This document calls for a provincial strategy in Ontario to address Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). FASD is an umbrella term for lifelong brain-based disabilities caused by prenatal alcohol exposure, and is the leading cause of developmental disability in Canada. The document recommends that the strategy focus on 5 areas: 1) increasing awareness and prevention of FASD, 2) improving access to assessment and diagnosis, 3) enhancing support services for those living with FASD, 4) expanding training for families/caregivers and service providers, and 5) developing evidence-based, culturally appropriate services through research.
