The rough cut of the opening sequence was difficult to edit due to the large number of shots to choose from across different locations. Choosing the right shots involved considering how they looked and flowed together to set the genre and feel. The use of YouTube provided additional ideas, many of which were incorporated. The sound changed slightly throughout to make some clips scarier or add to the sequence. Clips were frequently changed or removed to keep them short and not reveal the genre too easily. Some of the best shots included the Ouija board, which was an important research-backed inclusion for the horror genre. Improvements for the future would be finding locations to film inside, including more upside down crosses, and working better as a
5 ROOKIE MISTAKES you should ABSOLUTELY not makeFloown
We’re all human. And unfortunately that means that every now and then you forget to turn on your brain. Especially when you run a startup there’s the occasional gaffe that in retrospect seems absolutely embarrassing. HOW COULD WE BE SO STUPID?
For this one we had to dig quite deep into our memory. Since we’re running such a tight ship we could only muster up 5 rookie mistakes…
Nah, not even Team Floown is perfect. But as Barack Obama said: “You try to figure out how to be in the moment, make the best decision you can, know that you’re going to get a bunch of them right, but a bunch of times you’re also not going to get it exactly the way you want it.”
Meaning, don’t fret too long over all the small mistakes. You can have a bad morning, a bad afternoon, but when you keep focused and positive you might write the most genius code, design the most beautiful logo, or make the best decision in the evening. Just because you kept at it, and let loose the negativity of what was before.
Our rookie mistakes hopefully make you laugh. Put a smile on your face. And when you run an into a similar situation, hopefully you won’t make that same mistake. But more importantly, always remember to keep on moving. After five mistakes, the sixth thing you do might be the best thing you’ll ever do.

2005 feels like yesterday, but a lot has changed since then. More than you might think. And a lot faster too. That's why we've made this overview of how technology has shaped our lives and attitudes since '05. Take this trip down memory lane with us, bask in the nostalgia and make sure you're ready for whatever 2025 has to offer.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Indian economy is classified into different sectors to simplify the analysis and understanding of economic activities. Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2. Overview
This rough cut was quite difficult to do as we had to pick the right shots to go one after each other out of a
lot of shots. This meant including shots from every place we had been for example the abandoned
building, the ballerina box, the setup of the symbol etc. I believe one of the hardest parts of this was
choosing the right shots, this is because when choosing the right shots you also have to take into account
how it looks so it looks like a real opening sequence. This meant that we had to remove and add a lot of
shots as talked about in my review of our opening sequence mid-way through, it was very hard but i feel
that we chose the right shots, music, effects etc to get across our genre and get the best feel possible to our
work. I believe that the use of youtube massively helped us. We had lots of new ideas some of which were
not used however most were, including the ouija board idea which i have already written blogs on. Which
was a great idea as it not only added to our opening sequence but showed we had done research before as
it was a very popular choice of shot in the horror genre.
3. Sound
The change in sound throughout, the sound throughout our work changed a bit as we needed it to either make the clips
scarier or add to the opening sequence. The sound throughout was mainly the ballerina box playing however there was
another sound like the sound of the piece on the ouija board as it dragged at the end. Which made our work end on a very
good note as the suspense carried from the start to the end. So the sound changed a bit but not as much as the clips.
4. Clips
The clip choice were changing frequently as we either thought the clip did not add to our opening sequence. We made it so
our clips were short, snappy and did not prolong for that long as we wanted the audience to get a brief idea and did not want
to give away our opening sequence genre that easy. We added clips of the ouija board, the reshoot of the symbol and
ballerina box, Molly's Den photos, double exposure and titles. All of this together gave the best feel possible for our opening
sequence as it came out to a very good standard as shown in a recent blog showing the opening sequence.
5. Best shots
I believe that some of the best shots were to do with the Ouija board as they looked amazing. As talked about in another blog
i had done research into the Ouija board and found the hype about it too hard to not include, as for around 6 months the
Ouija board was something that everyone was trying out. it also backed up the genre of the film as the board is known to be a
key part of the horror and satanic genre as talked about before. I believe that the shot at the end with me hovering over the
'Goodbye' gave a great end to the suspense as it was very creepy and came out of nowhere. I think one of the shots which
wasn't as good was the ones of the bloody handprints on the wall and also the shot of the abandoned building as they were
not the best of shots and did not connote enough about our work and i think were too long in our final cut. I just wish we
could have had the chance to go inside the abandoned buildings as the shots would have been phenomenal and would have
added to the opening sequence massively.
6. Improvements
I think next time that i would have done a lot more to our opening sequence, i think that next time i would have found better
buildings that were abandoned which we could have gone in because the ones we did find were all shut with no way in
meaning we could only take photos and clips from outside. I think we would also have included upside down crosses if we
did it again as they connote satanic signs and give a better understanding of what genre our work is. I think we would have
also included more music other than the ballerina box and the Ouija board but that wasn't really a key issue just a thought.
But i think the main thing we would’ve done better would be finding new shots and experimenting with other shots like the
upside down cross. I also think we should’ve worked better as a team as i usually ended up in me and Bailey doing most of
the editing and it became very difficult so we needed all the help we could get but our group didn’t really work well together.
