The pelvis consists of bones, ligaments, and muscles. There are 4 bones that make up the bony pelvis: 2 hip bones, the sacrum, and the coccyx. The pelvis has 4 gateways besides the pelvic outlet. The anatomical position and angles of the pelvis are described. The pelvis is divided into the greater pelvis (false pelvis) and lesser pelvis (true pelvis). Dimensions are provided for the pelvic inlet, cavity, and outlet for males and females. The female pelvis is wider, shorter, and more shallow to accommodate childbirth. Sex differences in pelvic shape and measurements are also summarized.
