Dual EMBA 2015 - 2016

PHIL ROSENZWEIG
Phil Rosenzweig is professor of strategy and international business. Since 2009, he is
Director of IMD’s Executive MBA Program. Professor Rosenzweig's areas of expertise
include strategy, firm performance, and complex organization design. He has written
extensively on the management of multinational firms, with articles published in
Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, The
International Executive, Academy of Management Review, Management Science,
California Management Review, and the European Management Journal. He is also
the author of numerous case studies on firms including Microsoft, Daimler Benz,
Matsushita, Renault, Heineken, Rhône-Poulenc, Accor, MTN, Dubai Aluminium, and
Vodafone.
More recently, Phil Rosenzweig has focused his attention on critical thinking and
managerial decision making. His 2007 book, The Halo Effect and the Eight Other
Business Delusions that Deceive Managers (Free Press, 2007), takes a critical look at
the errors that pervade much business thinking. It was named Best Business Book of
the Year by get Abstracts, and was favorably reviewed in Harvard Business Review,
the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and dozens of other
newspapers and magazines. To date, it has been translated into 14 languages. An
article based on the book, “Misunderstanding the Nature of Firm Performance: The
Halo Effect and Other Business Delusions,” received the Accenture Award as best
article of 2007 in California Management Review.
Drawing on 25 years of business and academic experience, Professor Rosenzweig has
consulted with numerous firms in Europe and North America, and has taught
executive courses in North America, South America, Europe, Japan, Singapore, and
the Middle East. Prior to joining IMD, Phil Rosenzweig was assistant professor at
Harvard Business School from 1990 to 1996. In addition to his academic experience,
he worked with Hewlett-Packard Company in California from 1979 to 1986.
He received his PhD from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1990;
MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1980; BA in economics from
the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1976.

BINGSHENG TENG
Professor Teng is Associate Professor of Strategic Management at CKGSB and
the Associate Dean of CKGSB European Campus. He formerly served as a
tenured Associate Professor of Strategic Management at George Washington
University (GWU), where he was a doctoral advisor and lead professor of the
departmental doctoral program.
Achievements
Professor Teng has published over 20 articles in academic journals including
Academy of Management Review and Organization Science. His research is
included in most textbooks on strategic management.
An authority on strategic alliances, he has been interviewed by media such as
The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.
Professor Teng is a member of the Academy of Management and serves on the
editorial board of International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal. He
has received many rewards for his research, including the Wendell and Louis
Crain Research Scholar at the GWU School of Business.
His biography appears in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American
Higher Education.
AIMIN YAN
Dual EMBA 2015 - 2016
South Africa Module January 17 to 23, 2016
Dr. Yan Aimin is Professor of Management at CKGSB. He served as Professor
of Organizational Behavior at Boston University School of Management (with
tenure), where he also held positions of Faculty Director of International MBA,
Faculty Liaison of Organizational Behavior Ph.D. Program, and Research
Director of Human Resources Policy Institute. As one of the founding faculty,
Prof. Yan participated in the founding of CKGSB in 2002 and has been a visiting
professor till May 2014. He has taught Introduction to Management and
Organizational Behavior for EMBA, MBA and FMBA, from the first class to now.
Prof. Yan sits on the editorial board of several academic journals, including
Journal of International Management, Journal of Management and
Organization, Harvard Business Review (Chinese edition), and Journal of Asia
Business Studies.
Achievements
Prof. Yan has published widely in leading academic journals such as the
Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of
International Business Studies, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of
Applied Behavioral Science, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of
International Management, and Human Relations. He was ranked by Journal of
International Management one of the Top 9 scholars in the Global Strategic
Management area based on “productivity” and “scholarly impact”.
MARTHA L. MAZNEVSKI
Martha Maznevski is Professor of Organizational Behavior and International
Management at IMD.
She teaches courses and modules spanning a broad range of organizational
behavior topics, including teams and leadership in global and virtual (distance)
contexts, diversity and inclusiveness, and the relationship between
organizational and national culture. She leads company programs for Skanska,
Adecco, Maersk and other companies. From 2009-2013 she directed IMD’s
globally recognized full-time MBA program. She has served as a consultant and
advisor to public and private organizations in North America, Europe, Latin
America and Asia on challenges and opportunities of managing people globally.
Professor Maznevski has presented and published numerous articles on these
subjects, including the popular textbook International Management Behavior,
currently in its seventh edition (Wiley). Her current research focuses on the
on-going dynamics of high-performing teams and networks in multinational
organizations, and leading people in global complexity. Martha Maznevski co-
developed the Cultural Perspectives Questionnaire, an instrument that
measures individuals’ cultural orientations and is widely used as a diagnostic
tool in global teams and organizations.
Before joining IMD, Professor Maznevski served as Faculty at the University of
Virginia (USA) and the University of Western Ontario (Canada), and as a
visiting researcher at the Stockholm School of Economics (Sweden). She
earned degrees in education from the University of Toronto (Canada), and in
anthropology (undergraduate) and business administration (PhD) from the
University of Western Ontario.

  • 1. Faculty Biographies Dual EMBA 2015 - 2016 South Africa Module January 17 to 23, 2016 PHIL ROSENZWEIG Phil Rosenzweig is professor of strategy and international business. Since 2009, he is Director of IMD’s Executive MBA Program. Professor Rosenzweig's areas of expertise include strategy, firm performance, and complex organization design. He has written extensively on the management of multinational firms, with articles published in Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, The International Executive, Academy of Management Review, Management Science, California Management Review, and the European Management Journal. He is also the author of numerous case studies on firms including Microsoft, Daimler Benz, Matsushita, Renault, Heineken, Rhône-Poulenc, Accor, MTN, Dubai Aluminium, and Vodafone. More recently, Phil Rosenzweig has focused his attention on critical thinking and managerial decision making. His 2007 book, The Halo Effect and the Eight Other Business Delusions that Deceive Managers (Free Press, 2007), takes a critical look at the errors that pervade much business thinking. It was named Best Business Book of the Year by get Abstracts, and was favorably reviewed in Harvard Business Review, the Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and dozens of other newspapers and magazines. To date, it has been translated into 14 languages. An article based on the book, “Misunderstanding the Nature of Firm Performance: The Halo Effect and Other Business Delusions,” received the Accenture Award as best article of 2007 in California Management Review. Drawing on 25 years of business and academic experience, Professor Rosenzweig has consulted with numerous firms in Europe and North America, and has taught executive courses in North America, South America, Europe, Japan, Singapore, and the Middle East. Prior to joining IMD, Phil Rosenzweig was assistant professor at Harvard Business School from 1990 to 1996. In addition to his academic experience, he worked with Hewlett-Packard Company in California from 1979 to 1986.

He received his PhD from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1990; MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1980; BA in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1976. Dual EMBA 2015 - 2016 South Africa Module January 17 to 23, 2016 BINGSHENG TENG Professor Teng is Associate Professor of Strategic Management at CKGSB and the Associate Dean of CKGSB European Campus. He formerly served as a tenured Associate Professor of Strategic Management at George Washington University (GWU), where he was a doctoral advisor and lead professor of the departmental doctoral program. Achievements Professor Teng has published over 20 articles in academic journals including Academy of Management Review and Organization Science. His research is included in most textbooks on strategic management. An authority on strategic alliances, he has been interviewed by media such as The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. Professor Teng is a member of the Academy of Management and serves on the editorial board of International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal. He has received many rewards for his research, including the Wendell and Louis Crain Research Scholar at the GWU School of Business.

AIMIN YAN Dual EMBA 2015 - 2016 South Africa Module January 17 to 23, 2016 Dr. Yan Aimin is Professor of Management at CKGSB. He served as Professor of Organizational Behavior at Boston University School of Management (with tenure), where he also held positions of Faculty Director of International MBA, Faculty Liaison of Organizational Behavior Ph.D. Program, and Research Director of Human Resources Policy Institute. As one of the founding faculty, Prof. Yan participated in the founding of CKGSB in 2002 and has been a visiting professor till May 2014. He has taught Introduction to Management and Organizational Behavior for EMBA, MBA and FMBA, from the first class to now. Prof. Yan sits on the editorial board of several academic journals, including Journal of International Management, Journal of Management and Organization, Harvard Business Review (Chinese edition), and Journal of Asia Business Studies. Achievements Prof. Yan has published widely in leading academic journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Applied Behavioral Science, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of

He was ranked by Journal of International Management one of the Top 9 scholars in the Global Strategic Management area based on “productivity” and “scholarly impact”. MARTHA L. MAZNEVSKI Martha Maznevski is Professor of Organizational Behavior and International Management at IMD. She teaches courses and modules spanning a broad range of organizational behavior topics, including teams and leadership in global and virtual (distance) contexts, diversity and inclusiveness, and the relationship between organizational and national culture. She leads company programs for Skanska, Adecco, Maersk and other companies. From 2009-2013 she directed IMD’s globally recognized full-time MBA program. She has served as a consultant and advisor to public and private organizations in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia on challenges and opportunities of managing people globally. Professor Maznevski has presented and published numerous articles on these subjects, including the popular textbook International Management Behavior, currently in its seventh edition (Wiley). Her current research focuses on the on-going dynamics of high-performing teams and networks in multinational organizations, and leading people in global complexity. Martha Maznevski co- developed the Cultural Perspectives Questionnaire, an instrument that measures individuals’ cultural orientations and is widely used as a diagnostic tool in global teams and organizations. Before joining IMD, Professor Maznevski served as Faculty at the University of Virginia (USA) and the University of Western Ontario (Canada), and as a visiting researcher at the Stockholm School of Economics (Sweden). She earned degrees in education from the University of Toronto (Canada), and in anthropology (undergraduate) and business administration (PhD) from the University of Western Ontario.
