The Indian defense shipbuilding industry has grown in its ability to develop and produce world-class frigates, destroyers, and other naval vessels for the Indian Navy. However, it still needs further development to meet international standards. The industry is comprised of over 32 shipyards, including public sector shipyards owned by the central and state governments and private shipyards.
