3. What does ‘fantasy’ mean? The term fantasy is used to describe the specific genre that uses magic and other supernatural phenomena's as a primary element of the plot, theme or setting for a film. Films usually involving magic, supernatural events, make-believe creatures, or exotic fantasy worlds.

4. Typical Conventions of Fantasy based films: Mystical creatures or monsters, e.g vampires, fairies, and dragons. The trailers are all very ‘dream like’ in the sense that the plots do not appear realistic. In all three trailers the main characters are in the fantasy world, without the ordinary characters, from the real world around them knowing. – e.g in modern day world without others knowing the supernatural exist. The trailers are very secretive, as they don’t give away too much of the story line. Very dark and mysterious; this emphasises the unknowing and isolation. Quick and short snippets of action are shown, to prevent too much of the plot to be given away. A lot of dissolves, fade in and out black, and cuts are used to help create pace as the action is being shown.

5. What gives away the fantasy representation? Elements that are supernatural or not human. The dramatic and uneasy music. Fantasy can be very similarly overlapped with horror or sci-fi films in regards to the mystery and sense of unknowing, however fantasy is a lot more mystical and less frightening. Horror doesn’t allow the audience to know what is happening, whereas fantasy allows the viewer to follow the plot without suspense.
