Spanish culture y olé!

•Short description of tasks
• I introduce d students to Spanish culture - traditions,
festivals, food and main cities.. At the end of the project,
the learners were free to choose what they like the most
about Spain and carried out a project about that.
Aims and Objectives
• Promote cultural awareness.
• Identify local festivals and events across Spain.
• Locate the main Spanish cities and their monuments.
• Increase motivation for learning Spanish.
• Foster creativity to carry out a project about Spain.

Target Pupil Group: S2
Number of pupils involved: 28
Start and Finish: January – February 2016
Relevance to CfE capacities

Successful Learners, who can reflect on how they have
acquired and learned their first language and how this can assist
them in further language learning
Confident Individuals who, through experiencing success
and support, can interact with others in real-life situations, talk
about topics of personal interest and deliver presentations in
their new language
Effective Contributors who can work in individual, paired
and group situations, and establish and maintain contact with
other speakers of the target language.
Responsible Citizens who have a growing awareness of life
in another society and of the issues facing citizens in the
countries where their new language is spoken.

Additional Details
• I was very flexible during the sessions, sometimes learners asked
me many curiosities, so we were talking about what they wanted to
know and they were very motivated - one day a girl came wearing
a flamenco dress and playing castanets!
• I was so impressed with such wonderful projects they did by
themselves.
• Many of the pupils will take Spanish as a subject next year. They
are now know that there are many wonderful places in Spain
where it really do need to be able to communicate in Spanish.

Festival Traditions

  • 1. Spanish culture y olé! Virginia Lahoz East Ayrshire •Short description of tasks • I introduce d students to Spanish culture - traditions, festivals, food and main cities.. At the end of the project, the learners were free to choose what they like the most about Spain and carried out a project about that. Aims and Objectives • Promote cultural awareness. • Identify local festivals and events across Spain. • Locate the main Spanish cities and their monuments. • Increase motivation for learning Spanish. • Foster creativity to carry out a project about Spain. Language: Spanish Target Pupil Group: S2 Number of pupils involved: 28 Start and Finish: January – February 2016

Relevance to CfE capacities [NB: Please delete any capacity that does NOT apply to your initiative] Successful Learners, who can reflect on how they have acquired and learned their first language and how this can assist them in further language learning Confident Individuals who, through experiencing success and support, can interact with others in real-life situations, talk about topics of personal interest and deliver presentations in their new language Effective Contributors who can work in individual, paired and group situations, and establish and maintain contact with other speakers of the target language. Responsible Citizens who have a growing awareness of life in another society and of the issues facing citizens in the countries where their new language is spoken. That festival must be a good fun“ “It was an enriching experience for the students to have the opportunity to learn and experience Spanish culture with a native speaker, they also were engaging in an authentic dialogue” 3
  • 4. Additional Details • I was very flexible during the sessions, sometimes learners asked me many curiosities, so we were talking about what they wanted to know and they were very motivated - one day a girl came wearing a flamenco dress and playing castanets! • I was so impressed with such wonderful projects they did by themselves. • Many of the pupils will take Spanish as a subject next year. They are now know that there are many wonderful places in Spain where it really do need to be able to communicate in Spanish. 4
