Hello South Florida NBMBAA members and partners! Our
year-end eNewsletter is finally delivered! To what do we owe the delay,
you ask? Our accomplishments have been many since our
last issue – so much so, that we wanted to make sure we included them
all in this issue.
In our cover story, we share the official photograph of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winners of the
2007 LOT Case Competition – we are so proud of all of the students. They each exemplify a
commitment to hard work and what investment in them, as leaders does–rewards-it pays off!
Additionally, you’ll read more about our South Florida Leaders’ success on page 3; the
announcement of our 2007 Scholarship awards on page 4 and scenes from this year’s LOT
Scholarship Golf Classic on page 6.
It has been a pleasure to serve as your President, a 2nd time over, since 2005. You may recall
that I had a laundry list of “to dos” but there are two accomplishments that quickly come to mind-the
stability of our Leaders of Tomorrow Program and engaging key local sponsors.
Under the direction of Alison Quick, the LOT Program has grown to over 20 active student
members. Alison has been able to accomplish this with a great team of volunteers and I thank all
of you. I can’t thank the entire team enough for volunteering and giving of their time to our Leaders
who are the future. Know that you have made an impact in their lives like no other. I ask that you
continue to be the “village.”
I’m ecstatic about our new Corporate Partners-having engaged their support of our mission,
namely, Ocean Bank, American Express, FedEx and JM Family Enterprises. They definitely
exemplify the meaning of “putting your money where your mouth is.” They made a commitment,
we agreed upon it and they delivered! I have purposely placed their company logos at the bottom
of this message so that you remember their brand when you see it, for they are truly making a
difference. We should remain committed to them because they have aided in creating economic
wealth amongst the lives of African Americans throughout South Florida.
Thanks to my entire 2005-07 Executive Team: Catherine Minnis, Avis Russ, Valerie Pigatt, Pat
Williams, Roxanna Brown, TC Adderly, and Darell Scott for all you’ve done over the last two years
to ensure the success of our Strategic Plan initiatives. Continue doing what you do!
As this is my last e-message, it will not be my last words. I have made a commitment to provide
written contributions to the Leadership Development Series column. You will hear from me again.
I ask that everyone support our new leadership. They come equipped with Relevance: they’re

3. South Florida LOT Brings Home the Grand Prize

The National Black MBA Association 6th
Annual Leaders of Tomorrow® (LOT) Case Competition,
sponsored by ExxonMobil, was held on Saturday, June 23rd
in Philadelphia. High school students
represented 11 local NBMBAA chapters including South Florida. The competition was held at the
prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania at Jon Huntsman Hall.
The South Florida Chapter team was represented by Guerby Noel, Ransel Castillo and Andre
Brennan, Jr., all high school seniors graduating from Turner Technical High School in Miami.
Congratulations are in order to them for spending countless hours reading and preparing
recommendations to Apple, Inc., a Harvard Business School Case Study. The students presented
solutions on how Steve Jobs could regain personal computer market share. The gentlemen used
four important Ps to obtain their winnings – planning; preparation; patience; and perseverance –
and not in that order. They introduced themselves as consultants of RGA Capital, Inc. and offered
unique, but effective strategies upon their presentation exit – envision “giving ruby red apples to
each judge, knowing Apple’s stock price of the day and demonstrating confidence!”

5. MEMBER PROFILE
Alison Quick
Director, LOT Program
Alison Quick's involvement
with the NBMBAA South Florida Chapter began
by meeting the Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT)
students at one of the National Conferences. She
was impressed with how the high school students
introduced themselves and their enthusiasm for
the LOT program. She began working with the
program 5 years ago and accepted the
appointment as Director two years ago.
Alison is one of four children of a career Air
Force family. She has lived in various states in
the eastern part of the United States including
Virginia and Illinois. She earned an
undergraduate degree in Biology from Wheaton
College in Wheaton, Illinois and later earned her
Master of Science degree in Human Genetics
Research at Virginia Commonwealth University.
She graduated with honors from Florida Atlantic
University with a MBA specializing in Finance.
Alison is currently the Manager of Data Analysis
and Reporting at JM Family Enterprises in
Deerfield Beach, Florida. She is also a certified
Project Manager (PMP).
In addition to her involvement with the LOT
program, Alison is actively involved in her church
as a Volunteer Coordinator and participates in the
quilting ministry, PieceMakers, creating and
making quilts for those in need. She also enjoys
photography as one of her hobbies. Prior to her
involvement with LOT, she was a mentor with
Take Stock in Children for over 6 years.
When asked about the future outlook for the
LOT Program, Alison stated “we plan to continue
scheduling guest speakers and providing
additional opportunities for the students to be
exposed to the business world.”

Collegiate Chapter Update
National Headquarters has begun talks with
Florida Memorial University and the University of
Miami to form an ‘Interest Group’ of a minimum of
15 undergraduate students interested in
membership in the NBMBAA.
The rewards of forming a Collegiate Chapter are
countless but to name a few:
• Positively impact/strengthen the intellectual
and economic quality of life for African-
American men and women.
• Become the catalyst for developing
innovative solutions and approaches for
increasing the number of African-
Americans in business, management,
educational programs throughout the
world.
• Encourage and support young African-
Americans who are interested in pursuing
careers in management.
Currently 10 Collegiate Chapters have been
established. Will these institutions be next?
