1. Facebook and the mobile phone landscape in Pakistan
This week, we cast our eye on Facebook’s expansion on the mobile front, looking at the mobile usage
of the social network from a local perspective and analyze the dynamics of Pakistan’s Facebook as well
as mobile population. To start off, there are about 7.4 million Facebook users in Pakistan! Here are
some other statistics that the social network has provided:
69.1% of the Pakistani Facebook community is male while 30.9% is female.
Looking at their age brackets, 36.5 % of the local Facebook user base is between the ages of 13-
15; the most sizeable chunk belongs to the 16-24 age bracket and is 77%, while 47.3% belong to
the 22-35 age bracket.
1.6 million Pakistani users have listed themselves as single, 0.2 million claim to be in a
relationship, around 0.44 million people are listed as married, 0.118 million are engaged while a
staggering 4.89 million people have not listed their relationship status on the social network.
The mobile phone landscape is as follows:
More than 0.76 million people use iOS or android phones. Out of this population base, 65.7 % are
male users while 34.3% are female. Thus the number of males using smart phones outweighs its
female counterpart by nearly two times.
The android/iOS phone usage ratio in Pakistan is around (69-31)%
Total number of android users In Pakistan is 524,420. Out of this, 67.6 % are male users while
32.4 % are female.
Total number of iOS users in Pakistan is 235,680. Male users comprise 61.37% while female users
comprise 38.63% of the iOS population.
If we compare the Facebook and smart phone populations in Pakistan, we can say that around 1 out
of 10 Facebook users in Pakistan also use a smart phone.
