BRANDING
Why is branding so important? In a word…COMPETITION! Branding identifies and differentiates a company and its products. You might say branding is a trustmark: a projection of a company’s essential quality and credibility that customers recognize and rely on.
Positioning clients as front-runners in their markets takes know-how. NextPhase Strategy proceeds by using the marketing plan as the matrix, then constructing integrated communications strategies that project the core message to customers.
Key services in this area include:
- Branding Strategy
- Name Development
- Logo Design
- Corporate Identity

Design of A Spell Corrector For Hausa LanguageWaqas Tariq
In this article, a spell corrector has been designed for the Hausa language which is the second most spoken language in Africa and do not yet have processing tools. This study is a contribution to the automatic processing of the Hausa language. We used existing techniques for other languages and adapted them to the special case of the Hausa language. The corrector designed operates essentially on Mijinguini’s dictionary and characteristics of the Hausa alphabet. After a brief review on spell checking and spell correcting techniques and the state of art in the Hausa language processing, we opted for the data structures trie and hash table to represent the dictionary. The edit distance and the specificities of the Hausa alphabet have been used to detect and correct spelling errors. The implementation of the spell corrector has been made on a special editor developed for that purpose (LyTexEditor) but also as an extension (add-on) for OpenOffice.org. A comparison was made on the performance of the two data structures used.

alumna Jenny Ming shared valuable insights from her experience
leading two global organizations - Charlotte Russe, and Gap, Inc’s Old
Navy.
• The Lucas College of Business held a heartwarming Scholarship
Celebration honoring our generous donors and recognizing
exceptional students. The event brought together over 170 donors,
student scholarship awardees, family members, faculty, and friends.
Keynote speaker and alumnus Gino Blefari spoke of the value of giving
back, and student speakers Nicholas Ayala and Hillary Schauf told
inspiring stories of their lives and aspirations.
• 9 students will go on the Thompson Global Internship Program this
summer (7 to Hong Kong and 2 to Australia) to work on special
projects for Crown Worldwide Group, a global moving and storage
company based in Hong Kong, and owned by alumnus Jim Thompson.

2010, and have been assigned to 7 cities in 3 continents.
• Since Spring 2013, thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Lucas
College of Business has granted 47 study abroad scholarships. 42
students who are planning to study abroad starting Fall 2014 have
been invited to apply for our college scholarships. 3 of our student
awardees will be our first team ever to attend the European Innovation
Academy, held in Nice, France this coming summer.

These Strategic Principles flow from our Vision, Mission and Values statement and
reflect the reality that we provide the largest percentage of business professionals to
our innovative Silicon Valley business environment. These Strategic Principles are the
foundation for our strategic planning process.
Student Success - We instill within our graduates our Core Values (Excellence,
Ethics, Entrepreneurship, Engagement) along with knowledge and skills to succeed
in the ever-changing global economy. We seek to facilitate and recognize student
success and life-long learning.
Faculty Achievement - Excellent teaching underpins all of our activities. In addition,
we engage in research that furthers the knowledge base of the Silicon Valley region
and beyond, and service that contributes to the vibrancy of our university and
external communities.
Academic Reputation - We strive to continuously improve our undergraduate and
graduate programs and highlight the College’s impact on Silicon Valley and global
communities, while maintaining our prestigious AACSB accreditation and advancing
our College’s national and global reputation.
High Impact Practices - We promote the use of innovative pedagogy, technology,
and co-curricular activities to educate our diverse student body. Innovation is
fostered through experimentation and continuous improvement.
Globally-focused Education - We prepare globally-aware leaders of the future, by
providing them an understanding of cross-cultural and institutional differences and
opportunities to engage with other cultures. We promote partnerships with non-US
universities to enhance global education and outreach for both students and faculty.
Culture of Engagement - We strive to create a culture that encourages life-long
learning, community engagement, social responsibility, ethical behavior, and pride in
the institution.
Alumni - We actively engage with our alumni and nurture them as ambassadors and
advocates of the College, advisors on educational relevance and impact, and as
mentors to the new generations of students.
Partnerships - We build and maintain mutually supportive relationships with
students, colleagues, companies, non-profit organizations, and community-based
groups that hire our graduates, and provide internship and learning experiences, and
financial support for our students.
Financial Resources - While State funding provides an important financial base, we
are committed to expanding our alternative revenue sources to support our Mission
and advance the financial sustainability of the University.

The renovated Jack Holland Student Success Center (JHSSC) has
seen a surge in usage, not in small measure due to the improved
facilities and environment of the Center.
Since October 2013, JHSSC advisors have seen over 5000 students,
and since the start of the Spring 2014 semester, over 1600 students
have come in to meet with tutors for help with their business
courses.
We have enhanced Center services by providing writing tutors
(addressing a top skill deficit of our students), registration
workshops, and greater access to our Peer Leaders who share their
strategies for success in our business school.
We plan on expanding support for career planning and global
experiences in the coming months.
