The walking element of Shifting
Lines uses a small web application,
which runs on Android and iOS
phones (and Linux).
This new multimedia poetry collection by Mona Arshi is inspired
by and recorded at the stunning scenery of Cley Wildlife Reserve.
Arshi draws on the ancient Arabic poetry form of ghazal, combined
with cutting edge audio techniques from sound artist Peter Cusack
and beautiful imagery from Norfolk-based photographer Matthew
Usher, to conjure this vibrant and elemental landscape.

SHIFTING LINES
This work, generously supported by Arts Council England, is part of
the UEA’s ‘Future and Form’ series of works designed to explore the
interface between contemporary literature and creative technology.
By Mona Arshi and Mutiny in association with Dr Jos Smith (UEA),
the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and UEA
Ground-breaking technology meets some of the most innovative writers on the planet: UEA’s world-renowned
creative writing programme presents a multi-installation virtual and physical exhibition exploring the interface
between contemporary literature and creative technology.
You’ll experience Arshi’s poems within a dynamic audioscape, accompanied
by treated images, all arranged to give you, the listener,
a sense of the poems emerging from the landscape, water and shoreline of
Cley Reserve. In fact, Mutiny’s use of Resolume (7) software means that the
video and audio inputs are actually processed in real-time within the space.
After exploring the installation experience in the visitor centre (around 15
mins), you can take a walk around the reserve with the ‘field audio’ version,
listening to the poems in the spaces which inspired them.

Poems require a reading age of 8+. The installation will not
support completely free movement, running or loud talking.
Younger children and babies in prams or pushchairs can
be accommodated.
This is designed primarily as a standing experience. However, some
seating will be available for people who are unable to remain standing
for the duration of the experience.

You can find more information at mutiny.org.uk/shifting-lines Mobile: take the ‘field audio’ version outside The walking element of Shifting Lines uses a small web application, which runs on Android and iOS phones (and Linux). This new multimedia poetry collection by Mona Arshi is inspired by and recorded at the stunning scenery of Cley Wildlife Reserve. Arshi draws on the ancient Arabic poetry form of ghazal, combined with cutting edge audio techniques from sound artist Peter Cusack and beautiful imagery from Norfolk-based photographer Matthew Usher, to conjure this vibrant and elemental landscape. *booking required WHERE TO SEE IT SHIFTING LINES This work, generously supported by Arts Council England, is part of the UEA’s ‘Future and Form’ series of works designed to explore the interface between contemporary literature and creative technology. By Mona Arshi and Mutiny in association with Dr Jos Smith (UEA), the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and UEA Ground-breaking technology meets some of the most innovative writers on the planet: UEA’s world-renowned creative writing programme presents a multi-installation virtual and physical exhibition exploring the interface between contemporary literature and creative technology. You’ll experience Arshi’s poems within a dynamic audioscape, accompanied by treated images, all arranged to give you, the listener, a sense of the poems emerging from the landscape, water and shoreline of Cley Reserve. In fact, Mutiny’s use of Resolume (7) software means that the video and audio inputs are actually processed in real-time within the space. After exploring the installation experience in the visitor centre (around 15 mins), you can take a walk around the reserve with the ‘field audio’ version, listening to the poems in the spaces which inspired them.
