Comparison of Neurological Assessment Tools Gcs Avpu and Four
An assessment of the level of consciousness (LOC) should be carried out during the primary
survey of all patients, using the ABCDE approach Cole (2009: 28). Any initial or subsequent
reduction in the LOC of the patient may be caused by hypoxia; hypovolaemia; head injury; drug or
medicine use; hypoglycaemia; hypothermia or alcohol ingestion (Cole, 2009:44).
An assessment of the LOC of the patient is vital for an accurate pain assessment and the
administration of analgesia, and the subsequent assessment of its efficacy (Rose, et al. 2011).
Regular evaluation of a patient s LOC helps detect the onset of hypothermia and hypovolaemia.

Staff assessing these patients found themselves recording GCS scores lower than what they felt was
appropriate.
Since the GCS became widely adopted and its use became expanded beyond the original intention
of the scale, certain additional limitations have been identified (Laureys, 2005). Verbal responses
become difficult or impossible to assess when patients have been sedated or intubated (Majerus,
2005).
Some clinicians feel that scoring eye opening is not sufficient to indicate brainstem arousal and a
number of coma scales have been proposed that include brainstem reflexes, most of them more
complex than the GCS scale (Majerus, 2005). The Glasgow LiГЁge scale is the simplest variation
proposed (Born, et al., 1982). It combines the GCS with five brainstem reflexes, but has not been
widely implemented outside Belgium, its country of origin (Laureys, 2005).
Finally, the remaining weaknesses of the GCS scale relate to the assessment of comatose patients.
The GCS becomes unreliable in ongoing care for monitoring coma and recovery through vegetative
or minimally conscious states, before returning to consciousness (Laureys, 2005).
The main advantage of the GCS is its simplicity, allowing it to be utilised by the full range of
clinicians, with a minimal amount of training (Matis, 2008).

Literary Group in British Poetry
The history of English poetry stretches from the middle of the 7th century to the present day. Over
this period, English poets have written some of the most enduring poems in Western culture, and
the language and its poetry have spread around the globe. Consequently, the term English poetry is
unavoidably ambiguous. It can mean poetrywritten in England, or poetry written in the English
language.
The earliest surviving poetry was likely transmitted orally and then written down in versions that do
not now survive; thus, dating the earliest poetry remains difficult and often controversial. The
earliest surviving manuscripts date from the 10th century. Poetry written in Latin, Brythonic (a
predecessor language of Welsh) and Old Irish survives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the poetry that has survived is limited in volume, it is wide in breadth. Beowulf is the only
heroic epic to have survived in its entirety, but fragments of others such as Waldere and the
Finnesburg Fragment show that it was not unique in its time. Other genres include much religious
verse, from devotional works to biblical paraphrase; elegies such as The Wanderer, The Seafarer,
and The Ruin (often taken to be a description of the ruins of Bath); and numerous proverbs, riddles,
and charms.
With one notable exception (Rhyming Poem), Anglo Saxon poetry depends on alliterative verse for
its structure and any rhyme included is merely ornamental.
[edit]The Anglo Norman period and the Later Middle Ages
See also: Anglo Norman literature
With the Norman conquest of England, beginning in 1111 the Anglo Saxon language rapidly
diminished as a written literary language. The new aristocracy spoke French, and this became the
standard language of courts, parliament, and polite society. As the invaders integrated, their
language and literature mingled with that of the natives: the French dialect of the upper classes
became Anglo Norman, and Anglo Saxon underwent a gradual transition into Middle English.
While Anglo Norman or Latin was preferred for high culture, English literature by no means died
out, and a number of important works illustrate the development of the language. Around the turn
of the 13th century, Layamon wrote his Brut, based on Wace s

Call Out My Name Monologue
While the EP only runs for 22 minutes, the first 15 minutes I spent listening to the project I
found myself playing Call Out My Name over and over. The vocal performance on the song
gave me the same feeling of the hurt and pain that we heard in 2011 with The Knowing . While
Abel has given us multiple songs over the years to put us in our feelings, this is one of the few
times in which you can genuinely hear the pain in his voice. For the few of you who actually
paid attention to his relationship with Selena Gomez, you ll know that she was diagnosed with
Lupus and needed a kidney transplant to survive. The Weeknd says in the song, I said I didn t feel
nothing baby, but I lied, I almost cut a piece of myself for your life referencing him attempting to

The thing that I love most about the song is while Abel sings his heart out about love, he still
shows us the piece of shit side of him that we all love. Why can t you wait? Why can t you wait
for me to fall out of love girl? made me burst out in laughter at the thought of him telling her to at
least stay with him until he s ready to leave. When the song ends and transitions to Try Me we see
a more mature Weeknd as he respectfully tries to ruin someone s

Comparing the Journeys of Hesse s Siddhartha and Gandhi Essay
Siddhartha and Gandhi strove for different goals during their lives. Siddhartha s goal was very
personal, while Gandhi s goal encompassed the world. This was shown by their spiritual
development throughout their journeys. Siddhartha evolved from an inexperienced spiritual being
to a man, returned to spirituality, and ended with nirvana. Gandhi traveled a much straighter path,
originally being a worldly man merely seeking his correct place in life, when his spiritual
development unexpectedly produced a great world leader; in Gandhi s own words, a politician
trying to be a saint. Siddhartha and Gandhi s main goals were always different, but they traveled
similar paths at times.
Siddhartha s goal was to find nirvana. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Siddhartha accordingly sought to lose himself, but only succeeded in returning to himself. At this
point, Siddhartha, the self centered thinker, re evaluated his path to nirvana. He came to the
conclusion that all teachings were useless, that he would have to find his own way to the state of
higher being. He expressed this to the Samanas, and to the Illustrious One, Buddha, whose
teachings his faithful shadow, Govinda, accepted. To nobody, O Illustrious One, can you
communicate in words and teachings what happened to you in your hour of enlightenment (Hesse
34). At this point, Siddhartha rejected all doctrines and teachings, believing experience to be the
only true teacher, and set off on his quest again.
Free of all thought and all connections but of those to himself, Siddhartha crossed a river, and
entered the town. Here was where Siddhartha gained the experience he had never before had. He
believed himself to have no teacher of doctrines or wisdom, but Kamala, the courtesan, and
Kamaswami, the merchant, eroded his morals and all the wisdom he had learned from other s lips,
as they taught him how to sin, how to lust for women, wine, possessions, and money. Siddhartha
became a man, and eventually forgot his goal of spiritual nirvana, gradually replacing it with a
more common goal; worldly nirvana, fashioned of wealth and other material pleasures. Despite

Examples Of Rebellion In Animal Farm By George Orwell
Rebellion, especially in a community, is when insurgence takes place. It is usually done to create a
change and heighten a community. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, rebellion shows
itself through strong idealism, word of mouth(snout), and other communities belief systems.
Old Major has an groundbreaking idea that he thinks will give the animals freedom and the animals
like the idea. Old Major says, Rebellion! I do not know when that Rebellion will come, it might be
in a week or in a hundred years, but I know, as surely as I see this straw beneath my feet, that
sooner or later justice will be done. Fix your eyes on that, comrades, throughout the short remainder
of your lives! And above all, pass on this message of mine to those who come after you, so that
future generations shall carry on the struggle until it is victorious, (Chapter 1). Old Major means
that the animals should think of rebellion throughout their life. The animals believe Old Major, and

foreshadowing the animals ultimate demise. Again Orwell writes, Rumours of a wonderful farm,
where the human beings had been turned out and the animals managed their own affairs, continued
to circulate in vague and distorted forms, and throughout that year a wave of rebelliousness ran
through the countryside. (Chapter 4). The animals everywhere heard about the rebelliousness of
Animal Farm, and how successful they believed it was. They all decided to rebel to try to be like
the wonderful Animal Farm. In conclusion, the Animalistic community inspired animals and

Difference Between Fundamental And Technical Analysis
Business Finance
Fundamental and technical analysis are the two methods used for researching and forecasting the
future growth trends of stocks. Fundamental analysis is defined as a method of evaluating securities
by attempting to measure the intrinsic value of a stock. Fundamental analysts study everything
from the overall economy and industry conditions to the financial condition and management of
companies. While, in turn. Technical analysisis the evaluation of securities by means of studying
statistics generated by market activity, such as past prices and volume.
Two prime example users of either method with immense notoriety and success are Warren Buffet
and George Soros. Two of the greatest investors to have walked the earth. While, George Soros
made his wealth betting on short term trends in forex markets world famous investor Warren Buffett
s wealth has been a result of his beliefs in the fundamentals of a company. Soros uses the technical
method while Warren buffet has been raking in billions for 60 years now depending on the
fundamental method. In the world of stock analysis, fundamental and technical analysis ... Show

actual operations or value of the company itself. Factors like historical share pricing, industrial

game was initially played in the St. Lawrence Valley area by the Algonquian tribe and they were
followed by other tribes in the eastern half of North America, an also around Western Great Lakes.
The Native American games were seen as major events, which took place over several days. They

The current volatile earning figures for Crown are caused due its reliance on Asian junket gamblers.
In the current business environment buyer power is high as Crown focuses on few high volume
gamblers this should be reduced, as it should concentrate on a higher numbers of smaller gamblers.
The recent increases in the gambling to HDI ratio as a result of better domestic economic
conditions should be exploited by Crown. In order to broaden its local market advertising
campaigns to lure the suburban poker machine players towards the city and away from RSL clubs
and bars should be undertaken. The recent acquisition of Crown by the media giant PBL should
ensure that Crown promotions reach a wider audience through the magazine/television business
with little cost.
The main issue for Crown in the future is to maintain a consistent rate of turn over in slot machines
and tables. This should be achieved not only through advertising moreover by offering patrons the
latest technologies and gaming programs. Once the parton numbers are increased loyalty schemes
targeting the lower end of the gaming market should be under taken to maintain the flow of
customers. Crown should better take advantage of it regional monopoly and reputation for offering
world of entertainment by hiring top rating international performers. This would not only boost
revenue to the Crown entertainment complex but to the casino as well.

My Favorite Vacation to the Last Frontier, Fairbanks,...
As a child, vacations were few and far between. Having three other siblings and a single parent,
trips rarely fit into the budget. As I got older, military service and my professional career allowed
me to travel to a variety of places. I have been to the east and west coasts, the Gulf of Mexico,
Bermuda, United Kingdom, Germany, and many places in between. However, my most memorable
trip was to Fairbanks, Alaskato visit my oldest brother Keith. While I was there the sun shined for
approximately twenty hours a day, the mosquitos were unlike anything I had ever experienced, and
we went fishing on the YukonRiver.
During the summer months in Alaska, the sun shines for about 20 hours a day. All the daylight was

Within seconds after getting out of the truck, they were all over me. I kicked a nearby bush and
hundreds of mosquitos flew out of it. My brother and his friends acted as if it was not that bad, I
guess a person can get used to anything, but I was having one of the worst experiences of my life.
Surprisingly it was not the bite of the mosquitoes, but the menacing noise and what seemed like
impending doom. Fortunately, the mosquitoes subsided once we got out on the water. Fishing on
the Yukon Riverwas sensational. We started with an hour and a half boat ride up stream to get
to our fishing destination. Even though it was the middle of summer the temperature on the
river was cold. I watched in amazement, as a bald eagle plucked a fish from the river. Even
more incredible was the shear sense of immenseness. We stopped at an inlet to the Yukon River,
and that is where we did most of our fishing. We were fishing for Northern Pike and in order to
keep them, they had to be between 32 and 46 inches in length. It seemed like everything we
caught was either under or over the legal length, but it was still fun catching them. I was so
excited about being in Alaska, on the Yukon River, and with my brother, I did not mind releasing
most of our catch. After many hours of fishing we decided we had enough for the day. Instead of
heading back to the dock to clean the fish, we filleted the fish in the middle of the river so we did
not have to get back in

The Effects Of Tolerance On Schools And Schools
Policies, at micro, mezzo, and macro levels, affect our schools and students every day and
constitute the foundation of educational standards in North American schools; to say that
students are unaffected on a micro level would be dismissive, ignorant, and narrow minded.
Additionally, disregarding existing policies and practices in educational institutions and their
potential interactions and effects with new policies and practices would be a grievous oversight
in the decision making process. Zero tolerance in schools was initially defined as consistently
enforced suspension and expulsion policies in response to weapons, drugs and violent acts in
the school setting (NASP, 2001); if anything, maintaining the safety or well being of its students
is a responsibility of the school and school district and a honorable goal to set. However, these
policies have been broadened to include any rule infraction, more or less, regardless of mistakes,
ignorance, or extenuating circumstances. With a broad policy like zero tolerance in schools
comes a broad range of intended and unintended consequences; these consequences can be positive,
negative, and possibly even affect the policy s actual or perceived effectiveness. Intended and
unintended consequences of policy The question of effectiveness of zero tolerance in schools is
complicated and multi faceted. If effectiveness is determined broadly, as it applies to multiple rules
and policies, the majority of research surrounding zero

Easily Obtainable Information
In the age of cutting edge technology such as the world in which we live, easily obtainable
information has turned out to be a mainstay in society. The days of instant gratification are upon us
and waiting for any length of time since the advent of the Internet has become unacceptable in the
technological arena. Because information is so easily available, this gives pause to security and
privacy of personal identifiable information. With headlines screaming Identity Theft the
disadvantages are clear. No longer can users post whatever they are thinking, doing, wearing, etc.
without the profound knowledge that each post is forever solidified forever on the World Wide Web
for anyone with an Internet connection to access. Those with less technological knowledge have
yet to grasp this concept and this unfortunately has caused harm to their personal lives and
professional careers, in some cases.
Advantages of Easily Obtainable Information
One point of preference of adequately realistic data is practicality. It is advantageous for individuals
to be in one place and catch the most blazing news, listen to the crisp top melodies on the
announcement diagrams, watch and share the music recordings to those tunes, while in the
meantime holding discussions through talk with various companions in a flash. It is simpler than

The Theme of Social Responsibility in Victorian England Essay
How does dickens explore the theme of social responsibility in
Victorian England?
Charles dickens wrote A Christmas Carol for a certain reason, and that reason was that he wanted
to make people aware of the terrible situation the children of the poor were in. He visited a school in
1843 and was appalled by what he saw there. It was a school for the poorest children to teach
them basic reading and writing skills. The children s employment commission had also shocked
him. At first dickens had the idea of writing a pamphlet called an appeal to the people of England
on behalf of the poor mans child but soon realised that seen as he was the most popular novelist of
the time people would take much more notice he wrote about the ... Show more content on

drunks, beggars and vagabonds of every kind to add to the everyday life of
Victorian London.
Up until the second half of the 19th century people were still drinking water from the Thames in
which raw sewage flowed into, causing several outbursts of cholera along with the great stink of
1958, the disease and sewage in the drinking water made a link with
Dr. John to find that all the victims of the cholera outbreak was connected with the same water

Before it had been burden of all the parishes to take care of the poor. The new law required that
all the parishes worked together to create regional workhouses where aid could be applied for. The
workhouse was little more than a prison for the poor.

Interpreting Medical Terminology
American Psychological Association (APA) states word choice: Make certain that every word
means exactly what you intend it mean (2010). Clarity requires written documents to have
organization that allows readers to place the information in context (Grand Canyon University
(GCU), 2013). When writing, the writer must use the correct word choice for what they are
meaning to say. The reader must be able to interpret the meaning. An example of not being able to
interpret the meaning would be using the medical terminology such as cholecystectomy when
speaking with a patient. The patient has no clue what you are talking about; but if you say
gallbladder out, they would be able to interpret the meaning. Precision is essential in scientific

So it is easy to conclude that china s economic markets are sluggish and weak, for these reasons,
China should adopt this monetary strategy to deal with these series of problems, and keeping the
healthy and steady growth in economic markets. On the other hand, China wanted to increase the
monetary (Yuan) liquidity, further, wanted Yuan to become international reserve currency. Broadly
speaking, China hoped to consolidate its central position in the global economic markets. In
conclusion, pulling the healthy and steady growth internally and pushing Chinese monetary (Yuan)

devalue Yuan.
In the short term, this depreciation action will bring varying degree of positive and negative
impact in China and Global world. In the aspect of positive impact, Chinese aggregate demand will

Aggregate demand is the total level of spending in the economy and consists of four elements:

Frederick V Vs Ferdinand II
The Law is Always Right:
Frederick V vs Ferdinand II in the Thirty Years War
The Thirty Years War that spanned most of the Holy Roman Empire drawing in most of the
European superpowers of the time started off as a much smaller rebellion in the Kingdom of
Bohemia in the east of the Empire. The Bohemian revolt started with the Defenestration of Prague
where two Catholic regents and a secretary were thrown out of a window by a group of frustrated
Protestants. The regents had been placed in control of the city by the Holy Roman Emperor and
King of Bohemia, Matthias to rule until his successor, Ferdinand of Styria, was elected to replace
him. The Protestants were frustrated because their petitions to Matthias asking ... Show more

Frederick s justification for taking the Kingship is that he was trying to restore peace and protect
the Protestants in Bohemia. He claims that the Protestants were being victimized and that if he did
not assume control in Bohemia then the blame for any more lives lost in the conflict could be
placed on him. He explains why him taking control should not be seen as a power grab in the
following quote:
Therefore we have not sought a greater elevation, nor have we tried to gain the above mentioned
crown of Bohemia by force of through any other actions, a fact to which the estates that elected us
have publicly given witness (and can continue to do so). Furthermore, given the deplorable
situation, we also had no reason to do so, but would instead have much preferred to have seen the
return of peace.
By assuring the readers of his declaration that his motives are pure Frederick negates what would
be the first argument against him. If his taking of the Kingship were to be seen as a power grab
he would have no legitimacy and would struggle to find any support. There are two key points to
the above quote. The first is that he did not force his way into the position. While this may seem
obvious there was the possibility that he was elected under threat of violence. The other is that he
would have preferred a peaceful resolution over the current

Cigarette smoking not only has a negative effect on respiratory and cardiovascular health, but also
has been associated with diabetes, gastrointestinal and thyroid diseases, and almost every other
organ system in the body (Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Linked to various cancers, smoking is
extremely detrimental (Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Smokingis also the major risk factor for
periodontitis (Preshaw et al, 2015). While increasing the prevalence of periodontitis, smoking also
has a profound effect on the severity of periodontal disease in individuals (Preshaw et al, 2015). The
third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) in 2000 found that 41.9%
of periodontitis cases in the United States were attributable to current cigarettesmoking (Tomar
Asma, 2000). Smokers have a four times greater chance to be diagnosed with periodontitis
(Johnson Guthmiller, 2007). Indeed, patients who are smokers also do not appear to respond as
favourably to periodontal treatment and show a greater risk of refractory and/or recurrent
periodontal disease (Fardal, 2008). Multiple studies show that smoking has the potential to alter
numerous processes in the oral cavity (Preshaw et al, 2015). Most notably, smoking has been
shown to modify various aspects of physiology in patients, impair immunological response and
alter the microflora of the oral cavity (Presahaw et al, 2015).... Show more content on

Wealth Distribution and William Domhoffs Wealth, Income,...
In William Domhoff s article, Wealth, Income, and Power, he examines wealth distribution in the
United States, specifically financial inequality. He concludes that the wealthiest 10% of the United
States effectively owns America, and that this is due in large part to an increase in unequal
distribution of wealthbetween 1983 and 2004. Domhoff also states that the unequal wealth
distribution is due in large part to tax cuts for the wealthy and the defeat of labor unions. Most of
Domhoff s information is accurate and includes strong, valid arguments and statements. However,
there is room for improvement when identifying the subject of what is causing the inequality.

William Domhoff s claims in the article Wealth, Income, and Power, are, for the most part, very
strong. He makes strong statements regarding the concentration of wealth in the United States, and
backs them up with good sources throughout. The statistics used are valid, and consistent among
many trusted sources. The only area where Domhoff s argument falls short is when he references
the causes of wealth inequality. In this portion, his argument is a bit weak and could be
strengthened by considering other important factors effecting wealth concentration, rather than
limiting it to two seemingly all important issues. Overall, upon examination of Domhoff s ideas and
sources, he presents an accurate and fairly strong argument about the unequal distribution of wealth
in the United States.

The Constitutionality Of The Public Accommodations Equal...
The issue being brought before the court today is the constitutionality of the Public
Accommodations Equal Access Act. In addition, it is also evident that the facts in this case raise
the issue of congressional authority. Moreover, in order for the Court to come to such a
determination, Congress justification for the passing of such an act, as well as the powers of
Congress, will be reviewed. Because the act was implemented in order to forbid discrimination
based upon sexual orientation in dining, entertainment, and lodging establishments, we must first
address whether sexual orientation is granted equal protection under the law. The federal
government is obligated by the Fifth Amendment to ensure that no person shall be deprived of life,
liberty, or property, without due process of law as well as ensuring equal protection under the law.
In order to determine whether persons are discriminated against fairly, the strict scrutiny test is
applied. Strict scrutiny is applied when a law or action inhibits a person /persons exercise of
protected First Amendment rights, fundamental rights, and when a specific suspect class is
discriminated against. Under strict scrutiny, the government must show a compelling, government
interest in order to be able to discriminate, and the act must be deemed arbitrary and irrational to be
constitutionally invalid. Nevertheless, sexual orientation does not fit in any of the three categories
protected by the Constitution. Therefore,

Music Industry And Its Influence On Modern Society
In the twenty first century, we have an abundant variety of music genres, old and new. Music has
a versatile role in modern society. Music serves just as many purposes as it possesses in genres.
For listeners, music is not simply an escape or form of entertainment; it is a source of inspiration
and self expression. Sometimes, this can be problematic and lead to false identities and music
miscegenation. The music industryhas had a powerful influence on what listeners consume. In this
process, traditional black music genres have crossed over to the mainstream. This has been
problematic in that it gives listeners the sense that the music industry is fully integrated. In reality,

This forged an identity of cultural togetherness as time progressed, but in reality, this was just a
new form of cultural appropriation and subjugation. Despite the musical politics in regards to
control, black expression has voiced itself in the past century. The innovations of jazz and gospel
music paved the way for soul, funk, disco, and rhythm blues and then expanded that pathway for
rap and hip hop in the later half of the century. Various innovations such as 12 bar blues and beat
matching can be attributed to African American culture. One genre of music that emerged from
African American roots was disco. Although disco expanded and became popularized in
mainstream culture, disco began as an expression of black and Latino power. Disco possesses
elements of Afro Cuban salsa as well as Jamaican dub, reggae, and ska. Disco served as a
versatile cultural tool for not only ethnic minorities but also gay rights activism, prior to its
adoption by white audiences and artists. There was backlash by white audiences and rock
musicians towards black disco artist heard on the radio and this lead to the coined phrase, disco

are still prevalent in today s popular music. Many of the R B and rock artists who conformed to

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dyes
1)Low water consumption and dyeing time:
With increasing concern of the energy consumption environmental issues, machines should have
made with even lower M:L ratios (lower water requirements for processing and a reduction in the
amount of effluent generated) with water recovery options and energy (heat) reuse systems. It
was expected that machines like Beam Jigger which is a combination of autoclave and jigger
machine, will reduce the dyeing time about 50%, with a similar reduction in water and energy
consumption. Electronic equipment used for automation and controlling in dyeing machines.
Brazzoli of Italy developed beam jigger machine. This open width batch dyeing machine was a
combination of autoclave and jigger. It decreases the dyeing time about 40 50% with water

to reshape and change their strategy to meet the new challenges of a global economy.
1.2Strategic position of AT T in 1994
After the divestiture of 1984 В– 1988, CEO Robert (Bob) E. Allen started to rationalise the
business. He broke up the giant functional organisation into 21 manageable business units to help
drive responsibilities and accountability. Up to 1994 Allen reorganised AT T s crown jewel to be
its core telecommuncations network and his strategy was to focus AT T s expansion only on the
areas which enhanced this core. Allen explained, Everything we are doing is designed to put more
traffic on our network, to enhance the value of our network.
With increasing competition, convergence of industries, deregulation and international trust laws,
Allen soon realised that this strategy had to change. The BU structure and strategy of 1989, did not

A Small Place By Christopher Columbus
Colonization was used as early as the 18th century to expand a particular country s territory.
Essentially it supposed to be a positive thing, expanding the territory s resources such as medicine,
and education. Jamaica Kincaid, however, plead the opposite. In her book, A Small Place, she
expounded on the after effects of colonialismon her small island, Antigua. The Island, discovered
by Christopher Columbus, is only nine by twelve miles long, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and
the Atlantic Ocean (Kincaid, 80), which has swallowed up a number of black slaves (Kincaid, 14).

Kincaid believes that the slave like structure of the government was led by colonialism. She
expressed her anger toward the colonists for colonizing the small island, turning it into England
and turning everyone they met into English (24). She writes, Have you ever wonder to yourself
why it is that all people like me seem to have learned from you is how to imprison and murder
each other, how to govern badly...? Have you ever wondered why it is that all we seem to have
learned from you is how to corrupt our societies and how to be tyrants (Kincaid, 34)? Kincaid
wanted the colonist to realize it is by their own faults and their imperfections that Antigua is in
the state that is in now. Kincaid also believed that colonialism caused the political corruption that
has defrauded Antigua of many rights, such as the right to knowledge. She believed that the
Ministers of Antigua gained knowledge to govern from the Ill mannered British who paved the
way for them (34). Throughout her book she has made it very clear that the library is an
important source of knowledge for her as it should be for other Antiguan s as well. She
reminisced on her childhoods experiences at the library as her own sacred place, a cool retreat
from the colonized world and an opening to the greater world away from the island (Byerman, 94).

Discrimination Is A Problem Since The Beginning Of Time
Discrimination has been a problem since the beginning of time. Discrimination is mentioned in
many pieces of classical literature such as Shakespeare s Othello. In this classical play the main
character Othello is never truly accepted into the Venetian society because he is a Moor from
Northern Africa. His skin color caused people to view him differently and also presented
problems when he tried to find a wife. After he eventually found and married Desdemona her
father Brabantio still did not approve of him; he said She, in spite of nature, Of years, of
country, credit, everything, To fall in love with what she feared to look on! It is a judgment
maimed and most imperfect That will confess perfection so could err Against all rules of nature
(Act I, Scene 3). Brabantio saw this love as unnatural because he believes Desdemona would never
fall in love with a black man who she was afraid to look upon. Before Othellomarried Desdemona
Brabantio saw him as an honorable leader and great man, but after their marriage he accuses him of
black magic and urges their marriage to be annulled by the Duke. This discriminationled to Othello
s doubt and self conscience attitude which, ultimately leads to his demise at the end of the play.
Discrimination continues to exist today as it did 400 years ago in Shakespeare s time. Today
people are still discriminated against and persecuted because of their raceor their religious views.

The Cause Of Juvenile Delinquency
Juvenile Delinquency has been an issue in sociological and criminological context for decades.
It is basically at state when a person who is under the age of 18 years is antisocial and has a
criminal behavior. It has become a major social problem in the youth that is attracting a lot of
youths to get into crimes. Many researches have been done to find the cause of juvenile delinquency
. Sociologists explain this context using different theories. While investigating about the cause of
juvenile delinquency theorists come up with the factors associated with it such as racial status,
gender discrimination and the economic status. Childhood assaults are also seen as one of the
factors that can be in the form of sexual abuse or physical abuse faced by the child either in their
family environment or the school environment. Peer pressure as examined by many theorists
provides a wide area for the juvenile crimes to occur. The delinquent youth lack ethical standards
and emotional feelings. Impulsivity, social insensitivity and lack of guilt feeling make them
perform socially unacceptable behavior. They lose the ability to choose what is right and what is
wrong. Juvenile delinquency rates take a rise when young people see their fellow members of
society as offenders. The way of them being viewed as criminals in the society makes them more
prone to become delinquents. The paper discusses about the cause of juvenile delinquency and the
problems that arise due to it. Later it would focus on two sociological theories that would evaluate
the criminal phenomenon.
In the criminal justice system juvenile delinquency is one of the highly rated problem. It is the
society itself that can increase the juvenile delinquency rates and on the other hand they are the
ones who can help deal this problem by reducing the crime. Among 1755 young students surveyed
in Portugal, 29.4% reported they had committed at least one offence in their life time (Cardoso,
Perista, Carrilho Silva, 2013, p. 520). The problem arises when the adolescents or young people are
unable to achieve their dreams, than they try to take the path of crime by using illegal means to
reach their expectations.

Despite the greatness that Google has brought to the world, on April 15, 2015 the European Union

concern in Google s operation: potential bias in Google s search results, scraping content from
rival websites, agreements with advertisers that may exclude rival search advertising services and
contracts that limit marketers from using other platforms . I feel that Google has the legal right to
favor its own search results over its competitors and that it is ethical for Google to use its
dominance of the search engine market to its advantage.

Choices In Black Cat, By Edgar Allen Poe
Have you ever thought about why people choose to make the choices they make? There is
controversy over if people are able to make their own choices. Almost all of the time you have
full control over your decisions. You have the ability to follow the rules if you want to and know
that there could be a good or bad consequence to what you do. An individual has the power to
choose their response in any situation. When someone tries to make a person do something, they
have the choice not to listen and retaliate. Rules are set in life and you have the power and
choice to follow them. No one is stopping you from not following them and they are only
something someone is telling you to do, not forcing you. You have the ability to resist what is put
against you and that is your choice, not someone else s. If you were not able to make your own
choices, then everyone would be following the rules, and would not have the right to speak out and

Importance Of Hatshepsut Building Programs
How important was Hatshepsut s building program? (5 Marks)
Hatshepsut s building programs played a major role in her reign as is shown through the praise
they still receive from the future generations. Hatshepsut main focus seemed to be her building
programs as she constantly refers to them. Once she acquired the role of pharaoh she started
repairing buildings that were neglected during the Hyksos occupation such as the temple of Hathor
at Cusae, a temple for Min and the temple of Thoth at Hermopolis. Her building programs consisted
of completing Thutmose II due to his short reign and constructing new buildings. Her new building
programs consisted of her mortuary temple at Deir el Bahri; the Red Chapel, obelisks and pylon at
Karnak; the barque sanctuary at Luxor and the cliff temple dedicated to the lion goddess, Pakhet at
Beni Hassan. Her building programs were important to further enhance her relationship with the
Amun Re cult. Through her buildings she reinforced her relationship with Amun, using it as

Gregor Mendel is the reason we now know why our skin is a certain color, why our eyes are

because he proved his laws. To begin with, there are two main observations Mendel made during

warbands consisting of one to five ships limited their expeditions to swift hit and run strikes on
coastal settlements and religious centers of Britain, Ireland, and France that came with little to no

the navigable rivers and estuaries of Europe to attack unguarded towns and villages and make off

An Eco Friendly Practice For Your Lawn And Garden
It seems so ridiculous that gardening would be an area where we need to be environmentally

so many chemicals tied up in gardening either to make your veggies pest free and fruitful or to

ecological impact of growing plants. Fortunately, there are ways to have it all well fertilized, bug

Fox News Equals Media Equals Fear of Death Equals Adultery Malcolm X once said The media s
the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make
the guilty innocent, and that s power. Because they control the minds of the masses. The media
reaches out to all places and affects everyone. It changes how we think and what we do. In the
novel White Noise, Don Delillo uses Babette s moral ambiguity, conveyed through her decisions
and actions, to reveal the influence that media has on the internal conflict between one s self
interest and morality.
Within everyone, there exists a constant friction between one s self interest and morality. At
first, Babette emerges as a caring and honest character. Described by Jack as a gift bearer of
great things as the world generally reckons them (5), Babette does acts of charity in her free
time. A few of her pastimes are [gathering] and [tending] the children, [teaching] a course in an
adult education program (5) and she also reads to an elderly [blind] man... from the [tabloids]
(5). Babette s honesty and sincerity is made more apparent by her foils, Jack Gladney s past
wives. Her physique, described as being slightly overweight with a head full of messy hair,
further helps her appear amiable and likeable. However, a closer look at Babette s intentions
reveals her neutral personality. She reads to [the] elderly man because why deny him? . In

Sports Discussion On Diversity
After attending the Issue in Sports Discussion on Diversity I realized many things. The main point
that I took away was that diversity in the sport community is a major issue that many people tend to
ignore. Dr. Laura Burton of the UConn Sport Management Program, Fluerette King of the Rainbow
Center and Nicole Melton of the UMASS Amherst Sport ManagementProgram all provided their
opinions on the issue of diversity in sports. They answered many highly debated questions in
relation to diversity and sport and how the two fit together. They then opened the floor to the people
in the audience for a chance to ask questions. Listening to the questions and answers was very
interesting. One comment by Dr. Laura Burton that stood out to me was that

How To Avoid Blanket Exclusions
Blanket Exclusions
The second key to success in the Texas employment law project is to eliminate blanket
exclusions. Avoiding blanket exclusions is when an employer uses specific terms such as may
not have prior conviction or must pass background check . Most employers automatically exclude
applicants on the basis of having a criminal history. It may be mandatory for some employer s to
require a background check due to a specific job position, such as working with children. We often
see that these blanket exclusions are used to discriminate against people with records. Employers
should not ask about convictions on job applications. Convictions should only be used to exclude
certain job related positions. Employers exclude applicants who ... Show more content on

An estimated twelve million Texans have a criminal record that will show up on a routine
background check. (CITE?) This creates a huge problem for a person that carries a record. The
African American and Mexican community has been affected the hardest due to over
criminalization. Many negative consequences flow from a criminal history, causing conflicts in a
person s life. When a person is released from jail or prison it is hard for them to gain fair housing,
employment, government benefits, and other resources necessary for having a productive life,
often leading a person with a record back to criminal activity. Employment is the most important
influence for decreasing recidivism. When we remove the barriers that prevent those with records
from gaining proper employment, we can give a fair chance to anyone that fills out an application.
Across the United States, more than 70 cities and counties, and numerous private businesses have
embraced the opportunity to provide fair chances during the hiring process by removing the
question on initial job applications asking about an applicant s criminal record history (CITE?). A
fair chance hiring policy would still allow for employers to perform background checks and
discuss criminal record

The Mental And Emotional Effects Of Life During The Secret...
The Mental and Emotional Effects of Life in the Secret Annexe Imagine dozens of families
being seized from their house for no particular reason, or imagine a dirty and desolate
campground with hardly any food and little to no chance of surviving. These are the horrors the
the German Nazis brought to life in the 1930 s and 1940 s, where they persecuted Jews and
forced them to work in labor camps or serve in concentration camps before being eventually killed
off via gas chambers or being shot. Anne Frankand her family are just one of many to suffer at the
hands of the Nazis, but her story is the most famous. Anne Frank and her family hid in a location
known as the Secret Annexe when the Nazis came for them, a small area behind the business
building of Anne s father s company. She and her family lived here in hiding with four other
people in hiding for nearly two years before being discovered and being sent to concentration
camps. During their stay in the annex, the living conditions of being in hiding created tension
among the people there, which changed the eight originally kind and caring people into selfish and
harsh individuals. The people of the Secret Annexe changed and warped emotionally and mentally
in a negative way as shown by the seeming hostility in the conversations between the annex
inhabitants, the selfish actions of the people in the annex, and the thoughts of the inhabitants who
try to convince themselves that they will survive the war that show how

In John 1:29 (New International Version), He is known as The Lamb of God , and many other
passages in the Bible. One of the things the author of this poem wants people to know is that
lambs are sweet and gentle. By saying that, he is also stating that God is sweet and gentle as well.
In the first stanza, the speaker asks who the lamb s creator is; however, the answer is not told
until the end of the poem. Here is where one would find a physical description of the lamb, which
is seen as a pure and gentle creature. In the second stanza, however, the lamb is compared with
baby Jesus, as well as between the lamb and the speaker s soul. In the last two lines of the poem,
the speaker identifies the creator as God. It seems that Blake asks who made thee in one of his
other poems, which is known as a companion to The Lamb, and it is called The Tiger. Blake likes
to question who could be responsible for these creations.
The speaker of the poem makes a direct reference to Jesus from the Bible in line seventeen. The
child speaker said, He became a child. Jesus, the Son of God, was sent down from Heaven to be
born of a virgin. Jesus took the form of a child because just like a lamb, they resemble innocence,
peace, and gentleness. Christ is peace, gentle, caring, complex, and simple at the same time.
Jesus is also known as a sacrificial lamb because He died on the cross for everyone s sins. John 1:
29 states, The next day John saw Jesus coming toward

A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer (Brainyquote). The
quote is letting the readers know that just because you have the title of being a hero, it does not
make you any different from a regular man. Just means you will have fame five minutes more. A
hero comes in all different ages , humanor animal , and even all shapes and sizes Hero. What does it
mean to you ? Such a simple word can have so much meaning to it. A hero can come in all
shapes, and sizes no matter how old or how young. A hero does not always have to be a human, or
have magical powers . For example in the article 6 Year Old becomes a Hero to band of Toddlers,

Phyllis Schlafly And The Feminist Movement
Equal rights has always been an apparent issue in the society of America. For centuries, women
have taken on the role as property to their husbands and have lived quiet lives under the male
control. Questionable amendments and laws such as the Equal Rights Amendment, or ERA, were
created to provide equal opportunity to both sexes. The ERA was specifically created to provided
absolute equal rights for women. Today, America is in desperate need of the Equal Rights
Amendmentdue to the lack of rights in the Constitution regarding women s rights, equal protection,
and sex discrimination. One important figure to note in the history of the feminist movement was
Phyllis Schlafly. She was known for fighting against the ERA and disagreeing with many

A Study On Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis Rhonda Abraham Maternal/Child Nursing March 20, 2015 Esha Osborne
Cystic Fibrosis It was suggested by Bush (2012) that most of the genetic related diseases are the
hardest to cure or have no cure at all. This is due to the fact that the DNA of the individuals
cannot be altered easily by modern medicine and even the most innovative medical machines
available. One of the diseases which is considered as a genetic disorder is the Cystic Fibrosis, also
called as mucoviscidosis. This is a genetically transmitted, hence hereditary, disease which affects
the internal organs of an individual primarily the lungs, pancreas, liver, kidneys, and the intestine
(Buckingham, 2012). Several decades ago, there was no available cure for ... Show more content on

This disease is considered as inherited disease mostly among Caucasians, where approximately
1000 new cases are recorded every year. Latinos and American Indians are among the races most
likely to acquire CF by genetic characters and less prevalent among African American. Statistics
from the health agencies had recorded that there are more than 10 million Americans who have
faulty CF gene carriers without them knowing it (Buckingham, 2012). Based on the Changing
Epidemiology of Cystic Fibrosis reported by Simmons (1992) in Journal of Pediatrics, he said
that from 17,857 patients treated with cystic fibrosis Foundation demonstrated a significant
shift in the age distribution of patients. The adult patient population increased and in 1990s the
median age range of patients with this disorder is 12.5 years old. Statistics revealed that among
the surveyed patients, 90% of those belong to age 12 was diagnosed with CF. Median survival
age doubled in later years from age 14 to 28 years. Females are found to have lower median
survival age than males. Etiology The main cause of cystic fibrosis is hereditary where a carrier
parents may transmit the faulty CFTR to her offspring, whereas if such gene is transferred to the
child, the latter has the chance of 25 percent of developing CF. Experts claimed that if the child
acquired the faulty CFTR gene from only one parent, say

The Sandman Essay
The location of Paul Berry s film establishes the eerie tone not just for the viewers, but also the
protagonist. Paul Berry s The Sandman focuses on a young boy s fear of the dark and the night.
The familiarity of the setting further intensified the uncanniness of situation for the child which is
nighttime in a household where the child presumably lives. Freud describes the uncanny as being
in reality nothing new or alien, but something which is familiar and old established in the mind
and which has become alienated from it only through the process of repression (Freud 13). Being
in the home is not unusual, but the boy is still anxious in the darkness. Prior to having to climb a
dark and ludicrously lengthy series of staircases to bed, the boy was comfortable in the home. The
home traditionally signifies security and safety,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shadows alert the child of a chilling presence as a warning of the Sandman s arrival. Doubles
are connected to a fear of death, in spite of being assurance for life. The moon is also a double
for the Sandman, due to their similar appearance. The moon is obviously familiar to the child, but
is warped into the face of the grotesque Sandman. The Sandman as a double represents the child s
impending death. In the scene after the credits, the child is visibly wandering the darkness
aimlessly until he freezes and is joined by similar children. These children are all without eyeballs
indicating other victims of the Sandman. The frozen motion implies the character s death due to his
unmoving body. The Sandman confines the child to his familiar fears and death ultimately follows.
Freud emphasizes, The double has become a thing of terror, just as, after the collapse of their
religion, the gods turned into demons. What was considered before as being safe and good is
morphed into something evil and vile Freud uses the German word for canny, heimlich (homely), to
further question the meaning of the uncanny which is frightening beyond being

PM10 Data Analysis Essay
The present study is an epidemiological study. We processed PM10 data by the use of Excel
software and AirQ model. This study was aimed to assess the potential effects of PM10 exposure
on prevalence of COPD. This estimation was based on caiculating relative risk (RR) and
attributable proportion (AP). Sampling was done in 4 stations in Ahvaz for measuring air
pollutants. Sampling and analysis were performed according to EPA guideline. In this study, data
from 175200 (4Г—24Г—365Г—5) air sampling during 2009 to 2013 were obtained from ADE.

It was defined as the fraction of the health outcome in a certain population attributable to exposure
to a given atmospheric pollutant. Obtained value then was multiplied by population (106). AP is
proven causative correlation between health consequences and air pollutant exposure. We used
default model that attributes cases of COPD to exposure to PM10. In addition to total cases
attributable, we could estimate the distribution of cases attributable in terms of concentration
intervals of pollutants.30 Relative risk (RR) is the ratio of the probability of the event occurring
in the exposed group versus a non exposed group. It is a measure of association between a disease
or condition and a factor under study. Relative risk is calculated by dividing the incidence rate
among those exposed to a factor by the incidence rate among those not exposed to that factor.
Population Prevented Fraction refers to situations where exposure to a factor is protective. 31 All

  • 2. Comparison of Neurological Assessment Tools Gcs Avpu and Four An assessment of the level of consciousness (LOC) should be carried out during the primary survey of all patients, using the ABCDE approach Cole (2009: 28). Any initial or subsequent reduction in the LOC of the patient may be caused by hypoxia; hypovolaemia; head injury; drug or medicine use; hypoglycaemia; hypothermia or alcohol ingestion (Cole, 2009:44). An assessment of the LOC of the patient is vital for an accurate pain assessment and the administration of analgesia, and the subsequent assessment of its efficacy (Rose, et al. 2011). Regular evaluation of a patient s LOC helps detect the onset of hypothermia and hypovolaemia. Muehlberger, et al. (2010) state that the development of pre hospital hypothermia is a directly negative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Staff assessing these patients found themselves recording GCS scores lower than what they felt was appropriate. Since the GCS became widely adopted and its use became expanded beyond the original intention of the scale, certain additional limitations have been identified (Laureys, 2005). Verbal responses become difficult or impossible to assess when patients have been sedated or intubated (Majerus, 2005). Some clinicians feel that scoring eye opening is not sufficient to indicate brainstem arousal and a number of coma scales have been proposed that include brainstem reflexes, most of them more complex than the GCS scale (Majerus, 2005). The Glasgow LiГЁge scale is the simplest variation proposed (Born, et al., 1982). It combines the GCS with five brainstem reflexes, but has not been widely implemented outside Belgium, its country of origin (Laureys, 2005). Finally, the remaining weaknesses of the GCS scale relate to the assessment of comatose patients. The GCS becomes unreliable in ongoing care for monitoring coma and recovery through vegetative or minimally conscious states, before returning to consciousness (Laureys, 2005). The main advantage of the GCS is its simplicity, allowing it to be utilised by the full range of clinicians, with a minimal amount of training (Matis, 2008). Rapid Assessment Tools (AVPU and ACDU) More recently, early warning systems have been developed in an effort to recognise the at risk patient who may be deteriorating ... • 3. Literary Group in British Poetry The history of English poetry stretches from the middle of the 7th century to the present day. Over this period, English poets have written some of the most enduring poems in Western culture, and the language and its poetry have spread around the globe. Consequently, the term English poetry is unavoidably ambiguous. It can mean poetrywritten in England, or poetry written in the English language. The earliest surviving poetry was likely transmitted orally and then written down in versions that do not now survive; thus, dating the earliest poetry remains difficult and often controversial. The earliest surviving manuscripts date from the 10th century. Poetry written in Latin, Brythonic (a predecessor language of Welsh) and Old Irish survives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the poetry that has survived is limited in volume, it is wide in breadth. Beowulf is the only heroic epic to have survived in its entirety, but fragments of others such as Waldere and the Finnesburg Fragment show that it was not unique in its time. Other genres include much religious verse, from devotional works to biblical paraphrase; elegies such as The Wanderer, The Seafarer, and The Ruin (often taken to be a description of the ruins of Bath); and numerous proverbs, riddles, and charms. With one notable exception (Rhyming Poem), Anglo Saxon poetry depends on alliterative verse for its structure and any rhyme included is merely ornamental. [edit]The Anglo Norman period and the Later Middle Ages See also: Anglo Norman literature With the Norman conquest of England, beginning in 1111 the Anglo Saxon language rapidly diminished as a written literary language. The new aristocracy spoke French, and this became the standard language of courts, parliament, and polite society. As the invaders integrated, their language and literature mingled with that of the natives: the French dialect of the upper classes became Anglo Norman, and Anglo Saxon underwent a gradual transition into Middle English. While Anglo Norman or Latin was preferred for high culture, English literature by no means died out, and a number of important works illustrate the development of the language. Around the turn of the 13th century, Layamon wrote his Brut, based on Wace s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Call Out My Name Monologue While the EP only runs for 22 minutes, the first 15 minutes I spent listening to the project I found myself playing Call Out My Name over and over. The vocal performance on the song gave me the same feeling of the hurt and pain that we heard in 2011 with The Knowing . While Abel has given us multiple songs over the years to put us in our feelings, this is one of the few times in which you can genuinely hear the pain in his voice. For the few of you who actually paid attention to his relationship with Selena Gomez, you ll know that she was diagnosed with Lupus and needed a kidney transplant to survive. The Weeknd says in the song, I said I didn t feel nothing baby, but I lied, I almost cut a piece of myself for your life referencing him attempting to be a donor.... • 5. Comparing the Journeys of Hesse s Siddhartha and Gandhi Essay Siddhartha and Gandhi strove for different goals during their lives. Siddhartha s goal was very personal, while Gandhi s goal encompassed the world. This was shown by their spiritual development throughout their journeys. Siddhartha evolved from an inexperienced spiritual being to a man, returned to spirituality, and ended with nirvana. Gandhi traveled a much straighter path, originally being a worldly man merely seeking his correct place in life, when his spiritual development unexpectedly produced a great world leader; in Gandhi s own words, a politician trying to be a saint. Siddhartha and Gandhi s main goals were always different, but they traveled similar paths at times. Siddhartha s goal was to find nirvana. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Siddhartha accordingly sought to lose himself, but only succeeded in returning to himself. At this point, Siddhartha, the self centered thinker, re evaluated his path to nirvana. He came to the conclusion that all teachings were useless, that he would have to find his own way to the state of higher being. He expressed this to the Samanas, and to the Illustrious One, Buddha, whose teachings his faithful shadow, Govinda, accepted. To nobody, O Illustrious One, can you communicate in words and teachings what happened to you in your hour of enlightenment (Hesse 34). At this point, Siddhartha rejected all doctrines and teachings, believing experience to be the only true teacher, and set off on his quest again. Free of all thought and all connections but of those to himself, Siddhartha crossed a river, and entered the town. Here was where Siddhartha gained the experience he had never before had. He believed himself to have no teacher of doctrines or wisdom, but Kamala, the courtesan, and Kamaswami, the merchant, eroded his morals and all the wisdom he had learned from other s lips, as they taught him how to sin, how to lust for women, wine, possessions, and money. Siddhartha became a man, and eventually forgot his goal of spiritual nirvana, gradually replacing it with a more common goal; worldly nirvana, fashioned of wealth and other material pleasures. In the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, rebellion shows itself through strong idealism, word of mouth(snout), and other communities belief systems. Old Major has an groundbreaking idea that he thinks will give the animals freedom and the animals like the idea. Old Major says, Rebellion! • 10. My Favorite Vacation to the Last Frontier, Fairbanks,... As a child, vacations were few and far between. Having three other siblings and a single parent, trips rarely fit into the budget. As I got older, military service and my professional career allowed me to travel to a variety of places. I have been to the east and west coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, Bermuda, United Kingdom, Germany, and many places in between. However, my most memorable trip was to Fairbanks, Alaskato visit my oldest brother Keith. While I was there the sun shined for approximately twenty hours a day, the mosquitos were unlike anything I had ever experienced, and we went fishing on the YukonRiver. Within seconds after getting out of the truck, they were all over me. I kicked a nearby bush and hundreds of mosquitos flew out of it. My brother and his friends acted as if it was not that bad, I guess a person can get used to anything, but I was having one of the worst experiences of my life. Surprisingly it was not the bite of the mosquitoes, but the menacing noise and what seemed like impending doom. Fortunately, the mosquitoes subsided once we got out on the water. Fishing on the Yukon Riverwas sensational. We started with an hour and a half boat ride up stream to get to our fishing destination. Even though it was the middle of summer the temperature on the river was cold. I watched in amazement, as a bald eagle plucked a fish from the river. Even more incredible was the shear sense of immenseness. We stopped at an inlet to the Yukon River, and that is where we did most of our fishing. We were fishing for Northern Pike and in order to keep them, they had to be between 32 and 46 inches in length. It seemed like everything we caught was either under or over the legal length, but it was still fun catching them. I was so excited about being in Alaska, on the Yukon River, and with my brother, I did not mind releasing most of our catch. After many hours of fishing we decided we had enough for the day. • 11. The Effects Of Tolerance On Schools And Schools Policies, at micro, mezzo, and macro levels, affect our schools and students every day and constitute the foundation of educational standards in North American schools; to say that students are unaffected on a micro level would be dismissive, ignorant, and narrow minded. Additionally, disregarding existing policies and practices in educational institutions and their potential interactions and effects with new policies and practices would be a grievous oversight in the decision making process. Zero tolerance in schools was initially defined as consistently enforced suspension and expulsion policies in response to weapons, drugs and violent acts in the school setting (NASP, 2001); if anything, maintaining the safety or well being of its students is a responsibility of the school and school district and a honorable goal to set. However, these policies have been broadened to include any rule infraction, more or less, regardless of mistakes, ignorance, or extenuating circumstances. With a broad policy like zero tolerance in schools comes a broad range of intended and unintended consequences; these consequences can be positive, negative, and possibly even affect the policy s actual or perceived effectiveness. Intended and unintended consequences of policy The question of effectiveness of zero tolerance in schools is complicated and multi faceted. If effectiveness is determined broadly, as it applies to multiple rules and policies, the majority of research surrounding zero ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The days of instant gratification are upon us and waiting for any length of time since the advent of the Internet has become unacceptable in the technological arena. Because information is so easily available, this gives pause to security and privacy of personal identifiable information. With headlines screaming Identity Theft the disadvantages are clear. No longer can users post whatever they are thinking, doing, wearing, etc. without the profound knowledge that each post is forever solidified forever on the World Wide Web for anyone with an Internet connection to access. Those with less technological knowledge have yet to grasp this concept and this unfortunately has caused harm to their personal lives and professional careers, in some cases. Charles dickens wrote A Christmas Carol for a certain reason, and that reason was that he wanted to make people aware of the terrible situation the children of the poor were in. He visited a school in 1843 and was appalled by what he saw there. It was a school for the poorest children to teach them basic reading and writing skills. The children s employment commission had also shocked him. There were pickpockets, prostitutes, drunks, beggars and vagabonds of every kind to add to the everyday life of Victorian London. Up until the second half of the 19th century people were still drinking water from the Thames in which raw sewage flowed into, causing several outbursts of cholera along with the great stink of 1958, the disease and sewage in the drinking water made a link with Dr. John to find that all the victims of the cholera outbreak was connected with the same water pump. Clarity requires written documents to have organization that allows readers to place the information in context (Grand Canyon University (GCU), 2013). When writing, the writer must use the correct word choice for what they are meaning to say. The reader must be able to interpret the meaning. An example of not being able to interpret the meaning would be using the medical terminology such as cholecystectomy when speaking with a patient. Broadly speaking, China hoped to consolidate its central position in the global economic markets. In conclusion, pulling the healthy and steady growth internally and pushing Chinese monetary (Yuan) circulate in the international economic market, externally are the two key factors drove China to devalue Yuan. Frederick V Vs Ferdinand II The Law is Always Right: Frederick V vs Ferdinand II in the Thirty Years War The Thirty Years War that spanned most of the Holy Roman Empire drawing in most of the European superpowers of the time started off as a much smaller rebellion in the Kingdom of Bohemia in the east of the Empire. The Bohemian revolt started with the Defenestration of Prague where two Catholic regents and a secretary were thrown out of a window by a group of frustrated Protestants. The regents had been placed in control of the city by the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia, Matthias to rule until his successor, Ferdinand of Styria, was elected to replace him. The Protestants were frustrated because their petitions to Matthias asking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Frederick s justification for taking the Kingship is that he was trying to restore peace and protect the Protestants in Bohemia. He claims that the Protestants were being victimized and that if he did not assume control in Bohemia then the blame for any more lives lost in the conflict could be placed on him. He explains why him taking control should not be seen as a power grab in the following quote: Therefore we have not sought a greater elevation, nor have we tried to gain the above mentioned crown of Bohemia by force of through any other actions, a fact to which the estates that elected us have publicly given witness (and can continue to do so). Furthermore, given the deplorable situation, we also had no reason to do so, but would instead have much preferred to have seen the return of peace. By assuring the readers of his declaration that his motives are pure Frederick negates what would be the first argument against him. If his taking of the Kingship were to be seen as a power grab he would have no legitimacy and would struggle to find any support. There are two key points to the above quote. The first is that he did not force his way into the position. While this may seem obvious there was the possibility that he was elected under threat of violence. The other is that he would have preferred a peaceful resolution over the current ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While increasing the prevalence of periodontitis, smoking also has a profound effect on the severity of periodontal disease in individuals (Preshaw et al, 2015). The third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) in 2000 found that 41.9% of periodontitis cases in the United States were attributable to current cigarettesmoking (Tomar Asma, 2000). Indeed, patients who are smokers also do not appear to respond as favourably to periodontal treatment and show a greater risk of refractory and/or recurrent periodontal disease (Fardal, 2008). Multiple studies show that smoking has the potential to alter numerous processes in the oral cavity (Preshaw et al, 2015). He makes strong statements regarding the concentration of wealth in the United States, and backs them up with good sources throughout. The statistics used are valid, and consistent among many trusted sources. The only area where Domhoff s argument falls short is when he references the causes of wealth inequality. In this portion, his argument is a bit weak and could be strengthened by considering other important factors effecting wealth concentration, rather than limiting it to two seemingly all important issues. Overall, upon examination of Domhoff s ideas and sources, he presents an accurate and fairly strong argument about the unequal distribution of wealth in the United States. 1 Edward N. Wolff. In addition, it is also evident that the facts in this case raise the issue of congressional authority. Moreover, in order for the Court to come to such a determination, Congress justification for the passing of such an act, as well as the powers of Congress, will be reviewed. Because the act was implemented in order to forbid discrimination based upon sexual orientation in dining, entertainment, and lodging establishments, we must first address whether sexual orientation is granted equal protection under the law. The federal government is obligated by the Fifth Amendment to ensure that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law as well as ensuring equal protection under the law. In order to determine whether persons are discriminated against fairly, the strict scrutiny test is applied. Strict scrutiny is applied when a law or action inhibits a person /persons exercise of protected First Amendment rights, fundamental rights, and when a specific suspect class is discriminated against. Discrimination is mentioned in many pieces of classical literature such as Shakespeare s Othello. In this classical play the main character Othello is never truly accepted into the Venetian society because he is a Moor from Northern Africa. His skin color caused people to view him differently and also presented problems when he tried to find a wife. After he eventually found and married Desdemona her father Brabantio still did not approve of him; he said She, in spite of nature, Of years, of country, credit, everything, To fall in love with what she feared to look on! It is a judgment maimed and most imperfect That will confess perfection so could err Against all rules of nature (Act I, Scene 3). Before Othellomarried Desdemona Brabantio saw him as an honorable leader and great man, but after their marriage he accuses him of black magic and urges their marriage to be annulled by the Duke. This discriminationled to Othello s doubt and self conscience attitude which, ultimately leads to his demise at the end of the play. • 33. The Cause Of Juvenile Delinquency Juvenile Delinquency has been an issue in sociological and criminological context for decades. It is basically at state when a person who is under the age of 18 years is antisocial and has a criminal behavior. It has become a major social problem in the youth that is attracting a lot of youths to get into crimes. Many researches have been done to find the cause of juvenile delinquency . Sociologists explain this context using different theories. While investigating about the cause of juvenile delinquency theorists come up with the factors associated with it such as racial status, gender discrimination and the economic status. Childhood assaults are also seen as one of the factors that can be in the form of sexual abuse or physical abuse faced by the child either in their family environment or the school environment. Peer pressure as examined by many theorists provides a wide area for the juvenile crimes to occur. The delinquent youth lack ethical standards and emotional feelings. Impulsivity, social insensitivity and lack of guilt feeling make them perform socially unacceptable behavior. They lose the ability to choose what is right and what is wrong. Juvenile delinquency rates take a rise when young people see their fellow members of society as offenders. The way of them being viewed as criminals in the society makes them more prone to become delinquents. The paper discusses about the cause of juvenile delinquency and the problems that arise due to it. Later it would focus on two sociological theories that would evaluate the criminal phenomenon. In the criminal justice system juvenile delinquency is one of the highly rated problem. It is the society itself that can increase the juvenile delinquency rates and on the other hand they are the ones who can help deal this problem by reducing the crime. Among 1755 young students surveyed in Portugal, 29.4% reported they had committed at least one offence in their life time (Cardoso, Perista, Carrilho Silva, 2013, p. 520). Mendel was a well educated man who gravitated towards physics and math. His research was conducted over roughly 10 years(Gregor MendelBotanist, Scientist Biography.com. (n.d.). Retrieved October 24, 2016, from http://www.biography.com/people/gregor mendel 39282#!). Gregor Mendel is the reason we now know why our skin is a certain color, why our eyes are brown or blue, and why we share similarities with our parents. Mendel s experiments are relevant because he proved his laws. To begin with, there are two main observations Mendel made during his experiments. The first thing he learned was that traits are inherited as discrete units, meaning the differences are clear to the naked eye. He also discovered what is now called the Law of Segregation or Mendel s first law,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eyes have distinct features like eye shape and color. Brown eye color is dominant to blue eye color which is recessive and green, but blue is recessive to green which is dominant. Based off the genotype of a man and a woman that can have several different outcomes. Brown will always be dominant if every case but if a person has the genotype Bb and another has bb the ratio of your offspring is two to two. This example shows the relevance of Mendel s study because it shows in depth how a person can end up with blue eyes even when both parents are brown eyes their genotypes can be heterozygous for brown and blue.(Understanding Genetics. (Hansen 2016) The accumulating peat thus increased the deposition of bog iron and available supplies for Vikings to then transform into the spears, axes, swords, helmets, and armor that they needed to conduct extensive raiding of settlements and battle effectively against larger European forces. More importantly, Scandinavia s iron resources enabled the creation and widespread adoption of shipbuilding technologies that facilitated territorial expansion overseas, in particular the infamous Viking longship. No other ruling power could match in number or tactical effectiveness the unstoppable tide of Viking ships that flooded Europe after the attack on Lindisfarne. (Jones 1984) Saint Alcuin himself expressed his surprise that such an inroad from the sea could be made and no one at the time could fully comprehend just how devastating Viking attacks would prove to be. Early warbands consisting of one to five ships limited their expeditions to swift hit and run strikes on coastal settlements and religious centers of Britain, Ireland, and France that came with little to no warning. (Carroll 2014) The longship s contoured hull and shallow draught made it the perfect landing craft since Vikings could sail straight into low lying harbors and onto beaches for immediate disembarking, taking inhabitants by surprise and minimizing the chance of armed resistance. (Marsden 1995) Inland areas were not safe either; Viking ships traveled extensively up the navigable rivers and estuaries of Europe to attack unguarded towns and villages and make off with captured plunder before any force could be raised to stop them. The success of these small Viking parties lay in their speed of movement and the surprise of their onslaught against larger numbers, advantages they owed to the superior versatility of the longship. • 41. An Eco Friendly Practice For Your Lawn And Garden It seems so ridiculous that gardening would be an area where we need to be environmentally conscious. After all, if you are growing green things, it should be an eco friendly practice by default, shouldn t it? Unfortunately, mostly for the sake of modern convenience, there are now so many chemicals tied up in gardening either to make your veggies pest free and fruitful or to make certain your flowers are weed free and extra large that we almost negate the positive ecological impact of growing plants. Fortunately, there are ways to have it all well fertilized, bug less plants, and a clear, green conscience. All you need to do is use all natural, environmentally sound products for your lawn and garden. The first product you want to check out is a little thing called diatomaceous earth. Frankly, it has so many benefits, it is almost like cheating. It is both a pest control agent and a growth medium, and it retains water and nutrients, while assisting with drainage. The primary drawbacks are the potential for harm to helpful insects and the dangers of inhalation, depending on which type you buy (though these are no different than the risks with chemical insecticides). If you visit your local nursery or big box home improvement store, they should be able to help you find some easily. It may sound like a joke, but if you are looking for natural, eco friendly fertilizer with little or no odor, TerraCycle s Worm Poop does an excellent job and you can feel good about it for ... Kevin Wang Thurtle AP Literature August 25, 2014 Fox News Equals Media Equals Fear of Death Equals Adultery Malcolm X once said The media s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that s power. Because they control the minds of the masses. The media reaches out to all places and affects everyone. It changes how we think and what we do. In the novel White Noise, Don Delillo uses Babette s moral ambiguity, conveyed through her decisions and actions, to reveal the influence that media has on the internal conflict between one s self interest and morality. Within everyone, there exists a constant friction between one s self interest and morality. At first, Babette emerges as a caring and honest character. The main point that I took away was that diversity in the sport community is a major issue that many people tend to ignore. Dr. Laura Burton of the UConn Sport Management Program, Fluerette King of the Rainbow Center and Nicole Melton of the UMASS Amherst Sport ManagementProgram all provided their opinions on the issue of diversity in sports. They answered many highly debated questions in relation to diversity and sport and how the two fit together. They then opened the floor to the people in the audience for a chance to ask questions. • 44. How To Avoid Blanket Exclusions Blanket Exclusions The second key to success in the Texas employment law project is to eliminate blanket exclusions. Avoiding blanket exclusions is when an employer uses specific terms such as may not have prior conviction or must pass background check . Most employers automatically exclude applicants on the basis of having a criminal history. It may be mandatory for some employer s to require a background check due to a specific job position, such as working with children. We often see that these blanket exclusions are used to discriminate against people with records. Employers should not ask about convictions on job applications. Convictions should only be used to exclude certain job related positions. Employers exclude applicants who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An estimated twelve million Texans have a criminal record that will show up on a routine background check. (CITE?) This creates a huge problem for a person that carries a record. The African American and Mexican community has been affected the hardest due to over criminalization. Many negative consequences flow from a criminal history, causing conflicts in a person s life. When a person is released from jail or prison it is hard for them to gain fair housing, employment, government benefits, and other resources necessary for having a productive life, often leading a person with a record back to criminal activity. Employment is the most important influence for decreasing recidivism. When we remove the barriers that prevent those with records from gaining proper employment, we can give a fair chance to anyone that fills out an application. Across the United States, more than 70 cities and counties, and numerous private businesses have embraced the opportunity to provide fair chances during the hiring process by removing the question on initial job applications asking about an applicant s criminal record history (CITE?). A fair chance hiring policy would still allow for employers to perform background checks and discuss criminal record ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Mental and Emotional Effects of Life in the Secret Annexe Imagine dozens of families being seized from their house for no particular reason, or imagine a dirty and desolate campground with hardly any food and little to no chance of surviving. These are the horrors the the German Nazis brought to life in the 1930 s and 1940 s, where they persecuted Jews and forced them to work in labor camps or serve in concentration camps before being eventually killed off via gas chambers or being shot. Anne Frankand her family are just one of many to suffer at the hands of the Nazis, but her story is the most famous. Anne Frank and her family hid in a location known as the Secret Annexe when the Nazis came for them, a small area behind the business building of Anne s father s company. She and her family lived here in hiding with four other people in hiding for nearly two years before being discovered and being sent to concentration camps. During their stay in the annex, the living conditions of being in hiding created tension among the people there, which changed the eight originally kind and caring people into selfish and harsh individuals. The people of the Secret Annexe changed and warped emotionally and mentally in a negative way as shown by the seeming hostility in the conversations between the annex inhabitants, the selfish actions of the people in the annex, and the thoughts of the inhabitants who try to convince themselves that they will survive the war that show how ... In John 1:29 (New International Version), He is known as The Lamb of God , and many other passages in the Bible. One of the things the author of this poem wants people to know is that lambs are sweet and gentle. By saying that, he is also stating that God is sweet and gentle as well. In the first stanza, the speaker asks who the lamb s creator is; however, the answer is not told until the end of the poem. Here is where one would find a physical description of the lamb, which is seen as a pure and gentle creature. In the second stanza, however, the lamb is compared with baby Jesus, as well as between the lamb and the speaker s soul. In the last two lines of the poem, the speaker identifies the creator as God. It seems that Blake asks who made thee in one of his other poems, which is known as a companion to The Lamb, and it is called The Tiger. Blake likes to question who could be responsible for these creations. The speaker of the poem makes a direct reference to Jesus from the Bible in line seventeen. The child speaker said, He became a child. Jesus, the Son of God, was sent down from Heaven to be born of a virgin. Jesus took the form of a child because just like a lamb, they resemble innocence, peace, and gentleness. Christ is peace, gentle, caring, complex, and simple at the same time. Jesus is also known as a sacrificial lamb because He died on the cross for everyone s sins. John 1: 29 states, The next day John saw Jesus coming toward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Study On Cystic Fibrosis Cystic Fibrosis Rhonda Abraham Maternal/Child Nursing March 20, 2015 Esha Osborne Cystic Fibrosis It was suggested by Bush (2012) that most of the genetic related diseases are the hardest to cure or have no cure at all. This is due to the fact that the DNA of the individuals cannot be altered easily by modern medicine and even the most innovative medical machines available. One of the diseases which is considered as a genetic disorder is the Cystic Fibrosis, also called as mucoviscidosis. Latinos and American Indians are among the races most likely to acquire CF by genetic characters and less prevalent among African American. Statistics from the health agencies had recorded that there are more than 10 million Americans who have faulty CF gene carriers without them knowing it (Buckingham, 2012). Based on the Changing Epidemiology of Cystic Fibrosis reported by Simmons (1992) in Journal of Pediatrics, he said that from 17,857 patients treated with cystic fibrosis Foundation demonstrated a significant shift in the age distribution of patients. The adult patient population increased and in 1990s the median age range of patients with this disorder is 12.5 years old. Statistics revealed that among the surveyed patients, 90% of those belong to age 12 was diagnosed with CF. Median survival age doubled in later years from age 14 to 28 years. Females are found to have lower median survival age than males. Etiology The main cause of cystic fibrosis is hereditary where a carrier parents may transmit the faulty CFTR to her offspring, whereas if such gene is transferred to the child, the latter has the chance of 25 percent of developing CF. • 50. The Sandman Essay The location of Paul Berry s film establishes the eerie tone not just for the viewers, but also the protagonist. Paul Berry s The Sandman focuses on a young boy s fear of the dark and the night. The familiarity of the setting further intensified the uncanniness of situation for the child which is nighttime in a household where the child presumably lives. Freud describes the uncanny as being in reality nothing new or alien, but something which is familiar and old established in the mind and which has become alienated from it only through the process of repression (Freud 13). Being in the home is not unusual, but the boy is still anxious in the darkness. Prior to having to climb a dark and ludicrously lengthy series of staircases to bed, the boy was comfortable in the home. The home traditionally signifies security and safety,... Doubles are connected to a fear of death, in spite of being assurance for life. The moon is also a double for the Sandman, due to their similar appearance. The moon is obviously familiar to the child, but is warped into the face of the grotesque Sandman. The Sandman as a double represents the child s impending death. In the scene after the credits, the child is visibly wandering the darkness aimlessly until he freezes and is joined by similar children. These children are all without eyeballs indicating other victims of the Sandman. The frozen motion implies the character s death due to his unmoving body. The Sandman confines the child to his familiar fears and death ultimately follows. Freud emphasizes, The double has become a thing of terror, just as, after the collapse of their religion, the gods turned into demons. What was considered before as being safe and good is morphed into something evil and vile Freud uses the German word for canny, heimlich (homely), to further question the meaning of the uncanny which is frightening beyond being ... In addition to total cases attributable, we could estimate the distribution of cases attributable in terms of concentration intervals of pollutants.30 Relative risk (RR) is the ratio of the probability of the event occurring in the exposed group versus a non exposed group. It is a measure of association between a disease or condition and a factor under study. Relative risk is calculated by dividing the incidence rate among those exposed to a factor by the incidence rate among those not exposed to that factor.
