Introduction
In this task I am going to research and identify film
studios renown for producing thriller films. I am going
to give a brief overview of each studio I research and
give examples of their recent successes. By the end
of the research I will explain what studio I will want to
distribute my film.
Hammer Film Productions
Founded in 1943, Hammer film productions is a film
production company based in the UK.
Best known for its series of gothic ‘Hammer Horror’ films
in the mid 1950’s. Such as ‘Dracula’ and ‘The Curse of
Frankenstein’
Specializing in Sci-Fi, Horror, Film Noir and Thrillers.
Had a partnership with Warner Bros studio.
Recent Successes (Hammer
Film)
‘The Resident’ 2011 Thriller
Director: Antti Jokienen

Worldwide box office: $3,069,729
‘The Woman in Black’ 2012 Horror Thriller

Paramount Pictures
Founded in 1912 and based in the U.S. in Hollywood
it is the fourth oldest existing film studio.
Ranked as one of the largest film studios (top
grossing).
Distributes into a vast genres of films including
thriller.
Recent Successes
(Paramount)

‘Super 8’ 2011 Sci-fi Thriller

Lionsgate Entertainment

distribution company in North America and the sixth most
profitable film studio.

Horror’s, Thrillers and Action films.
Recent Successes
(Lionsgate)
‘Saw VI’ 2009 Horror Thriller
Director: Kevin Greutert
U.S. produced
Worldwide box office: $68.2 Million
‘American Psycho’ 2000 Thriller
Director: Mary Harron
U.S. Produced
Worldwide box office: $34,266,546
Conclusion
After the research I have gathered on three different
studios, I have chosen to have my film distributed by
Lionsgate Entertainment. My reasoning behind this is
because they specialize in Horror and Thriller which is
perfect for my film. Seeing as they are an independent
studio, they may be more inclined to accept my
application as a independent film maker rather than a
bigger studio like Paramount. This will also mean that I
would be enabled a bit more creative control over my film
seeing as they aren’t a huge company such as paramount
which may take over control of the production of the film.
Conclusion (Continued)
. Funding also wouldn’t be an issue seeing as Lionsgate
is the sixth most profitable company in North America. If
my film was to be distributed by Lionsgate, it would reach
a huge audience and would be widely distributed. Despite
the fact that they are an Independent studio, they are
widely established with a big audience, so my film would
also reach this audience. Because of all these
advantages and the disadvantages that the other studios
had I have chosen Lionsgate as the perfect studio for my
film.
