Introduction
Cancer is an ailment caused by the unrestrained division of abnormal cells in the body. The cancer cells are malignant meaning they can spread from the origin to distant organs and tissues. The disease can be genetically hereditary hence can be crossed over from one generation to another. Some of the forms of cancer treatment include targeted therapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, precision medicine, surgery, immunotherapy, and stem cell transplant. Some of the common types of this disease include lung, liver, stomach, and bowel cancers.
Cancer is also called as malignancy which means abnormal cells growth. More than 100 types of cancer are found in this world today, including breast cancer (widely spread among women), skin cancer (found in the person of almost every age), lung cancer (common among smokers), colon cancer, lymphoma and prostate cancer. Each kind of cancer has varying symptoms. Cancer differs with respect to the cell it affects first. The uncontrollable division of cells harm the body and form lumps and the masses of tissues which are known as tumors. The tumor grows in size and sometimes even intervene the digestive system, circulatory system, excretory system and nervous system. In the case of leukemia, cancer inhibits the normal blood functioning which is caused due to the abnormal cell division into the blood stream. Cancer also causes the systems of the body to secrete hormones that alter the body functioning. Tumors that do not grow and remain limited to one spot are considered to slightly less harmful and benign. The sign of the more dangerous and malignant cells is:
1. The harmful cancerous cells move from one spot to another throughout the body using blood as a medium and invade the organs and the healthy tissues of the body.
2. These cells grow and divide rapidly, they make blood vessels of their own which are used by them in the process of feeding, called as angiogenesis.
Then comes a stage is known as metastasized in which the tumor spread successfully to the other parts of the body, penetrating into the healthy tissues of the body and damaging them badly. The process is known as metastasis. It cause ...

RX&YOU: A DIGITAL HEALTH SOLUTION DELIVERING BILLIONS IN VALUE
We are inventing the future of medication healthcare by combining five technologies to rank the efficacy of every regimen at genomic levels while simultaneously maximizing care quality and reducing costs by billions of dollars.
FOUR GLOBAL & MULTI BILLION $ PROBLEMS IN DIGITAL HEALTH:
1. MEDICATION NON-ADHERENCE – “Drugs don’t work in patients who don’t take them,” said US Surgeon General, and an est. 50% of patients don’t, costing an est. $535 billion in preventable medical expenses. According to WHO “increasing the effectiveness of adherence interventions may have a far greater impact on [population] health than any improvement in specific medical treatments.”
2. ADVERSE EVENTS – 180K patients die per year in the US from adverse medication events and interactions, making it the 4th leading cause of death. FDA, and soon 27 states, have begun requiring e-reporting of adverse events.
3. CARE COORDINATION – The average American sees 18 providers as an adult with older and sicker patients seeing an average of 28 with prescriptions from many pharmacies. Healthcare now requires a team; however, providers don’t have visibility to each other, much less what they’re prescribing and doing for their common patients.
4. PERSONALIZED MEDICINE - Comparative effectiveness research (CAR) is a Holy Grail of modern medicine – to learn which regimens are most efficacious, safest, and the best value, then to determine it more precisely based on patients’ genomic variants. Rx&You can do this and be a codex of the era of personalized medicine.
SOLUTION:
Our cloud platform ingests and collects streams of patient data, including from the IoT, transforms it into meaning, and acts. Patients receive alerts, in their preferred ways, when and how to take medications, while interactions are prevented via 100% screening, and they e-report adverse events in real-time. Providers receive team-wide reports and real-time alerts from AI rules and predictive analytics enabling them to intervene to prevent expensive medical consequences by getting the right info to who needs it most at the right times.

CRISPR-Cas9, a revolutionary gene-editing tool, holds immense potential to reshape medicine, agriculture, and our understanding of life. But like any powerful tool, it comes with ethical considerations.
Unveiling CRISPR: This naturally occurring bacterial defense system (crRNA & Cas9 protein) fights viruses. Scientists repurposed it for precise gene editing (correction, deletion, insertion) by targeting specific DNA sequences.
The Promise: CRISPR offers exciting possibilities:
Gene Therapy: Correcting genetic diseases like cystic fibrosis.
Agriculture: Engineering crops resistant to pests and harsh environments.
Research: Studying gene function to unlock new knowledge.
The Peril: Ethical concerns demand attention:
Off-target Effects: Unintended DNA edits can have unforeseen consequences.
Eugenics: Misusing CRISPR for designer babies raises social and ethical questions.
Equity: High costs could limit access to this potentially life-saving technology.
The Path Forward: Responsible development is crucial:
International Collaboration: Clear guidelines are needed for research and human trials.
Public Education: Open discussions ensure informed decisions about CRISPR.
Prioritize Safety and Ethics: Safety and ethical principles must be paramount.
CRISPR offers a powerful tool for a better future, but responsible development and addressing ethical concerns are essential. By prioritizing safety, fostering open dialogue, and ensuring equitable access, we can harness CRISPR's power for the benefit of all. (2998 characters)

With each study and trial, we step closer to a world where kidney disease is no longer a life sentence but a treatable condition, thanks to pioneers like Dr. David Greene.
Defecation
Normal defecation begins with movement in the left colon, moving stool toward the anus. When stool reaches the rectum, the distention causes relaxation of the internal sphincter and an awareness of the need to defecate. At the time of defecation, the external sphincter relaxes, and abdominal muscles contract, increasing intrarectal pressure and forcing the stool out
The Valsalva maneuver exerts pressure to expel faeces through a voluntary contraction of the abdominal muscles while maintaining forced expiration against a closed airway. Patients with cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, increased intracranial pressure, or a new surgical wound are at greater risk for cardiac dysrhythmias and elevated blood pressure with the Valsalva maneuver and need to avoid straining to pass the stool.
Normal defecation is painless, resulting in passage of soft, formed stool
CONSTIPATION
Constipation is a symptom, not a disease. Improper diet, reduced fluid intake, lack of exercise, and certain medications can cause constipation. For example, patients receiving opiates for pain after surgery often require a stool softener or laxative to prevent constipation. The signs of constipation include infrequent bowel movements (less than every 3 days), difficulty passing stools, excessive straining, inability to defecate at will, and hard feaces
IMPACTION
Fecal impaction results from unrelieved constipation. It is a collection of hardened feces wedged in the rectum that a person cannot expel. In cases of severe impaction the mass extends up into the sigmoid colon.
DIARRHEA
Diarrhea is an increase in the number of stools and the passage of liquid, unformed feces. It is associated with disorders affecting digestion, absorption, and secretion in the GI tract. Intestinal contents pass through the small and large intestine too quickly to allow for the usual absorption of fluid and nutrients. Irritation within the colon results in increased mucus secretion. As a result, feces become watery, and the patient is unable to control the urge to defecate. Normally an anal bag is safe and effective in long-term treatment of patients with fecal incontinence at home, in hospice, or in the hospital. Fecal incontinence is expensive and a potentially dangerous condition in terms of contamination and risk of skin ulceration
HEMORRHOIDS
Hemorrhoids are dilated, engorged veins in the lining of the rectum. They are either external or internal.
FLATULENCE
As gas accumulates in the lumen of the intestines, the bowel wall stretches and distends (flatulence). It is a common cause of abdominal fullness, pain, and cramping. Normally intestinal gas escapes through the mouth (belching) or the anus (passing of flatus)
FECAL INCONTINENCE
Fecal incontinence is the inability to control passage of feces and gas from the anus. Incontinence harms a patient’s body image

Source of Inspiration
Maryland Oncology Hematology was started in the late 90s
by Jon Minford, MD. It is a community-based practice
taking care of patients locally. The center had five full-time
oncologists at the time. Maryland Oncology Hematology’s
one of the goals is to provide cutting-edge treatment and
research to patients in its community, both for benign
hematology and oncology.
Our guiding principle is the
patient comes irst. Patient
care should be held to the
highest standard. If there’s
the care we cannot provide,
we try to ind that care for
that patient in the best place
possible. We consider ourselves
the quarterback for the patient.

13. Thus, in the past decade, the center has grown from five
physicians to 52 physicians, with 12 offices in Maryland.
Journey So Far
After finishing a fellowship at Michigan State University,
Dr. Mohit Narang moved to Arkansas and opened the first
cancer center in Batesville, before starting a group
purchasing organization for more than 100 oncologists.
From there, he moved to Maryland, where he’s been
practicing medicine ever since.
Before moving, Dr. Narang had a choice between coming to
Maryland, and moving to Boston and joining a practice
there. He and his family chose Maryland because they
enjoyed the lifestyle here, and they were happy with the
schools, but the practice was also a major factor. When he
met the other physicians there, Dr. Narang knew they were
driven by the patients. The goal of the practice was to
provide excellent patient care first, and that was a priority to
him
“The practice does feel like a family to me. I like to say I
have two marriages—my wife and this practice,” says Dr.
Narang.
Dr. Narang has been a top Baltimore physician in colon
cancer, prostate cancer, and hematology for the past four
years in a row. He has published more than a hundred
articles and has more than 70 active studies going on his
sites Dr. Narang is also a member of the American Society
of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology,
and the European Society of Medical Oncology, the
International Extranodal study group, Advisor CONNECT
Myeloma study group.
Core Values
Maryland Oncology Hematology’s guiding principle is the
patient comes first. Patient care should be held to the
highest standard.
“If there’s the care we cannot provide, we try to find that
care for that patient in the best place possible. We consider
ourselves the quarterback for the patient,” adds Dr. Narang.
Compassionate Care Services
For Maryland Oncology Hematology, patient comfort
comes first.
“Our patients aren’t a number, they’re an individual. We
provide care in a timely, punctual manner, for both cancer
patients and our patients with benign hematological
conditions,” says Dr. Narang.
“We can open many research studies in less than two
weeks. If a patient comes to us with a rare form of cancer or
has a rare mutation, we can start the research treatments in
no time. Elsewhere, they may have to travel across the
country, or even internationally. We can provide studies in
the office, close to home, which is a huge advantage for our
patients.”
He continues, “Although we are a cancer center, we also do
infusions for benign conditions for gastroenterology,
rheumatology, Neurology and Cardiology. So we’re a
composite of both an infusion center and a cancer center.”
Cutting-Edge Treatments
It’s important for the physicians at Maryland Oncology
Hematology, to stay up to date on cutting edge treatments.
“We’re a part of the US Oncology network, which gives us
access to additional resources,” said Dr. Narang “We’re
able to reach out to other physicians to get the best answers
for our patients.” As a community-based practice focused
on providing top-level care to patients locally, it’s important

and advancements, so that the patients are offered the best
care that they need.
Words of Wisdom
For the budding enthusiasts who aim to venture into the
healthcare sector, Dr. Narang suggests, “If you are planning
to venture into healthcare, you need to love this field. Please
do not join for commercial reasons. I think the key thing to
remember is healthcare is more than a vocation. You’re
with your patients through a crucial part of their life. You’re
with their families. That’s what’s important, and that needs
to be a driving factor.”
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead to 2023, Maryland Oncology Hematology’s
goal is to grow, especially geographically.
“We are also opening phase one study sites, which are not
always available to patients who cannot travel to a
university to receive those treatments. We are trying to open
CAR-T sites. We want to make care more accessible and
affordable where our patients already live.”

16. ematology, the branch of medicine that focuses
Hon studying blood and blood-related disorders,
plays a pivotal role in modern healthcare. As
medical science advances, our understanding of hematology
becomes increasingly critical in diagnosing, treating, and
preventing various diseases.
In this article let’s delve into the multifaceted aspects of
hematology, examining its significance, recent
advancements, and the evolving landscape of its
applications in contemporary medicine.
Understanding Hematology
At its core, hematology encompasses the study of blood and
its components, including red and white blood cells,
platelets, and plasma. The discipline goes beyond
identification and classification; it explores the intricate
mechanisms governing blood function and its role in
maintaining overall health. Hematologists, armed with
advanced diagnostic tools, delve into the microscopic realm
to unravel the complexities of blood-related disorders,
ranging from anemia to leukemia.
Hematology in Disease Detection
One of the primary contributions of hematology to modern
medicine lies in its diagnostic capabilities. Blood tests have
become indispensable tools for identifying many
conditions, from routine check-ups to critical illnesses.
Hematological factors such as complete blood count (CBC)
and blood smears provide valuable insights into an
individual’s overall health.
For instance, red blood cell count alterations, hemoglobin
levels, or platelet counts can be early indicators of various
diseases. A low red blood cell count may signal anemia,
while abnormal white blood cells may suggest infections or
autoimmune disorders. By scrutinizing these microscopic
elements, hematologists can diagnose and initiate treatment
promptly, often preventing the progression of diseases to
advanced stages.

can now be diagnosed with greater precision, enabling
healthcare professionals to offer targeted therapies and
personalized treatment plans.
Molecular hematology also extends its reach to the realm of
hematologic malignancies. Identifying genetic mutations
associated with conditions like myelodysplastic syndromes
(MDS) and lymphomas has paved the way for novel
therapeutic approaches, including targeted therapies and
immunotherapies. This precision medicine approach
positively impacts outcomes and reduces side effects
compared to conventional treatments.
Blood Transfusion Medicine
Hematology’s influence extends to the critical domain of
blood transfusion medicine, ensuring the safety and efficacy
of blood transfusions. Blood transfusions are integral in
various medical interventions, including surgeries, trauma
care, and treatments for certain medical conditions.
Working in tandem with blood banks, hematologists
meticulously screen donated blood for infectious agents and
compatibility, minimizing the risk of transfusion-related
complications.
In addition to traditional blood transfusions, advancements
in hematology have led to the development of therapies
such as stem cell transplantation. This innovative approach
holds immense potential for treating various blood
disorders, including leukemia and lymphoma.
Hematopoietic stem cells, capable of differentiating into
different blood cell types, offer a lifeline for patients facing
otherwise limited treatment options.
Challenges and Future Directions
While hematology continues to make significant strides,
challenges persist. Disorders such as sickle cell anemia and
rare blood cancers present ongoing hurdles that demand
focused research efforts and innovative therapeutic
interventions. The field is also facing the task of adapting to
the changing healthcare environment, including integrating
artificial intelligence and machine learning in diagnostics
and treatment decision-making.
As we look to the future, collaborations between

increasingly vital. The interdisciplinary approach will
facilitate a more comprehensive understanding of blood
disorders and foster the development of targeted therapies.
Moreover, ongoing research in stem cell biology and
regenerative medicine holds the promise of groundbreaking
treatments that could revolutionize the management of
various hematologic conditions.
Conclusion
In conclusion, hematology is a cornerstone in modern
medicine, driving advancements in diagnostics, treatment
strategies, and our overall understanding of blood-related
disorders. From cancer diagnosis to blood transfusion
safety, the contributions of hematologists are invaluable in
enhancing patient outcomes and shaping the healthcare
landscape. As technology progresses, hematology’s role
will undoubtedly expand, reaffirming its status as a critical
player in the ongoing pursuit of medical excellence.

25. ediatric hematology, the specialized branch of
Pmedicine focused on blood disorders in children,
presents a distinct set of challenges and
considerations. Understanding and managing blood-related
conditions in young patients require a nuanced approach
that factors in the unique aspects of pediatric physiology,
development, and emotional well-being.
In this article, we delve into the intricacies of pediatric
hematology, exploring the challenges healthcare
professionals face and the strides made in ensuring optimal
care for young patients.
Pediatric Blood Disorders
Blood disorders in children encompass a broad spectrum of
conditions, ranging from common ones like anemia to rare
genetic disorders such as hemophilia and thalassemia.
Diagnosing and treating these disorders in pediatric patients
require a specialized skill set, considering the physiological
differences between children and adults. Pediatric
hematologists, equipped with expertise in both hematology
and pediatrics, play a pivotal role in addressing these
unique challenges.
Diagnostic Dilemmas
Diagnosing blood disorders in children poses distinctive
challenges due to the variability in normal blood values at
different stages of development. For instance, a lower red
blood cell count in a child may not necessarily indicate
23 | Nov 2023 www.insightscare.com
26. anemia but could be within the normal range for their age.
Pediatric hematologists employ age-specific reference
ranges and carefully consider developmental factors to
accurately diagnose and differentiate between benign
variations and potential disorders.
Communication and Emotional Considerations
Caring for pediatric patients involves not only addressing
the physical aspects of their conditions but also navigating
the emotional and psychological impact on the child and
their family. Effective communication is paramount in
pediatric hematology, requiring healthcare professionals to
convey complex information in a manner that is age-
appropriate and sensitive to the child’s developmental stage.
Pediatric hematologists often collaborate with child life
specialists and psychologists to create a supportive
environment, easing the anxieties associated with medical
procedures and chronic illnesses. Building trust with young
patients and their families is essential for successful
management and adherence to treatment plans.
Unique Treatment Approaches
Treatment modalities in pediatric hematology must be
tailored to the specific needs of children, considering
factors such as growth, development, and potential long-
term effects. Medication dosages, for instance, need to be
carefully calculated based on a child’s weight and age.
Furthermore, the choice of treatment may be influenced by
the potential impact on the child’s quality of life, growth,
and development.
In the case of hematologic malignancies, pediatric oncology
and hematology collaborate closely to provide
comprehensive care. The treatment of childhood cancers
often involves multi-disciplinary teams, including surgeons,
radiation oncologists, and nurses, working together to
ensure the best possible outcomes for young patients.
Innovations in Pediatric Hematology
Advancements in pediatric hematology have significantly
improved the outlook for young patients facing blood
disorders. Precision medicine, with its focus on tailored
therapies based on genetic and molecular profiles, holds
promise for more effective and less invasive treatments.
Research in gene therapy and targeted therapies specifically
designed for pediatric blood disorders is underway, offering
hope for improved outcomes and reduced side effects.
Education and Advocacy
Addressing the unique challenges in pediatric hematology
extends beyond the clinic and hospital walls. Educational
initiatives aimed at parents, caregivers, and schools
contribute to early detection and effective management of
blood disorders in children. Increased awareness fosters a
supportive community that understands the specific needs
of pediatric patients and promotes a holistic approach to
their care.
Additionally, advocacy for pediatric hematology research
and funding is crucial for driving innovation and improving
the standard of care. By raising awareness at the policy
level, stakeholders can ensure that resources are allocated to
advance research, enhance diagnostic capabilities, and
develop targeted therapies specifically tailored for young
patients.
Advancing Psychosocial Support
Recognizing the emotional toll of blood disorders on young
patients, there is a growing emphasis on enhancing
psychosocial support services. Pediatric hematologists are
increasingly integrating mental health professionals into
their teams to provide counseling and support to both
children and their families. This holistic approach
acknowledges the importance of mental well-being
alongside medical treatment, fostering resilience and coping
mechanisms in young patients facing the challenges of
blood disorders.
Conclusion
Pediatric hematology stands at the intersection of medical
expertise, compassion, and innovation. Navigating the
unique challenges presented by blood disorders in children
requires a comprehensive understanding of both
hematology and pediatrics. As advancements continue to
shape the landscape of pediatric healthcare, the
collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals,
researchers, and advocates are essential for ensuring that
young patients receive the specialized care they need. By
addressing the complexities of pediatric hematology,
including psychosocial support, we can pave the way for
brighter and healthier futures for children facing blood-
related challenges.
