I am part of a generation of economists that grew up online. Thus, I have witnessed the growth
promise and disruptive potential of Internet based technologies driven by their capacity to
amplify and propagate economic phenomena. I want to develop and test theories about the
economy wide impact of digital technologies. My (micro)empiricist side built working with Amy
Finkelstein at NBER and Edward Miguel at UC Berkeley tells me to trust data more than
anecdotal evidence. Simultaneously, my (macro)theorist side developed at Universitat Pompeu
Fabra (UPF), UC Berkeley, and LSE reminds me to look at patterns in a system rather than in

turbidity, and dissolved oxygen. Each of these chemical levels were documented and found
differently. Most were found using a kit or a device. The numbers found, would tell us how
polluted the stream was and how much nutrients were in the water. Each chemical has a scale for
telling what a good level is and what a bad level is. If an excess amount of nutrients was found in
the water, algae could be formed. When algae is formed it blocks sunlight from shining into the

The Horrible Human Rights Violations
On the contrary when there were the horrendous human rights violations occurring in Rwanda
with a genocide taking place killing thousands and thousands of people there was not a single
country that chose to stand up and help. Either by providing soldiers that were needed to protect
the people or by providing resources like food, water, health, shelter or sanitation that was needed
by the Rwandan citizens. The U.N. even did not help and didn t even take a stand against the
governments of the other countries for not providing help. The only reason behind this was that
Rwanda did not have anything to offer in return for the countries providing help. It is an

Helmer through the holiday season and the fall of their marriage. Within the two acts there are
many figurative language devices used to help further the story along, however, there are a few
in specific that stand out. The play s foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony all contribute the
most to the play s overall development of Nora s self affirmation. Foreshadowing in A Doll
House is present from the beginning of the story. Much of which is not noticeable until later
events. In the beginning of Act 1 Nora hides her macaroons from Torvald, HELMER: Hasn t

NORA: No, Torvald. (Ibsen, 1657). Although it is minor in nature, it reveals Nora s character of
being rebellious despite Torvald s wishes. The effect this characterization has on the story is that

reader can begin to identify the conflicts of Nora and Torvald s relationship that get developed on
as the play progresses. Another example of foreshadowing is in Act 2 when Nora is getting
ready to leave out to town, when she engages in a conversation with Anne Marie about the
children asking, Do they ask for me much? . To which Anne Marie responds, They re so used to
