Fig mosaic virus is a segmented, negative sense, single stranded RNA virus from the genus Emaravirus and family Bunyaviradae. It was first described in 1933 as the causal agent of fig mosaic disease, which causes mosaic spots on leaves and fruits, reduced yield, and defoliation. The disease is transmitted by the eriophyid mite vector and has been observed in several countries. Management strategies include using resistant varieties, controlling mites with horticultural oils, and never planting infected material.
