Gabane Home Based Care Provides HIV/AIDS Assistance
1. Gabane Home Based Care,
(GHBC)
The Gabane Home Based Care operates in a small village of
Gabane, located just a few kilometres west of Gaborone.
The organisation was formed to assist people infected by
HIV/AIDS and other terminally ill patients.
It provides the HIV/AIDS terminally ill patients with home
care. Home care in this context refers to any form of assistance
given to a sick person, referred to as the patient, in their
homes.
GHBC members move around Gabane to pay visits to the
terminally ill patients and give them support and assistance
such as cleaning their surroundings, washing their clothes,
bathing and feeding them.
2. Gabane Home Based Care,
(GHBC)
This Organisation also educates people who are
infected by diseases such as HIV / AIDS on how to
live positively without fear of stigma.
They again identify the sick and ask for money
from the Ministry of Health to purchase essentials
for those who are sick such as gloves, cotton wool
and many other things.
The organisation also runs a day care centre for
orphans who have lost their parents due to
HIV/AIDS and other reasons.
3. Gabane Home Based Care,
(GHBC)
GHBC is partly funded by the government and relies
much on donations from the Non-Governmental
Organisations.
Of late, students from different secondary schools and
staff of different commercial banks have been
contributing tremendously to organisations such as this
one.
This is very much in line with the objectives of Vision
2016 which call upon Batswana to be a caring, loving and
compassionate nation by the year 2016 when Botswana
celebrates her 50th year of independence.
4. Save Our Souls (SOS)
SOS is an organisation based in Tlokweng and it cares for
orphans and abandoned children by providing them with
shelter, education and other social amenities until they reach
18 years.
It assists these disadvantaged children with education or skills
in order for them to survive in this modem world.
Save Our Souls identifies even those children with disabilities
and assists them with special education or refers them to
specialists to get appropriate help and education.
The orphans and abandoned children are usually placed with
foster parents are adopted whenever people come forth for
such an arrangement.
5. Total Community
Mobilisation (TCM)
TCM is an organisation that is funded mostly by the
Ministry of Health whose members move around
Botswana from village to village to raise awareness on
issues relating to the spread and prevention of
HIV/AIDS.
The volunteer members of this organisation cover the
whole of Botswana teaching people on how to prevent
the spread of HIV/AIDS and how to live positively with
people infected by the disease.
The organisation deals with the distribution of condoms
and teaches people how to correctly use both the male
and female condoms.
6. Environmental Conservation
Community Based Organisation
(ECCBO)
ECCBO refers to a number of organisations found in
different areas around Botswana teaching people on issues
related to conservation of environment.
It is not found in just one village, but in a number of them
and has small branches in schools.
It participates in clean up campaigns such as litter picking
and educating people on how to take care of their
surroundings and environment in general.
