This document provides an overview of extremophiles, which are microorganisms that thrive in physically or geochemically extreme conditions. It begins by defining extremophiles and their classification based on extreme habitats. It then discusses various types of extremophiles in more depth, including thermophiles and hyperthermophiles that grow at high temperatures, psychrophiles that grow at low temperatures, acidophiles and alkaliphiles that grow at extreme pH, and barophiles that live under high pressure. For each type of extremophile, examples are given and their adaptations to survive in extreme conditions are described.
