Frederick Smith started Federal Express Corporation in 1969 with an initial investment of $90 to offer overnight delivery services between 22 cities in the US using small aircraft. Over the years, FedEx grew through mergers and acquisitions of other delivery companies and by expanding its geographical reach. It also made significant investments in information technology to improve tracking of shipments and provide digital services to customers. Today, FedEx operates a large global delivery network and remains a dominant player in the package delivery industry.
