I envision Smart Food becoming a part of regular diets and the food system. By building millets and sorghum as a major business and progressing from the Big 3 to create the Big 5 and later the Big 7, we will have a major impact on global issues of nutrition/health, environment, and farmer welfare. Millets are traditional foods of these areas, are super nutritious, survive with minimal water and are often
the last crop standing in times of drought. They are recognized as “Climate Smart” crops. They are also prone to very few pests and diseases and are often naturally organic and have a low carbon footprint.

As the world gets hotter and rainfall more erratic, the type and availability of ingredients for daily meals are changing.
With support from the Government of Canada and the Global Environment Facility’s Least Developed Countries Fund, the Canada-UNDP Climate Change Adaptation Facility (CCAF) has been supporting six least developed countries and small island developing states (Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Haiti, Mali, Niger and Sudan) to strengthen climate resilience and enhance food security.
To better understand and share the experiences from these six countries, and to celebrate some of the successes of the projects in enhancing food security and water access, the CCAF team has worked together to create a cookbook.
This "Appe-teaser" version of the cookbook, a short teaser, offers a recipe from each country. The full publication will be available in early 2017, showcasing more delicious recipes and more information on how climate change is impacting specific ingredients and recipes, and how each country's adaptation efforts are changing the ingredients and cooking methods traditionally used.

Learn Grow - A Rotary Project Which Helps the Hungry Help ThemselvesMary Wharton
The Learn/Grow Project teaches people in economically challenged countries how to best utilize their own local resources more effectively rather than rely on introduced farming methods and imported crops. Learn/Grow takes the best of both traditional local agriculture and combines it with the best of modern agricultural knowledge to help locals proudly create sensible home gardens that produce foods closely matched to the nutritional needs for themselves and their families and are easily sustainable.
Locally adapted plants with higher overall nutritional values can be chosen than many of the traditional western food plants can be chosen using the tool that Bruce has developed. The project emphasizes the need for people who are suffering from nutritional deficiencies to grow a wide variety of these locally adapted plants in their gardens in order to meet their needs more completely. For instance, it has been documented that many Solomon Island women have anemia, a condition that can often be cured by simply eating more leafy greens that contain iron. Using Food Plants International’s unique database, Learn/Grow takes the lead in helping determine which locally adapted food plants offer the greatest food values for people known to be suffering from nutritional deficiencies like anemia and teaches them how to grow them and prepare them so they may be safely eaten.

Urban Garden All Stars. Our goal is to continue the story and character development for an eco-friendly educational animated web series based on our 1st flash based pilot episode in the creation of a Strawberry bowl. The story is based on 3 characters named Mary, Kiwi, and Banana. They see the world with no boundaries and are willing to try new methods for growing food in an urban environment. These created characters are avatars that will teach communities and children all about being an Urban Garden All Star. The ending result will be funding this project to develop the storyboard concepts into real episodes. These episodes will allow you and your kids to engage with their lives and the challenging situations they face as they grow edible products.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Community based interactive educational program Program Description: According to Iroquois legend, corn, beans, and squash are three inseparable sisters who only grow and thrive together. This legend gave us the idea to create a piece of choreography based on ancient agricultural techniques. This dance is about how art and human creations are inspired by the elements of the Earth, the food systems that nourish our bodies, the practices that strengthen our culture and fulfill our spirit. Throughout the civilization of man, dance has been a fundamental element in ritual practices, gatherings of celebration, and oral storytelling. Impact: This dance performance will encourage the local community through public awareness to increase the amount of healthy and sustainable food. With “Living On”, we will open the door to a new medium of garden based education and a deepening of one’s connection to the land and the rhythms of nature in a memorable experience of dance. The “Living On” Feel the Earth dance lets nature be the power that propels art, spirit, and creativity.
