1. Convocation task evaluation
What went well?
Personally, I think that the actual filming of my piece went well, I believe this
because wewere able to use a lot of different shot types within our piece.
Using different shot types, I felt was effective becauseit meant that it gavethe
film variety and someshots worked better for what we were trying to achieve.
For example, when we were filming walking through the main doors and up to
the door that would havebeen used as our office door, we decided that a close
up of my feet would be best in this instance, as well as also having a long shot
of myself walking and a mid-shotfrom behind. Having this variety I feel, made
it more interesting to watch, rather than simply justa long shot of myself
walking down the hallway. I also think that the shot/ reverseshotworked well
as we managed to keep to the 180 degree rule which I feel, looked really
effective when watching it back as it helped to fully convey the convocation
that we were trying to portray.
What didn’t go well?
Personally, I don’tfeel as though my editing went as well as I would haveliked
it to in some respects, in someinstances it looks very sharp however, in some
cases I would have liked to havechanged certain bits. For example, one of my
clips carries on longer than I would haveliked it to and now I have watched
that back I can see that. Ithas some excess time that does not actually need to
be in the clip. This tells me that, I should have clipped this clip more than I did
to make it more fluid.
What would you changeif you could go back and startagain?
If I could start my film again, firstly, to contextualise my piece more, I would
have the actors dressed in costume. For example, office attire. Secondly, I
would like to add music and sound effects to my piece as I feel it would have
looked slightly less basic and possibly add tension to parts of the film that
could have been tense in areas. For example, walking down the hallway, here,
would have been a good opportunity to possibly add sometense music to the
piece to create a tenser atmosphere. Walking down the hallway into the
interview roomhere, may also have potentially been a good opportunity to
add sound effects like a loud heartbeat..
2. What have you learnt for next time?
Next time, I would like to experiment more with using different effects. I have
also learnt for next time to plan where I am going to film my film as I feel that
we could havepotentially done this in a quieter area wherethere was slightly
less disruption. The organisation of the classroomthatwe filmed in could have
possibly been laid out slightly differently as we had trouble with the lighting
due to a window however, wehad already started filming beforerealising it
would be a problem when the camera was facing one of the actors sitting in
frontof the window. Therefore, wecould not close the blind as we had already
started filming with the blind up, so could only close its slightly which did effect
the lighting. Ideally, weshould have changed the layout of the classroomso
that the table was not in front of the window.
