Journeys in becoming a Nurse By: Kerri Dowgiallo
As I look to nursing as a career, I see a career of respect, compassion, service, and flexibility. Each of these traits work compatibly with what I already hold to importance in my life, which includes, my faith, family, service, and well-being. I want a career that amplifies my traits and I see nursing as a perfect match. -Kerri Dowgiallo (Nursing School Application)
“Nurses - one of the few blessings of being ill.”-unknown
I’ve grown so fond of the Creighton values which encourage students to include family, service, and ethnic diversity into our professional lives in order to enhance our learning and our contribution to society. Having this, I could never imagine continuing my education where these values where not in place. I hope to continue to grow from incorporating Creighton’s mission in my life so that I may enhance my career experiences.-Kerri Dowgiallo (Nursing School Application)
“Nurses dispense comfort, compassion, and caring without even a prescription” -unknown

“When you are a nurse you know everyday you will touch a life or a life will touch yours”-Author unknown
"...the character of the nurse is as important as the knowledge they possess."~Carolyn Jarvis
“Be the change you wish to see in the world” -Ghandi
"Caring is the essence of nursing."~Madeline Leninger
In loving memory of Jenny Steinmann, a fellow Creighton nurse, a dear friend and an inspiration to all.
Jenny lost her battle with Ewing’s Sarcoma on November 4, 2009 but not without teaching so many around her how to truly love and care for other people. I know the influence Jenny has had on me will forever change my career. With every patient I encounter I hope to see them through the same compassionate eyes as Jenny.
As nurses we will experience many trials and triumphs, I encourage you all to not wallow with pity or get lost in the glory but to learn and grow from each experience.Take a piece of those patients that touch your heart in a special way and let them be an influence for a change of mind.
