The story follows a father taking care of his 9-year-old son Schatz who has a fever of 102 degrees. Schatz becomes worried after hearing at school in France that a temperature over 44 will cause death. Throughout the day his fever does not rise above 102 and his father reassures him, but Schatz anxiously awaits death. Finally, the father explains to Schatz that the thermometer used is Fahrenheit not Celsius, so his temperature is actually normal. Relieved, Schatz's worries fade away.
