FILM
DISTRIBUTION
BY LEWIS TAYLOR
WHAT IS IT?
Film distribution is the process in which a film is made
available to be viewed by an audience, and can be viewed via
cinema, television, or by DVD or blue-ray etc. It can also be
paired with a film promotion if it is for commercial use.
When a film is first produced then it is shown in cinemas as a
feature film to show audiences. However in present day, lots
are just shown as paid advertisements before another film
has been shown. These can also be known as trailers.
Film distribution also involves getting legal rights to show
the film, marketing and releasing it, making and distributing
DVD’s to stores etc.

WHO IS MOST DOMINANT?
In the year 2013, this is what film distributors were the most
dominant in the UK and Ireland:
WHAT TYPES OF FILM
DISTRIBUTORS ARE THERE?
There are two types of film distributors, one being the major
studios that have many offices all around the globe, and the
other being independent film distributors that have to sell
their films to different distributors in each country or
territory, due to them not having as many offices and being
based in a small amount of places.
Some examples of major distributors are 20th Century Fox,
Walt Disney, and Warner Bros.
Some examples of independent distributors are Lionsgate,
eOne Films, StudioCanal, and Vertigo Films.
