What is Failure
Failure is defined as a lack of success or the inability to meet
an expectation. A fairly common understanding of failure
is setting a goal but not achieving it. Failure is commonly
considered as the opposite of success.
Most of us don't set out looking to fail at anything. And
we especially don’t want to be labeled as a failure. But
maybe that is a mistake.
Maybe Failure can be useful. We can learn from it, gain
new insights, and do better next time. The right kind of
failures give us new information and teach us something that
gets us closer to our goals.
I. What is Failure?
1. Lack of persistence
• More people fail not because they
lack knowledge or talent or money or
time, but because they quit.
• The total secret of success lies in two
words, persistence and resistance.
Persist in what must be done and
resist what ought not to be done.

2. Lack of Vision or ambition
• People without a clear vision of
what they want to do or what
they want to be do not take a
stand. They go along to get along
because they lack confidence and
courage. They conform in order to
get accepted even when they
know that what they are doing is
wrong or not going to work in
their favor.
3. Rationalizing
• Winners may analyze but never
rationalize. That is a loser’s game.
Losers always have a book full of
excuses to tell you why they could
not.
4. Not learning from past mistakes
• People who do not learn lessons
from history are doomed. Failure is
a teacher if we have the right
attitude. Failure is a detour, not a
dead end. It is a delay not a defeat.
Experience is the name we give to
our mistakes.
5. Lack of Discipline
• Anyone who has accomplished
anything worthwhile has never done
so without discipline. Discipline takes
self control, sacrifice, and avoiding
distraction and temptations. It means
staying focused till the work is done. It
doesn't mean that you cannot have
holidays, or take rest or have fun from
time to time ,but its about knowing
your priorities, and give them time
and attention.
6. Lack of strategy
• Is when you know what you want,
but you don’t have a clear or
effective plan for achieving it. For
instance, maybe you’ve failed to
complete a project because you
only have a general sketch and not
a master plan.
III. Fear of Failure
• The fear of failure, which is sometimes
referred to as atychiphobia, is an
irrational and persistent fear of failing.
Sometimes this fear might emerge in
response to a specific situation. In other
cases, it might be related to another
mental health condition such
as anxiety or depression.
• The fear of failure may also be related to
being a perfectionist. Because
perfectionists have such high expectations
for how they expect things to turn out,
they may experience a nagging fear that
they won't live up to those often
unrealistically high standards.
 Believing that you don't have the skills or knowledge to
achieve something
 Procrastinating to the point that it affects your performance
or ability to finish on time
 Telling people that you will probably fail so that
expectations remain low
 Underestimating your own abilities to avoid feeling let
down
 Worrying that imperfections or shortcomings will make
other people think less of you
 Worrying that you will disappoint others if you fail
IV. How to handle Failure?
1. Maximize value of Failure
Use Failure to gain as much
advantage and information as
possible. It is important for us to take
time to capture these valuable
lessons and ensure that we learn
from our failures. In this way we can
build up a body of evidence-based
wisdom and experience that we can
use to inform our future decisions and
behavior.

2.Get Back up…With Caution
Resilient individuals are able to take in their stride
what life throws at them, and carry on towards their
goal, although perhaps carrying a limp as they bear
the consequences of adversity. It takes courage to
keep moving forward when the path gets harder and
darker.
3. Focus on the things you can control
Instead of worrying about aspects of the situation
that you have no power over, focus your energy on
things that you can control.
4. Plan Ahead
When you are facing a challenge that might trigger your
fear of failing, work on developing alternative plans just
in case your initial efforts don’t go as planned. Having a
plan B (or plan C) can help you feel less anxious and
more secure.
5. Use Positive Thinking
Avoid negative self-talk that can undermine your
confidence and create feelings of anxiety.
Instead, work on thinking more like an
optimist to keep your motivation high.
6. Redefine Failure
Changing how you think about failure
may also help reduce your feelings
of fear. Failure is part of life and can
be an important opportunity to learn
and acquire new skills. It can
certainly be disappointing, but it is
important to maintain a healthy
perspective toward the potential
benefits of failing from time to time.

• he failed at school, He wrestled
with drugs and poverty and took
the trouble to commit a failed
suicide.
• He has 15 Grammys awards, an
Oscar and he sold more the 154
million album around the world.
And of course he is considered as

history.
