new significant benefit of exercises, especially to patients with
bone and hip problems. The company has announced that hip
replacement recall costs $3 billion quarterly, as was reported by

 In April 2011, this study presented that hip replacement
surgeries can be delayed and prevented by exercising. The study
was funded by the Norwegian Foundation for Health and
Rehabilitation, the Norwegian Rheumatism Association, and the
South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority.
A three-month exercise program shown to have significantly
delayed and might even prevented hip replacements. This was
done in a Norwegian randomized, controlled trial.

3.  To determine the countdown to total hip replacement in
osteoarthritis patients was the purpose of the study. The 109
patients were between 40-80 years old who had mild to moderate
hip pains and were not yet qualified for hip surgery. They
participated in the exercise program. The participants were
grouped into two.
 While one group gone through both supervised exercise program
and patient education, the other group just had patient education.
The participants had three 90-minute educational discussions
where they were encouraged to stay active even though they feel
minor pains.

4.  In the first six years after the exercise program, 40% of the patients (22)
underwent a hip replacement. Meanwhile, in the control group, 31 patients
(57%) had their artificial hip during the follow-up period.
 Also, the exercise patients had significantly less pain and better mobility, not
only in the spring 2011 but also during the earlier follow-up points.
 Researcher Dr. Linda Fernandes said that ”if you exercise early” in the
course of the disease, ”maybe you can prevent surgery long-term.” Dr.
Fernandes is a physiotherapist at Diakonhjemmet Hospital in Oslo.
 ”But that is just a theory. We can’t really say anything about cause and effect
here,” she added.

5.  She further said that the next best step would be a larger randomized trial. Hence, in the
meantime the research team is analyzing patients’ biomechanics to evaluate if they
correlate with the results of the study.
 This new information is most especially significant to osteoarthritis patients who
suffered from defective artificial hip devices namely DePuy Pinnacle Hip Replacement
System manufactured by Johnsons & Johnsons (J&J).
 J&J faces a number of lawsuits amid allegations that DePuy metal-on-metal hip is prone
to premature failure. In the mean time, the DePuy multidistrict litigation involves
hundreds of cases and more DePuy lawsuit is expected to be filed in the coming months.
Hence, those who experience any doubts and concerns about their hip surgery should
immediately consult a doctor on their health condition. Moreover, they should seek
legal advice to find out if their situation qualifies them for medical compensation.
According to legal observers, the DePuy hip replacement recall should serve as a lesson
to other device manufacturers to strengthen and certify the safety of their products.

prematurely, J&J now faces a number of lawsuits, according to

Litigation contains hundred of cases. Expectedly, more DePuy
lawsuit is going to be filed in the coming months. The DePuy hip
