Hostility Towards Transgender Students
One of the most complex and diverse populations of people are those categorized as transgender.
These people are very often the subject of intense scrutiny, discrimination, ostracism, verbal
harassment and even physical assault. These responses to a transgendered person often stems from
a lack of understanding, confusion, fear, and anxiety when interacting with these people. In order to
understand why people are so unsettled when in the presence of a transgenderindividual, it is
essential to fully understand the term transgender.
The American Psychological Association published a Question and Answer pamphlet (2014) to
help the public understand the Transgender population in America. The APA defines the term
transgender as an umbrella term for persons whose gender identity, gender expression, or
behavior does not conform to that typically associated with the sex which they assigned at birth
(p. 1) They go on to explain the differences between gender identity and gender expression.
Gender identity is the person s internal sense of being male, female, or something else (p. 1).
Gender Expression refers to the way a person communicates gender identity to others through their
behavior, clothing, hairstyles, voice, and/or body characteristics (p. 1). The term transsexual is
defined as people whose gender identity is different from their assigned sex (p. 1). Many of these
transsexual individuals will choose to alter their physical biology through hormone replacement

The Marketing Mix Of Pepsi
Marketing Mix of Coca Cola and Pepsi
One of the fiercest battles between brands through the years is the battle between Coke and Pepsi.
How effectively these brands market their products determine their market share. We learned in our
lesson that a brands marketing strategy is comprised several components called a marketing mix.
The marketing mix is composed of four areas; product, price, placement and promotion. Through
many years of success and failure these brands are ripe with illustrations of marketing successes
and failures. It is my desire to draw from these examples and describe each brands marketing mix.
Let s start with PepsiCo.
Product in the PepsiCo marketing mix
The marketing mix of PepsiCo (4P) is aimed at its wide range of products which have evolved
over time. This is mostly due to acquisitions of companies with different products bringing them
all together under the PepsiCo brand. Many of PepsiCo s current brands and products have been
added to the product mix via acquisitions. For example, snack products were added after Pepsi
Cola acquired Frito Lay in 1965 forming a new company PepsiCo (Our History). Because it is a
global company the differences between the markets also require changes to the marketing mix in
each of its target markets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The places of distribution and sale are considered in this element of the marketing mix. Coke
distributes its products through retail stores and wholesalers. Most Coke products are available
from retailers, such as supermarkets, grocery stores and convenience stores. Coke also sells

products at soda fountains or by the glass at restaurants. For a time most of the bottlers were
company owned but the company is refranchising all of their bottling operations (Five Strategic

Crossing The Border Argumentative Essay
America: land of the free and home of the brave. For generations children have been raised from a
young age to value these morals that the United States stands for. American values have long been
seen as the ray of hope for millions of people around the globe. Immigrants from every imaginable
culture flood to the United Stateseach year, possessing only the tattered dreams of a better life.
But do we truly live up to this grand title we have claimed for hundreds of years? Instead of
offering freedom to all who seek it, we now cower behind false stereotypes and grant it only to
those luck few who we deem worthy. While unrestricted immigration into the United States is not
probable, the proposed extensive immigration policies that target specific races or religions are

It is true that uncontrolled immigration is not a possibility for the United States due to the limited
amount of resources available. The land, labor, and agriculture available to inhabitants of the
country are already sometimes in scarce quantity. Today, millions of hopeful individuals continue
to flee to the United States, both legally and illegally, in pursuit of a better life and to escape from
their oppressive home nations. According to Crossing the Border , written by Emily Barone, the
total foreign born population in the United States, in the year 2016, was 43.6 million people.
Desperate to reach the protection of the United States, immigrants may ignore the legal proceedings
of receiving visas before entering the country. In 2007, there was a peak of 12.2 million illegal
immigrants in the United States (Barone). Strict laws have been enforced in recent years to try to
combat the amount of undocumented aliens that both enter and remain in the country. Prejudicial
actions have been taken regarding the decision on which groups are accepted, denied, or detained.
While some ethnicities are allowed into the United States with little

The Meaning Behind Seeing By Raymond Carver
The Meaning Behind Seeing In the short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver, there is a very
insightful message spoken about the true definitions between having sight and being able to see.
The story focuses on three characters, and they each have emotions connected to one another,
whether it be trust, jealousy or compassion. These characters include a blind man named Robert,
the narratorwho is unnamed in the story, and his wife who also does not receive a name for the
story line. Each of these characters have been through a series of obstacles which are clearly stated
in the short story. Some of the difficulties, however, need to be interpreted in between the lines,
such as the narrator s alcoholism issues and marital problems with the narrator and his wife.
Quite a few of the difficulties the characters come across in Cathedral , were based off of the
painful life Carver lived. When Carver was asked if his life moments were inspiration for his
collection of stories his answer was, None of my stories really happened, of course... but there s
always something, some element, something said to me or that I witnessed, that may be a starting
place (Caldwell n.pg. 17). From Cathedral the audience can become aware that ...Carver weaves
into Cathedral a narrativeof alcoholism, from addiction and alienation to bitter self awareness and
then, sometimes, a legitimate hope of recovery (Messer n.pg. 4). This meaning, Carver wrote

Essay about Bach s Life and Music
Bach s Life and Music He was a musical genius with thousands of musical compositions written
in his lifetime. He spent his life in Germany, primarily Leipzig, and worked at a school for the
city. He is considered to be one of the greatest musical composers, and composed till the day he
died. An unruly youth who greatly disliked authority, he had a strong will and mind of his own.
Well liked with many friends, yet no one really knew his inner workings, or how he thought. Of
the thousands of musical pieces he composed, few were published in his life. This was a man who
composed in great numbers, had reasons for doing so, and lived a rather simple, middle class life.

He was now looking for a job. He wanted the post as organist of Arnstadt where a new organ was
being built. After a short period as a violinist in Weimar he was indeed offered the post in
Arnstadt. However, problems arose when Bach composed a piece full of strange new sounds for
a church service. The Council decided to be lenient with him until he refused to work with the
boys choir and was found to have a complaint against him for entertaining a young woman in the
organ loft of the church. Thus was the end of his first job. He moved on to Muhlhausen and
married his cousin Maria Barbara on October 17, 1707. He got a job in Muhlhausen and set to
work on the poor facilities he had to work with there. His efforts here brought about his first
cantata Gott ist Mein Konig (God is My King), the only one of his cantatas to be published in his
life time. This was thanks to the Council s desire for publicity and prestige. A religious
controversy soon arose and the music in Muhlhausen was in a state of decay. Bach.was off to
find another job. On June 25, 1708, the Duke of Weimar offered Bach a post among the Duke s
Court chamber musicians. Bach and his wife moved to the small town of Weimar. While in
Weimar Bach composed music exclusively for the organ, which he played. By 1714 Bach had
moved up in status and was now the leader in the orchestra, second only to the old Kapellmeister.

The War Of A War
War occurs almost everywhere in the world and can be seen as a means of symbolism and
patriotism. The Revolutionary War was fought in order to gain independence. That was the
meaning behind that war. However, why do societies go to war, other than to fight for
independence? Ever since the beginning of time war has been used as a means to invade
another country and rid them of their resources. Whether it s a war or just invasion, it is still a
means of bombarding a country or society without any rights. Regardless of the invasion and
the reason being, the people of the country being invaded are affected and so are the veterans
invading the country. Most people tend to ignore the internal struggles veterans face post war.
The civilians of a war zoned country are also majorly affected in ways many people fail to see
because of the lack of media coverage. Most veterans returning from a war struggle from post
traumatic stress disorder, individuals in societies are blind to the fact that these people are mentally
unstable because of the experience they go through. Most people will salute a veteranbecause in
America it is proper to respect those who served the country. These people aren t aware that some
of these individuals might not want to be reminded of their actions and some of them might not be
entirely proud of what they did at war. The civilians are also very much ignored because no one
cares about the amount of innocent lives taken every day. The negative impact war

Impact Of Globalisation On The Economic Development Of...
Globalisation is the process that involves the international operations of financial and investment
markets as a result of improved communication mediums globally. It is the tendency of business
enterprises and individuals to step outside their national and domestic markets to other markets
around the globe to increase international trade and exchange of cultural values among different
nations. Growth of Telecommunication sector is considered as one of the biggest positive sides of
globalisation in Pakistan. However, increase in the rate of unemployment has also been witnessed
as a negative feature associated with the industrialisation and globalisation of Pakistan s economy.
This paper discusses the real aspects of globalisation in Pakistan by determining the economical,
social, cultural and environmental effects on its economy. The impact of globalisation on the
economic development of Pakistan will be discussed with an explanation of both, the positive as
well as the negative aspect of globalisation and its effect on the economy, business enterprises and
an individual.
Globalisation is the tendency of business enterprises to perform their trading practises by stepping
outside their nation s geographical and economic boundaries. It is the form of international trade
that opens up unlimited opportunities for corporations to serve consumers groups of their choice
beyond domestic market boundaries (Das, 2004, p. 2). The term globalisation became popular in

Essay on The Ontological Argument for the Existence of God
The Ontological Argument for the Existence of God
The ontological argument is an a priori argument. The arguments attempt to prove God s existence
from the meaning of the word God. The ontological argument was introduced by Anselm of
Canterbury in his book Proslogion. Anselm s classical argument was based on two principals and
the two most involved in this is St Anselm of Canterbury as previously mentioned and Rene
Descartes.
The ontological argument argues that if you understand what it means to talk about God, you will
see His existence is necessarily true. Anselm defined God as that than which nothing greater can be
conceived , hence God must exist. Anselm also believed that even ... Show more content on

If He did not exist, then you could still think of an even greater being (one just like God that you
said did not exist, except this one would exist). Existence must be one of God s attributes because
to remove it, you would still be able to fathom a greater God (one which does exist). The problem
most have with this argument is that it seems to simply list existence among God s attributes, rather
than show it. The argument appears to say whatever you can imagine should be true in reality.
Descartes claimed God exists is true, if we know what it means to talk of God. Similarly, he
maintained that once we know what a triangle is we know that it must have three sides. Like a
triangle inherently must have three sides, so God inherently must exist.
Objections to the ontological argument were first brought up by a monk who was a contemporary
of Anselm named Gaunilo. He said that according to Anselm s line of reasoning, if he envisioned
an island that is beautiful and sparkling and completely perfect, then it must exist. For an island
that does exist would be more perfect than one that does not exist. Gaunilo said that we cannot
simply define things into existence. We cannot show an island or God exists simply by analyzing
that idea.
A critique of Descartes comes from the philosopher David Hume who argued against the

football players not go through this but normal students as well. Students should not have to pay
thousands of dollars for an education to get treated any kind of way. The football team makes

A Study On Game Theory
In economics, there are many subfields of study and one that has the most difficulty and importance
is the study of game theory. From the beginning of economics, mathematical concepts and
analyzing people s behavior have been tools to determine the choices people will make in a buyer
and seller market. The most influential person in game theoryis without a doubt John Nash. John
Nash came up with the Nash equilibrium, which is used in everyday Intro to Game Theory courses
across the United States. However, Nash s idea for non cooperative games came about in the mid
20th century, so before then there were many other game theorist who provided their outlook on
how to solve complex games. Furthermore, there are many economist that are... Show more content

most brilliant idea ever thought of in economics. On the contrary, the father of economics, Adam

Also, Adam Smith influenced other economist to apply mathematics to their own theories. The
Nash equilibrium can be a useful tool to conduct an analysis on incentives in social institutions and
also how simplistic the Nash equilibrium can be, and it is obvious to say how astonishing that this
concept was not thought of before John Nash. Moreover, the first application of Nash equilibrium
in a mathematical model comes from Augustin Cournot. In 1838, Cournot published a book on
economics that produced the theory of oligopolistic firms that includes monopolists and perfect
competitors. On a side note, Cournot is known for being the founder of oligopoly theory, but to
give him credit for non cooperative games would be to confuse its methodology with its general
formulation (Morrison). He came up with the oligopoly equilibrium by conducting an analysis on

History of Cloning Essay
History of Cloning
Although the word itself has only been around for only four decades, the idea of creating an
organism identical to another has been around for centuries. Even nature has utilized this process.
The actual process of artificially cloning has been around since before 1900s, even though it is
heard of more often in the modern world. Cloning began in 1894 with the first clone of an
organism. Hans Dreisch was able to clone a sea urchin, and his research led to Hans Spemann s
multiple attempts and successes of cloning throughout his science years. As technology advanced,
Robert Briggs and Thomas King used Spemann s results to create the process of nuclear transfer

4). This experiment and others disproved Wilhelm Roux and August Weismann s theory that stated:
The egg and sperm contribute chromosomes equally to the zygote. The chromosomes are carriers
of the hereditary potentials, and the germ cells (gametes) of the embryo are the only ones to carry
the complete set of hereditary potentials (nuclear determinants), whereas each somatic (body) cell
type contains only part of these potentials required for the specific cell type (Berardino 2).
By separating the cells of a single developing embryo to create two organisms, Dreisch proved that
the somatic cell contains all hereditary information.
The next successful cloning experiment was conducted in 1902 by German Dr. Hans Spemann on
salamander embryos, producing twins. Spemann split the embryo using a strand of hair from his
newborn son, and the two resulting cells grew into normal adult salamanders. These salamanders
were artificially created identical twins. He repeated his experiments many times, and created
mutant creatures. He concluded that in order to create a normal organism, the cloning process
must be completed before what he called determination, or the stage in growth where cells
specialize into different cells for different parts of the body. This stage is completed in the early
growth of an embryo (Cheng n.p.). However, cloning in mammals remained impossible, due to the
fact that mammal eggs are invisible to the naked eye, while amphibian

The Final Body Of Literature
The final body of literature I want to give notice to is the literature pertaining to how museums are
arranged by curators and other museum staff to effectively display their artifacts. I wish to dive
into this literature because part of my own research will be examining how the curators of the
Cleveland Museumof Art decided to arrange their ancient Greek exhibit. This pool of literature will
help guide me in different ways to interpret the set up of the exhibit, the placement of the objects
and try to understand what the curator was trying to convey with their design decisions.
The first author I would like to discuss is Michael Baxendall. His article Exhibiting Intention: Some
Preconditions of the Visual Display of Culturally Purposeful Objects, is centered around
understanding the relationship between the visitor and the museum label as well as the intent
behinds the objects and the exhibit design. Baxendall has 2 major points in his article. The first
point and his own unique idea is the museum set. The museum set is a sense of the museum as a
treasure house, educational instrument, secular temple, and the rest . The typical adult visitor with
this mindset comes to museums expecting that he will view a large array of objects and learn
interesting cultural facts about them. This is the observer that most curators make their exhibits to
interact with and as such must be aware of their expectations.
However, the museum set seems to be just another way for Baxendall to

surprised to hear that of the children ages 8 and above, 61% live in homes without any rules

connection between too much media consumption and violence or acting out among children.

David Foster Wallace, Jessica Mittford s Essay
Being considerate toward everybody and everything is the ideal goal that everybody hopes to
achieve. Though the idea of being considerate is different depending on the person so reaching
that point in the world is impossible to achieve since there is no baseline for that, we have many
competing ideas as to what that could be. Some people see being considerate as being thoughtful
of other people but others will see it as a deeper meaning with being courteous toward all living
things on Earth and their belongings. There are so many different ways to be considerate and the
readings of David Foster Wallace, Jessica Mittford, and Caitlin Doughty all have underlying
messages of how people need to be more aware of what they are doing. Each piece... Show more

This is after he just gets done about talking about his own thoughts on the lobsters and how it is
alright if people keep eating it. Now if he is fine with people eating lobsters and wants to keep
eating animals on his own time why does he spend time writing this entire essay? This essay is
filled with so many sensory details that the reader can feel such as the noise of the scuttling against
the boiling pot with the lobster in it. He does this on purpose to bring to light something you may
not think about or brush off as nothing is actually going against your morals. Wallace poses an
interesting question in the conclusion of his essay by saying, Do you think much about the
(possible) moral status and (probable) suffering of the animals involved? If you do, what ethical
convictions have you worked out that permit you not just to eat but to savor and enjoy flesh
based viands (510). This is his whole purpose of writing this essay since this question alone
brings you back through his entire essay and all the insignificant details he talked about and
made you realize how significant they are in the amount of harm you may be bringing to the
animal. This whole idea of awareness and making sure your actions line up with your morales is
echoed in the writings of Jessica Mittford in her story The American Way of Death Revisited.

Essay on Life and Work of Dorothea Dix
The care of mentally ill patients majorly progressed since the 1800 s and much of this advancement
must be credited to Dorothea Dix. During part of the 19th century many perceived the mentally ill
as lost souls . People viewed these patients as incurable and helpless. Mental patients were
mistreated, taken advantage of, beaten, thrown into unclean quarters, and abused. Dorothea Dix, a
pioneer of her time, advocated for the mentally ill. She changed the way these people were viewed
and most importantly the way they were treated. Dix rebelled against inadequacies and campaigned,
alone, for the rights of the mentally ill. The public, as well as the government, treated the mentally
ill as criminals and sent them to live in unfit... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Dix continued to teach, she became ill and contracted tuberculosis (Viney, 2008). Doctors
encouraged Dix to withdraw from teaching during her illness and Dix complied.
After volunteering to teach a Sunday school class for women at a local jail in 1841, Dix s
mission in life changed and she set forth to make a difference in this type environment. Dix was
shocked to have observed [that] prostitutes, drunks, criminals, retarded individuals, and the
mentally ill were all housed together in unheated, unfurnished, and foul smelling quarters. When
asked why the jail was in these conditions her answer was, the insane do not feel heat or cold
(Bumb, 2008). Dix found the mentally ill in overcrowded areas, chained in poorly ventilated
cellars (Viney, 2008). Throughout the 1840 s and beyond, Dix was consumed with creating and
putting into action plans to guarantee safe facilities for the mentally ill community. Though not at
optimal health, Dix travelled to every state along the east coast creating and employing 32
mental hospitals, 15 schools for the feeble minded, a school for the blind, and numerous training
facilities for nurses (Bumb, 2008). Although Dix s beliefs were radical for her time, she did not
relent. Dix proposed a plan that a land grant of 12,500,000 acres be reserved and used for the
benefit of the blind, deaf, mute and insane. The president at the time, Franklin Pierce, vetoed the
bill however (Viney, 2008).

The Effects of Advancements in Lighting on The Theatre...
Without light, the theatre cannot exist, that much is certain. As actors, as audience members, as
technical visionaries, we are only as powerful as the light we are given. The extent to which we
depend upon light in performance has changed dramatically throughout history, however, as light
technology developed and expanded. In the history of performance, the artistic community is
constantly victim to the limits of lightingtechnology, and exponentially altered by breakthroughs.
From the utilization of candles and natural lightto isolated light and electricity, the histories of
illumination and theatreare virtually inseparable, and continue to push the boundaries of live
performance. Like any journey, it is necessary to begin with a... Show more content on

Having only heightened text and elaborate spectacles to guide them, much of the subtlety,
specificity, and emotion must have been lost in translation.Additionally, indoor performances,
primarily requested by courts and nobility, specifically used candles and torches as sources of
illumination. Candles were placed at the front of the stage, between the wings leading to the stage,
and above both the stage in order to frame the players. Chandeliers were also hung above those in
attendance, to create a sense of audience. This marks both the first appearances of footlights in the
theatre and, though basic, the beginning of a formulaic structure for lighting a performance space.
Issues prevailed, however there were still no successful methods for specific lighting, unless an
actor held the light themselves to illuminate their face, nor were colored lights or gobo devices
available. Though lighting was making its way into the theatrical world, it was purely technical, not
called upon to be inventive, create illusions or accomplish tasks at this point in time. Limited design
innovations were mostly rooted in the scarce advancements made with regard to lighting
technology. Where this began to change and evolve was in the early 1800s, when the gaslight was
introduced into the performing arts sphere. The new technology was brought into the theatre
industry by William Murdoch and later F.A. Winsor, who used the lights to replace candles in
framing the stage

Black Soldier Fly Research Paper
The black solider fly is indigenous to the southern United States and is now distributed to warm
temperate regions (Diener et al., 2009). Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) have been used in
backyard and farm composting systems for decades, mainly to treat animal manures (Tomberlin,
2001; Oliver, 2008). However, due to several unique characteristics, BSFL have been investigated
in a variety of beneficial applications. The life cycle of the BSFL is divided into four phases with
an average lifespan of 36 days depending on the environmental conditions (i.e. temperature,
moisture, and air supply) (Fig.1). (Tomberlin et al., 2002). Mature flies have no functioning mouth
parts and are not associated with transmission of diseases or considered pests... Show more content

Like energy crops, BSFL have not been previously digested and thus may offer higher bio
methane potential than manures or biowastes. However, unlike energy crops, BSFL would not
compete with food crops in agricultural land usage, and pose the associated environmental
issues such as soil erosion and pesticide leakage to surface and ground water (EEA, 2006).
Furthermore, BSFL have a high per acre productivity, fast growth rate, and can be grown on non
arable land areas similar to algae. However, harvesting and valorization of algae biomass require
significant water use and high capital and operation costs, which make it economically
challenging (Mussgnug et al., 2010). Therefore, the objective of the current research is to
investigate the potential of BSFL as a feedstock for anaerobic digestion, including integration of
anaerobic digestion into different BSFL biorefinery options. Specifically, we investigated the
following pathways: (1) Anaerobic digestion of food waste (2) Anaerobic digestion of BSFL fed on
food waste along with residual food waste; (3) BSFL fed on food waste used to produce biodiesel
and digestion of the residual lipid extracted BSFL combined with residual food waste. Data are
also reported on the bio methane of BSF cuticle and adult black soldier flies, and characterization

Is Shakespeare s Monologues And Soliloquie In Romeo And...
Shakespeare is renowned for his powerful monologues and soliloquies; from Romeo and Juliet s
lamenting beginning, as well as Hamlet s dreary end. Richard III is no different, the opening
speech in the beginning tells the audience Richard s immediate intentions; an action deliberately
made by Shakespeare. By introducing the play this way it gives the reader a sneak inside the
man s wicked soul, giving no doubt to the evil that is about to happen. Much like in Romeo and
Juliet, the plot or plan, rather is explained and then the tale begins. By putting the action at the
beginning, Shakespeare ensures that he has captured the audience s immediate interest by
showcasing a corrupted man s inner thoughts. Richard is deeply infatuated with power, and he
craves war and death alike. That is what the speech tells the audience, and when reading the
speech aloud, it is very easily noted the amount of rage and jealousy that is laced through every
word. Though Richard says that they are in a current time of peace, he feels none. He wants no
part in the tranquility that has been brought to the land since the end of the War. What the man
wants is conflict instead going as far as insulting death and war itself. Richard personifies war,
saying that it has gone and joined in the festivities of the day and has found love. In that instant,
Richard is jealous of it, for he says that love will not find him because he is deformed. For this
reason, Richard is plagued with the very

Danilo Blandon s Use Of Crack Cocaine In The United States
In 1996, Gary Webb claimed that black men were incarcerated for charges dealing with selling
cocaine because of the CIA. Thousands of young black men are serving long prison sentences for
selling cocaine a drug that was virtually unobtainable in black neighborhoods before members of
the CIA s army started bringing it into South Central in the 1980s at bargain basement prices. This
claim outraged members of the black community because it reaffirmed suspicions of the

He was a benevolent boss.
CASE ANALYSIS
1. The main reason for the decaying employee morale was the quick growth of the business. Dr.
Perry s employees were well compensated at competitive market rates and enjoyed a pleasant
working environment. The annual growth of the business (15%) meant that his employees were
making relatively less money than Dr. Perry himself. The current pay structure did not have any
provision for any category of employees to earn a proportion of the profits. Every employee has a
fixed hourly salary. Thus, a bigger business meant that they felt like slave labourers since they
were aware of the increase in the practice s revenues and number of patients.
2. Dr. Perry s revenues largely depended on the hygienists who generated about 40% of the
revenues. Even the receptionists played a vital role in adding to the revenue by filling in cancelled
appointments. His assistants too contributed by playing the role of nurses by comforting the
patients which further helped in patient retention. Thus it would seem only fair that a part of the
profits must be shared with the employees in the form of a variable pay structure.
3. As per the conference which Dr. Perry had attended, the first approach of remunerating the
employees focused on the contribution of the hygienists only. As per this approach, the hygienists
would be paid purely on a commission basis of around 40% of the total earnings. The main
advantages of this system are:

Billie Holiday spent 1934 moving up the rungs of the competitive New York bar scene. By early

song, using things like pauses and slurs which made the song become a story or an experience,
rather than just a group of notes sang with a voice.
During 1936, Holiday toured with groups led by Jimmie Lunceford and Fletcher Henderson, then

Essay The Iron Triangle and Heclo s Policy of Issue Networks
Heclo s policy of issue networks is a new way of dealing with the connection between politics
and its administration. Previously, the Iron Triangle was the way that the connection was dealt
with. The Iron Triangle concept described the major players as congress, career bureaucrats and
large interest groups. It was said that the groups had a give and take kind of relationship and
eventually led to a reasonably easy way to create policy while somewhat satisfying each of the
groups. Basically, the Congress passes laws, Bureaucrats implement the laws and the interest
groups support the congress. However Heclo describes the new way of doing business in

Heclo describes these groups as varied and operating on many different levels. We may have a
small group that is very vocal and show up at meetings but do not reflect the majority of people.
We may have a professor or expert who is called by legislators for advice or to clarify some part
of policy. Also, people are more involved and well read on issues and understand the issues more
completely. There are a few problems with this way of doing things and we can look at the
Reinventing School Lunch policy to see how this system can be effective and also cause some
delays and problems. The original goal of the food lunch program was to feed malnourished
school children and to help farmers by buying up some of their extra crops and commodities.
This program worked well for 50 years and was a popular and accepted program. In the 1990 s
the program was looked at and it was determined to look at and reinvent the school lunch
program. There were many players in this reinvention and we have Helen Haas who is the head

service association. There are also other players in the story including, school food workers, parent
and teacher groups, the farmers, dietary advocacy groups, the dairy council, meat council, and

Examples Of Push And Pull Factors On Mexican Immigration
Mexico is an extremely important country, as far as immigration is concerned, in the world. It has
a large amount of emigrants that leave their country each year. Many of these emigrants go to the
United States. This has caused the Mexican immigration issue to become very popular. After
research, we have found out a lot about the country of Mexico. One fact about Mexico is that it has
multiple push and pull factors. A few examples of some of Mexico s pull factors are because of
a beautiful landscape, lower costs of living, and affordable properties. These are all major
factors in the moving process. Unfortunately, Mexico has a large amount of push factors as well.
Some of these push factors are urbanization in the West, violence, and migration policies. It is
clear by the amount of people migrating from, and to, Mexico that these are big factors in
migration. According to Fox News, The Pew Research Center found that slightly more than 1
million Mexicans and their families, including American born children, left the U.S. for Mexico
from 2009 to 2014 (Fox News). This shows how much pull factors are involved in Mexican
immigration. Push and pull factors are a huge part of one of the world s biggest immigration
issues, but their are other factors as well.
One of those factors in Mexican immigration is the landscape of the country. According to

Issues regarding mass production and mass consumption have been a key area of critique for

creative practitioners such as Ai Weiwei and his response to the Chinese Cultural Revolution in his

A friend is someone you can always count on when times are tough. Having friends is easy but

Busting Unions For Fighting Reform Policies
Busting Unions for Fighting Reform Policies In the early chapters of Special Interest Terry Moe
spends much of his energy in attacking the power of the teacher unions. He claims that teachers
unions are the heart of the problem when it comes to organization and reform (Moe, 2011, p. 20).
While Moe claims the NEA (National EducationAssociation) and the AFT (American Federation of
Teachers) have historically lobbied against many reform programs, including voucher programs,
charter schools, and merit payprograms, there is also evidence where teachers unions have
supported new reforms. They have introduced new charter schools and have based salaries on
merit pay programs. Former NEA president Bob Chase delivered a speech in 1997 claiming that
the NEA was on the forefront of education reform. He stated that the NEA invested 70 million
dollars on reform initiatives and sponsored six charter schools across the country (Chase, 1997, p.
372). Educational policy makers should be in particular interest to these examples especially if they
believe in the effectiveness of reform programs. If policy makers understand the thinking behind
why the unions support or oppose reforms, better policies can be put in place. In addition, policy
makers in partnership with the teachers unions can work hand in hand to successfully coordinate
reforms in American education. Moe argues that the United States has struggled to meet the reform
challenge over the past quarter century specifically in the

Doughnut Shop Case Interview Questions
While interviewing Mrs. Beamon, owner and operator of the Wilson Doughnut Shop, I asked her
a series of questions that I and others could benefit from. Mrs. Beamon took over the Wilson
Doughnut Shop in 2008 and there were many things that needed to be changed. First I asked Mrs.
Beamon why and or what made her want to take over the Wilson Doughnut Shop. Mrs. Beamon s
answer was simple, she wanted to create jobs for people. She then went on to tell me that in the
beginning family members were supposed to work there but that isn t exactly the case now. I then
went on to ask about who owned the Doughnut Shop before she did and the answer to that question
was Mr. Tony Stone. While there was someone running the Wilson Doughnut Shop before Mrs.

Informative Essay On Baroque Music
Baroque music was first constructed between 1600s through 1750. Baroque music originates in
Rome, and Italy, thought out time the music migrated across Europe. The word Baroque is Italian
for bizarre, which corresponds with the music because it is very lively and energetic. I choose the
baroque period because the musicis very interesting and one of a kind, that is not played anymore
in our time. There are many different parts that make up the BaroqueOpera, from composers to the
actual Opera itself. There were many composers during the baroque era that wrote operas, like
Claudio Monteverdi; an early Baroque composer. Monteverdi composed mostly sacred and secular
music, he created two styles of composition heritage Renaissance polyphony... Show more content

The first opera house was opened in Venice, 1673. Composers would preform their operas for the
wealthy in theaters that would not be available for the less fortunate, or be hired to perform in the
wealthy s homes. Baroque music was also very popular for the ability to dance to it. There are five
different dances that were created during the Baroque period. The first one is Gavotte , it is a
French dance in a moderately quick quadruple meter, this formed one of the movements in the
classical suite, usually following the saraband. Another Baroque dance is called Bourree , this
dance is similar to gavotte; bourree starts on a different beat giving the dance a different feel,
usually played at a moderate tempo. Passepied is also another dance made from the baroque era,
this dance is a fast paced dance usually played at a triple meter. Another dance is the Minuet ,
this dance is one of the best know dances. This dance can start on any beat, making it more
enjoyable to dance to due to multiple beats. The last dance is Rigaudon this dance is a French
dance similar to bourree, but has more of a rhythmic feel to it. During this period the church was
also a big part in of the Baroque era. The church also started to get involved into the opera and
instruments known as cantata. Singing in the church created a variety of voices known as soprano,
alto, and many more. There are many forms of singing for example there were, recitative, duets,
and arias that were sung in the church. All the voices singing in unison created a melody that would
allow others to sing along, creating a homophonic

Ophelia and Hamlet in The Tragedy of Hamlet Essay
Ophelia and Hamlet
In 1600, William Shakespeare composed what is considered the greatest tragedy of all time,
Hamlet, the tragedy of the Prince of Denmark. His masterpiece forever redefined what tragedy
should be. Critics have analyzed it word for word for nearly four hundred years, with each
generation appreciating Hamlet in its own way. While Hamlet conforms, without a doubt, to
Aristotle s definition of a tragedy, one question still lingers. Did Shakespeare intend for the reader
or viewer of Hamlet to feel greater sympathy for Hamlet, or for Ophelia, Hamlet s lover? Both
characters tug at the heartstrings throughout the play, but it is clear that the tragedy of the Prince of
Denmark is a misrepresentation of Shakespeare s true ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems clear that Ophelia, in her madness, knows what others may be. She has become
enlightened in her insanity. Unfortunately, because of her suicide, Ophelia is never given the
chance to know what she herself might have been. Clearly though, Ophelia does change greatly
from act 1 to act 4. She transforms from a simple and innocent young girl into a mad, unsettled and
knowing woman. What brings on these changes in Ophelia? One significant cause is the
aforementioned attempted education by Ophelia s brother, Laertes.
When Laertes gives his brotherly advise to Ophelia, in act 1, scene 3, he speaks of more that just
Hamlet s love for Ophelia. Laertes warns Ophelia that Hamlet is toying with her affection in lines
14 18:
... Perhaps he loves you now,
And now no soil nor cautel doth besmirch
The virtue of his will, but you must fear,
His greatness weighed, his will is not his own,
or he himself is subject to his birth. (1.3.14 18)
According to Laertes, Hamlet could not possibly love Ophelia because his is a prince and
Ophelia a mere maid. Hamlet is bound by his regency to love and marry a princess of equal rank
and stature. In lines 30 33, Laertes preaches the importance of Ophelia s chastity:
If with too credent ear you list his songs,
Or lose your heart, or your chaste treasure open
To his unmustered importunity.
Fear it, Ophelia, fear it, my dear

March 15th, 2010, was a completely normal day. As normal as any day is for a twelve year old

television in the living room. Brittany was in her room and my parents didn t get home until
later because of work. A few hours into my movie, my stomach started to hurt. Since I was

abdomen was aching so much I couldn t even get off the couch. After wailing for Brittany to call

Drosophila Melanogaster Linkage And Inheritance Essay
Drosophila melanogaster, Linkage Inheritance
Peggy Chang 999349986
BIOC15 Peter, PRA002
University of Toronto Scarborough
Abstract
This experiment studied Mendel s law of independent assortment through observing three
generations of Drosophila melanogaster. His law was examined by looking at the inheritance
patterns that predicted genetic linkage, mapping distances and interference. Genes are located
along chromosomes and the distances between them vary. During recombination, these genes
may become unlinked. The frequency to which this occurs relies on the recombination
frequency, in which a greater value represents a greater distance between two loci. By looking at
inheritance patterns and recombination frequencies, this experiment showed that white eyes,
short wings and forked bristles are X linked traits. As well, dumpy wings and brown eyes are
autosomal traits. The expected ratio of a dihybrid cross of 9:3:3:1, was used to determine linkage
between two loci. This was then verified using a chi square test. Through analysis of our results,
linkage existed between white eyes and short wings, as well as between short wings and forked
bristles. Linkage was also found for the strains that had dumpy wings and brown eyes.

wings and forked bristles. Strain C was observed to have dumpy wings and lastly strain D had
brown eyes. Strains and their corresponding mutations can be seen in Table 1. The genotypic

Why Girls Get Periods
Period Questions
Why do girls get periods?
Every 28 days (or month), your uterus lining thickens in preparation to receive a fertilized egg if
you were to become pregnant. If this egg isn t fertilized, your vagina will release this uterine lining
in the form of blood. This is why you get your period!
What exactly is the blood that we push out when we have our periods?
The blood you push out every month (or so) when you get your period is the lining your uterus
prepares to receive a fertilized egg. When you do not get pregnant, this lining is released through
your vagina.
How often should I be getting my period?
Technically you should be getting your period every month. However, every girl and every single
one of our bodies is different. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brownish blood does not necessarily mean something is wrong. In fact, plenty of women
experience this throughout their menstrual cycle. Sometimes, brownish discharge means that a little
blood stayed in your uterus for a day or two before it came out.
I keep bleeding through my pads/tampons, is that normal?
Menstrual flows vary from woman to woman, some of us bleed a lot more, some bleed a lot less
during our periods. If you are bleeding through your pads and/or tampons it might mean you
need to opt for products designed a heavier flow. However, if your periods are very heavy in flow
and are accompanied by lots of pain and other symptoms you should visit your doctor to find a
solution to your heavy periods.
My period came earlier than expected, what does that mean?
Your menstrual cycle will vary throughout your life. If your period came earlier than expected it
you shouldn t worry. First of all, it means you re not pregnant (Phew!!!). You will see as you
grow older that your period cycle will stabilize. If you d like to have a more predictable menstrual
cycle though, you should talk to your doctor and consider getting on the pill.

Standard Principles And Techniques For International Air...
ICAO English Language Proficiency Since the birth of the International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO) in 1947, this U.N. funded specialized agency has been a substantial catalyst
for the development of standard principles and techniques for international air navigation. In
addition, they continue to facilitate the promotion of safety and overall development in the
continuum of flight. Between the advances in regulations, aircraft operation, aeronautical charts, air
traffic services, aircraft accident investigations and much more, this powerful agency has
contributed to the vast majority of aspects that compose aviation. Out of these numerous
contributions, one of the many significant roles the ICAO has played since their upbringing... Show

Undeniably, there is an absolute necessity of mutual understanding between all pilots and
controllers. Perhaps the International Civil Aviation Organizations standardization of the English
language in aviation in 1951 was one of the most vital advances for flight safety. This official
language of aviation, for the most part, kept the skies relatively safe. It would not be until the 70 s
come around, when tragedy would hit and the ICAO would have to reevaluate their intervention
with communication within aviation.
Although English may have been the standard language permeating throughout the skies, the flaws
of air traffic communication would soon come into light. Basic misunderstandings turned into
colossal circumstances. According to a journal analysis:
On March 27th, 1977, after a tiring shift, the Dutch pilot of a Boeing 747 misunderstood a
clearance, after take off for a take off clearance and began rolling down a fog covered runway. He
announced to the tower that he was at takeoff . The non native English speaking air traffic controller
took the at to literally mean at the take off position . However, through fatigue or frustration, the
Dutch pilot had performed an error, that only bilingual speakers can call, code switching . It is
when one uses two languages concurrently. In this case the Dutch infinitive ing , (as in taking off),
but replaced with the English word at ...

Domestic And International Asian Students
Table 3 shows that no significant difference was observed between the overall scores of adjustment
in domestic and international Asian students. This finding is different from previous studies that
showed East Asian students to have difficulty understanding the academic content resulting in poor
adjustment success (Lee, Farruggia, Brown, 2013). To test our main hypothesis, JASP was used to
generate data through descriptive statistics, ANOVA and further post hoc analyses. Initially, we
generated descriptive statistics to show the raw means. Table 4 displays this descriptive data
indicating that international students performed better than domestic students on university
adjustment (M = 34.60, SD = 2.60) and social interaction (M = 15.20,... Show more content on

To test the second hypothesis, further sampled t test comparisons were conducted. Table 3 shows a
strong significance between the different categories of adjustment, F(2, 81) = 197.09, p .001, О·ВІ
= .813; however, the significance was ambiguous. To see where the differencehappened, we
conducted t test comparisons. When comparing local university adjustment with international
university adjustment (t[4] = 1.990, p .05, d = .890), local social interaction with international
social interaction (t[4] = 0.732, p .05, d = .328) and local academic achievement with international
academic achievement (t[4] = .793, p .05, d = .355) no significance was found. In addition, the
significant values were found when academic achievement was compared with university
adjustment in domestic and international students. This was a potential error of key score
differences between the categories (Table 2). Table 5 provides the complete list of all the
comparisons and displays where the results showed significance. Through this statistical analysis,
our second hypothesis failed to be true as well.
Interestingly, an interaction was found to be significant for social interaction and academic
achievement. Figure 2 provides a visual representation of this result.
Discussion
The purpose of this study was to find the underlying differences between international and domestic
students. We used Asian students specifically for data to see whether they differ from one another

The State University Of New York
Introduction
The State University of New York (2014) provides and clear and accurate description of
globalization:
Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and
governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided
by information technology. This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political
systems, on economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well being in societies
around the world (The State University of New York, 2014, para 1). Global economicsaffects the
decisions of firms, governments, and individuals in the United State in many different ways. The
World Trade Organizationmanages the rules and trade between nations and has a significant impact
on intellectual property rights. Intellectual property rights refer creations of the mind, such as
inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce
(World Intellectual Property Organization, 2014). The purpose of this paper is to compare and
contrast free trade and protectionist theories, analyze how the global environment functions on a
micro and macro level within the context of the World Trade Organization, analyze the two level
game theory and how organizations make financial decisions in a globalized environment, and
determine which parties benefit from either increasing or decreasing trade restriction.

Analysis Of Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales Essay
Most people have experienced an event in their lifetime that has caused them to develop trust
issues, and many of which will never overcome this lack of trust in others. There is a specific
reason for this, and it all begins with the issue at hand itself, trust. Everyone with trust issues has
been wronged and used relating to their trust in another person. They were betrayed by someone
they never imagined could hurt them. As a recent song created by the rock group Phish has
reverberated, Each betrayal begins with trust. Betrayal has been a common theme in all forms
of literature since time began and is a part of being a social being, humans, that we simply
cannot avoid. Where there is a relay of trust, there is an individual willing to extort it. Just as
though some individuals will exploit power wherever they can find it in order to better
themselves, others will exploit trust to better themselves. This first exploit of trust can be found
within Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. While the whole entire work exposes corruptions
within the Catholic Church during Chaucer s time, the breaking of trust is actually demonstrated
within the Pardoner s Prologue and Tale. At the end of the Pardoner s tale, he offers the
pilgrimage relics, for a fee of course. However, at the prologue of the Pardoner s tale, the Pardoner
himself has explained how the Catholic Church and other fellow pardoners and church officials sell
relics which are no more than normal items given with a

  • 3. Hostility Towards Transgender Students One of the most complex and diverse populations of people are those categorized as transgender. These people are very often the subject of intense scrutiny, discrimination, ostracism, verbal harassment and even physical assault. These responses to a transgendered person often stems from a lack of understanding, confusion, fear, and anxiety when interacting with these people. In order to understand why people are so unsettled when in the presence of a transgenderindividual, it is essential to fully understand the term transgender. The American Psychological Association published a Question and Answer pamphlet (2014) to help the public understand the Transgender population in America. The APA defines the term transgender as an umbrella term for persons whose gender identity, gender expression, or behavior does not conform to that typically associated with the sex which they assigned at birth (p. 1) They go on to explain the differences between gender identity and gender expression. Gender identity is the person s internal sense of being male, female, or something else (p. 1). Gender Expression refers to the way a person communicates gender identity to others through their behavior, clothing, hairstyles, voice, and/or body characteristics (p. 1). • 6. The Marketing Mix Of Pepsi Marketing Mix of Coca Cola and Pepsi One of the fiercest battles between brands through the years is the battle between Coke and Pepsi. How effectively these brands market their products determine their market share. We learned in our lesson that a brands marketing strategy is comprised several components called a marketing mix. The marketing mix is composed of four areas; product, price, placement and promotion. Through many years of success and failure these brands are ripe with illustrations of marketing successes and failures. It is my desire to draw from these examples and describe each brands marketing mix. Let s start with PepsiCo. Product in the PepsiCo marketing mix The marketing mix of PepsiCo (4P) is aimed at its wide range of products which have evolved over time. This is mostly due to acquisitions of companies with different products bringing them all together under the PepsiCo brand. Many of PepsiCo s current brands and products have been added to the product mix via acquisitions. For example, snack products were added after Pepsi Cola acquired Frito Lay in 1965 forming a new company PepsiCo (Our History). Because it is a global company the differences between the markets also require changes to the marketing mix in each of its target markets. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Crossing The Border Argumentative Essay America: land of the free and home of the brave. For generations children have been raised from a young age to value these morals that the United States stands for. American values have long been seen as the ray of hope for millions of people around the globe. Immigrants from every imaginable culture flood to the United Stateseach year, possessing only the tattered dreams of a better life. But do we truly live up to this grand title we have claimed for hundreds of years? Instead of offering freedom to all who seek it, we now cower behind false stereotypes and grant it only to those luck few who we deem worthy. While unrestricted immigration into the United States is not probable, the proposed extensive immigration policies that target specific races or religions are violations of human rights... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is true that uncontrolled immigration is not a possibility for the United States due to the limited amount of resources available. The land, labor, and agriculture available to inhabitants of the country are already sometimes in scarce quantity. Today, millions of hopeful individuals continue to flee to the United States, both legally and illegally, in pursuit of a better life and to escape from their oppressive home nations. According to Crossing the Border , written by Emily Barone, the total foreign born population in the United States, in the year 2016, was 43.6 million people. Desperate to reach the protection of the United States, immigrants may ignore the legal proceedings of receiving visas before entering the country. In 2007, there was a peak of 12.2 million illegal immigrants in the United States (Barone). Strict laws have been enforced in recent years to try to combat the amount of undocumented aliens that both enter and remain in the country. Prejudicial actions have been taken regarding the decision on which groups are accepted, denied, or detained. While some ethnicities are allowed into the United States with little ... • 8. The Meaning Behind Seeing By Raymond Carver The Meaning Behind Seeing In the short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver, there is a very insightful message spoken about the true definitions between having sight and being able to see. The story focuses on three characters, and they each have emotions connected to one another, whether it be trust, jealousy or compassion. These characters include a blind man named Robert, the narratorwho is unnamed in the story, and his wife who also does not receive a name for the story line. Each of these characters have been through a series of obstacles which are clearly stated in the short story. Some of the difficulties, however, need to be interpreted in between the lines, such as the narrator s alcoholism issues and marital problems with the narrator and his wife. Quite a few of the difficulties the characters come across in Cathedral , were based off of the painful life Carver lived. When Carver was asked if his life moments were inspiration for his collection of stories his answer was, None of my stories really happened, of course... but there s always something, some element, something said to me or that I witnessed, that may be a starting place (Caldwell n.pg. 17). From Cathedral the audience can become aware that ...Carver weaves into Cathedral a narrativeof alcoholism, from addiction and alienation to bitter self awareness and then, sometimes, a legitimate hope of recovery (Messer n.pg. 4). • 9. Essay about Bach s Life and Music Bach s Life and Music He was a musical genius with thousands of musical compositions written in his lifetime. He spent his life in Germany, primarily Leipzig, and worked at a school for the city. He is considered to be one of the greatest musical composers, and composed till the day he died. An unruly youth who greatly disliked authority, he had a strong will and mind of his own. Well liked with many friends, yet no one really knew his inner workings, or how he thought. Of the thousands of musical pieces he composed, few were published in his life. This was a man who composed in great numbers, had reasons for doing so, and lived a rather simple, middle class life. Johann Sebastian Bach(J.S.) was born March 21st 1685, in Eisenach,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was now looking for a job. He wanted the post as organist of Arnstadt where a new organ was being built. After a short period as a violinist in Weimar he was indeed offered the post in Arnstadt. However, problems arose when Bach composed a piece full of strange new sounds for a church service. The Council decided to be lenient with him until he refused to work with the boys choir and was found to have a complaint against him for entertaining a young woman in the organ loft of the church. Thus was the end of his first job. He moved on to Muhlhausen and married his cousin Maria Barbara on October 17, 1707. He got a job in Muhlhausen and set to work on the poor facilities he had to work with there. His efforts here brought about his first cantata Gott ist Mein Konig (God is My King), the only one of his cantatas to be published in his life time. This was thanks to the Council s desire for publicity and prestige. A religious controversy soon arose and the music in Muhlhausen was in a state of decay. Bach.was off to find another job. On June 25, 1708, the Duke of Weimar offered Bach a post among the Duke s Court chamber musicians. Bach and his wife moved to the small town of Weimar. While in Weimar Bach composed music exclusively for the organ, which he played. By 1714 Bach had moved up in status and was now the leader in the orchestra, second only to the old Kapellmeister. • 10. The War Of A War War occurs almost everywhere in the world and can be seen as a means of symbolism and patriotism. The Revolutionary War was fought in order to gain independence. That was the meaning behind that war. However, why do societies go to war, other than to fight for independence? Ever since the beginning of time war has been used as a means to invade another country and rid them of their resources. Whether it s a war or just invasion, it is still a means of bombarding a country or society without any rights. Regardless of the invasion and the reason being, the people of the country being invaded are affected and so are the veterans invading the country. Most people tend to ignore the internal struggles veterans face post war. The civilians of a war zoned country are also majorly affected in ways many people fail to see because of the lack of media coverage. Most veterans returning from a war struggle from post traumatic stress disorder, individuals in societies are blind to the fact that these people are mentally unstable because of the experience they go through. • 12. Impact Of Globalisation On The Economic Development Of... Globalisation is the process that involves the international operations of financial and investment markets as a result of improved communication mediums globally. It is the tendency of business enterprises and individuals to step outside their national and domestic markets to other markets around the globe to increase international trade and exchange of cultural values among different nations. Growth of Telecommunication sector is considered as one of the biggest positive sides of globalisation in Pakistan. However, increase in the rate of unemployment has also been witnessed as a negative feature associated with the industrialisation and globalisation of Pakistan s economy. This paper discusses the real aspects of globalisation in Pakistan by determining the economical, social, cultural and environmental effects on its economy. The impact of globalisation on the economic development of Pakistan will be discussed with an explanation of both, the positive as well as the negative aspect of globalisation and its effect on the economy, business enterprises and an individual. Globalisation is the tendency of business enterprises to perform their trading practises by stepping outside their nation s geographical and economic boundaries. It is the form of international trade that opens up unlimited opportunities for corporations to serve consumers groups of their choice beyond domestic market boundaries (Das, 2004, p. 2). • 13. Essay on The Ontological Argument for the Existence of God The Ontological Argument for the Existence of God The ontological argument is an a priori argument. The arguments attempt to prove God s existence from the meaning of the word God. The ontological argument was introduced by Anselm of Canterbury in his book Proslogion. Anselm s classical argument was based on two principals and the two most involved in this is St Anselm of Canterbury as previously mentioned and Rene Descartes. The ontological argument argues that if you understand what it means to talk about God, you will see His existence is necessarily true. Anselm defined God as that than which nothing greater can be conceived , hence God must exist. Anselm also believed that even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If He did not exist, then you could still think of an even greater being (one just like God that you said did not exist, except this one would exist). Existence must be one of God s attributes because to remove it, you would still be able to fathom a greater God (one which does exist). The problem most have with this argument is that it seems to simply list existence among God s attributes, rather than show it. The argument appears to say whatever you can imagine should be true in reality. Descartes claimed God exists is true, if we know what it means to talk of God. Similarly, he maintained that once we know what a triangle is we know that it must have three sides. Like a triangle inherently must have three sides, so God inherently must exist. Objections to the ontological argument were first brought up by a monk who was a contemporary of Anselm named Gaunilo. He said that according to Anselm s line of reasoning, if he envisioned an island that is beautiful and sparkling and completely perfect, then it must exist. For an island that does exist would be more perfect than one that does not exist. Gaunilo said that we cannot simply define things into existence. We cannot show an island or God exists simply by analyzing that idea. A critique of Descartes comes from the philosopher David Hume who argued against the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even nature has utilized this process. The actual process of artificially cloning has been around since before 1900s, even though it is heard of more often in the modern world. Cloning began in 1894 with the first clone of an organism. Hans Dreisch was able to clone a sea urchin, and his research led to Hans Spemann s multiple attempts and successes of cloning throughout his science years. This experiment and others disproved Wilhelm Roux and August Weismann s theory that stated: The egg and sperm contribute chromosomes equally to the zygote. The chromosomes are carriers of the hereditary potentials, and the germ cells (gametes) of the embryo are the only ones to carry the complete set of hereditary potentials (nuclear determinants), whereas each somatic (body) cell type contains only part of these potentials required for the specific cell type (Berardino 2). By separating the cells of a single developing embryo to create two organisms, Dreisch proved that the somatic cell contains all hereditary information. The next successful cloning experiment was conducted in 1902 by German Dr. Hans Spemann on salamander embryos, producing twins. Spemann split the embryo using a strand of hair from his newborn son, and the two resulting cells grew into normal adult salamanders. These salamanders were artificially created identical twins. He repeated his experiments many times, and created mutant creatures. He concluded that in order to create a normal organism, the cloning process must be completed before what he called determination, or the stage in growth where cells specialize into different cells for different parts of the body. This stage is completed in the early growth of an embryo (Cheng n.p.). His article Exhibiting Intention: Some Preconditions of the Visual Display of Culturally Purposeful Objects, is centered around understanding the relationship between the visitor and the museum label as well as the intent behinds the objects and the exhibit design. Baxendall has 2 major points in his article. The first point and his own unique idea is the museum set. The museum set is a sense of the museum as a treasure house, educational instrument, secular temple, and the rest . The typical adult visitor with this mindset comes to museums expecting that he will view a large array of objects and learn interesting cultural facts about them. Dr. Perry s employees were well compensated at competitive market rates and enjoyed a pleasant working environment. The annual growth of the business (15%) meant that his employees were making relatively less money than Dr. Perry himself. The current pay structure did not have any provision for any category of employees to earn a proportion of the profits. Every employee has a fixed hourly salary. Thus, a bigger business meant that they felt like slave labourers since they were aware of the increase in the practice s revenues and number of patients. 2. Dr. Perry s revenues largely depended on the hygienists who generated about 40% of the revenues. Even the receptionists played a vital role in adding to the revenue by filling in cancelled appointments. His assistants too contributed by playing the role of nurses by comforting the patients which further helped in patient retention. Thus it would seem only fair that a part of the profits must be shared with the employees in the form of a variable pay structure. 3. As per the conference which Dr. Perry had attended, the first approach of remunerating the employees focused on the contribution of the hygienists only. • 31. Essay The Iron Triangle and Heclo s Policy of Issue Networks Heclo s policy of issue networks is a new way of dealing with the connection between politics and its administration. Previously, the Iron Triangle was the way that the connection was dealt with. The Iron Triangle concept described the major players as congress, career bureaucrats and large interest groups. It was said that the groups had a give and take kind of relationship and eventually led to a reasonably easy way to create policy while somewhat satisfying each of the groups. Also, people are more involved and well read on issues and understand the issues more completely. There are a few problems with this way of doing things and we can look at the Reinventing School Lunch policy to see how this system can be effective and also cause some delays and problems. The original goal of the food lunch program was to feed malnourished school children and to help farmers by buying up some of their extra crops and commodities. This program worked well for 50 years and was a popular and accepted program. In the 1990 s the program was looked at and it was determined to look at and reinvent the school lunch program. It has a large amount of emigrants that leave their country each year. Many of these emigrants go to the United States. This has caused the Mexican immigration issue to become very popular. After research, we have found out a lot about the country of Mexico. One fact about Mexico is that it has multiple push and pull factors. A few examples of some of Mexico s pull factors are because of a beautiful landscape, lower costs of living, and affordable properties. These are all major factors in the moving process. Unfortunately, Mexico has a large amount of push factors as well. Some of these push factors are urbanization in the West, violence, and migration policies. It is clear by the amount of people migrating from, and to, Mexico that these are big factors in migration. According to Fox News, The Pew Research Center found that slightly more than 1 million Mexicans and their families, including American born children, left the U.S. for Mexico from 2009 to 2014 (Fox News). This shows how much pull factors are involved in Mexican immigration. Push and pull factors are a huge part of one of the world s biggest immigration issues, but their are other factors as well. Busting Unions For Fighting Reform Policies Busting Unions for Fighting Reform Policies In the early chapters of Special Interest Terry Moe spends much of his energy in attacking the power of the teacher unions. He claims that teachers unions are the heart of the problem when it comes to organization and reform (Moe, 2011, p. 20). While Moe claims the NEA (National EducationAssociation) and the AFT (American Federation of Teachers) have historically lobbied against many reform programs, including voucher programs, charter schools, and merit payprograms, there is also evidence where teachers unions have supported new reforms. They have introduced new charter schools and have based salaries on merit pay programs. Former NEA president Bob Chase delivered a speech in 1997 claiming that the NEA was on the forefront of education reform. He stated that the NEA invested 70 million dollars on reform initiatives and sponsored six charter schools across the country (Chase, 1997, p. 372). Educational policy makers should be in particular interest to these examples especially if they believe in the effectiveness of reform programs. If policy makers understand the thinking behind why the unions support or oppose reforms, better policies can be put in place. In addition, policy makers in partnership with the teachers unions can work hand in hand to successfully coordinate reforms in American education. The first one is Gavotte , it is a French dance in a moderately quick quadruple meter, this formed one of the movements in the classical suite, usually following the saraband. Another Baroque dance is called Bourree , this dance is similar to gavotte; bourree starts on a different beat giving the dance a different feel, usually played at a moderate tempo. His masterpiece forever redefined what tragedy should be. Critics have analyzed it word for word for nearly four hundred years, with each generation appreciating Hamlet in its own way. While Hamlet conforms, without a doubt, to Aristotle s definition of a tragedy, one question still lingers. She transforms from a simple and innocent young girl into a mad, unsettled and knowing woman. What brings on these changes in Ophelia? One significant cause is the aforementioned attempted education by Ophelia s brother, Laertes. When Laertes gives his brotherly advise to Ophelia, in act 1, scene 3, he speaks of more that just Hamlet s love for Ophelia. Laertes warns Ophelia that Hamlet is toying with her affection in lines 14 18: ... Perhaps he loves you now, And now no soil nor cautel doth besmirch The virtue of his will, but you must fear, His greatness weighed, his will is not his own, or he himself is subject to his birth. (1.3.14 18) According to Laertes, Hamlet could not possibly love Ophelia because his is a prince and Ophelia a mere maid. Hamlet is bound by his regency to love and marry a princess of equal rank and stature. In lines 30 33, Laertes preaches the importance of Ophelia s chastity: If with too credent ear you list his songs, Or lose your heart, or your chaste treasure open To his unmustered importunity.

  • 46. Drosophila Melanogaster Linkage And Inheritance Essay Drosophila melanogaster, Linkage Inheritance Peggy Chang 999349986 BIOC15 Peter, PRA002 University of Toronto Scarborough Abstract This experiment studied Mendel s law of independent assortment through observing three generations of Drosophila melanogaster. His law was examined by looking at the inheritance patterns that predicted genetic linkage, mapping distances and interference. Genes are located along chromosomes and the distances between them vary. During recombination, these genes may become unlinked. The frequency to which this occurs relies on the recombination frequency, in which a greater value represents a greater distance between two loci. By looking at inheritance patterns and recombination frequencies, this experiment showed that white eyes, short wings and forked bristles are X linked traits. As well, dumpy wings and brown eyes are autosomal traits. The expected ratio of a dihybrid cross of 9:3:3:1, was used to determine linkage between two loci. This was then verified using a chi square test. Through analysis of our results, linkage existed between white eyes and short wings, as well as between short wings and forked bristles. Table 3 shows a strong significance between the different categories of adjustment, F(2, 81) = 197.09, p .001, О·ВІ = .813; however, the significance was ambiguous. To see where the differencehappened, we conducted t test comparisons. When comparing local university adjustment with international university adjustment (t[4] = 1.990, p .05, d = .890), local social interaction with international social interaction (t[4] = 0.732, p .05, d = .328) and local academic achievement with international academic achievement (t[4] = .793, p .05, d = .355) no significance was found. In addition, the significant values were found when academic achievement was compared with university adjustment in domestic and international students. This was a potential error of key score differences between the categories (Table 2). Table 5 provides the complete list of all the comparisons and displays where the results showed significance.
