The Legacy Of Rhode Island
Vincent Buddy Cianci was born April thirtieth, 1941 . His career was fraught with conspiracy
and crime, but he is still considered to be one of the most beloved political figures in Providence,
Rhode Island s colorful history. He earned his first term as mayor at age thirty three, in 1975. He
would serve six terms as mayor over the course of three decades. Buddy died just last year,
January twenty eighth, 2016 after losing a battle with cancer. The city and surrounding towns
mourned together at the loss of an incredibly controversial, but deeply loved political leader. His
six terms made him one of the longest running mayors in United States history. Cianci s loved

Providence was no longer the bustling hub that it used to be. The city never really recovered, it
now houses many of the lower middle class and minority communities. This type of implosions is
sometimes referred to as white flight, the white middle and upper class fled the city leaving the
lower classes to live in dissolving, disheveled neighborhoods . The Italian neighborhood, Federal
Hill, fell under the control of organized crime during this weakened economic window, this would
remain a prominent authority in Providence until the late 1990s. Today the tendrils of mobster
influence still can be seen but in a lesser degree than in the 1970s.
Politically, Providence was always a bit corrupted. It ran on a patronage system where a person
would scavenge and promote democratic voting and in return, the democrats would give the person
who gathered the votes a government job . This continued well into the twentieth century despite
the Pendleton Act of 1883 which stated that government jobs should be awarded based on the
potential employee s merit rather than their political affiliations or connection . The politics were
not clean, it was run by the Democratic machine which kept the city spiraling down by putting the
same ineffective politicians in charge.

Irony In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter
Authors use literary elements dramatically in short stories to influence a certain feeling on the
reader or to send out a certain message to the audience. Throughout the stories, The Interlopers and
Lamb to the Slaughter , both authors use elements to make their story appealing to the reader. Saki,
the author of The Interlopers uses his examples of literary elements precisely and tremendously,
which makes his story better than Dahl s Lamb to the Slaughter .
The author of the story Lamb to the Slaughter , Roald Dahl, uses a significant amount of irony
throughout the story. Dahl uses irony to make his story more appealing to the reader by keeping
them engaged. An example of irony in the story is when Mary is six months pregnant and her
husband expresses he is leaving her, so she murders him. The audience would have never seen
this coming because the author expresses Mary s feelings from the beginning of the story by
saying, She loved him for the way he sat loosely in a chair, for the way he came in the door or
moved slowly across the room with long strides. She loved the intent, far look in his eyes when
they rested on her, the funny shape of the mouth, and especially the way he remained silent about
his tiredness, sitting still with himself until the whiskey had taken some of it away. (Dahl 1 2).
When Dahl shares Mary s feelings, the reader concludes that Mary is an innocent, loving wife that
truly loves her husband and would do absolutely anything for him. But when Mary murders him
after he decides to leave, situational irony appears. This is an example of situational irony because
the reader would never expect Mary to murder her husband, but the exact opposite occurs. Dahl
also uses situational irony as an example of language. The language makes the story more
intriguing and exciting. The situational irony is used in the story to shock the reader and to create
the climax of the plot.
Dahl also uses imagery throughout Lamb to the Slaughter. An example of imagery is when Dahl
describes in depth how Mary murdered her husband, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him
and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as
hard as she could on the back of his

China during the Qin Dynasty
Ying Zheng is one of the most influential people in the history of china. The unification to
subjugate of all states: Yan, Qi, Chu, Wei, Zhao and Han caused by Ying Zheng; who centralized
the Chinese empire in 221 BC, is what now is called the Quin Dynasty. Also he included the
Terracotta Army and he is remember as one of the biggest tyrants of history. However the Quin
Dynasty itself has a positive outcome because it united China, it made the construction of the Great
Wall, mended war damage and protracted the canal system. The Quin Dynasty lasted for 15 years.

Since I ve been studying hard all day, I didn t really have time to post something. Well I would if
I wasn t watching Schindler s List again, but when the mood strikes, one should watch that film.
So here is an essay that I wrote a couple of months ago for school, which is all about filmpiracy and
why I m against it. The essay managed to get an extremely high excellence. See how different my
writing is when I m at school compared to when I m blogging (if I seem to be over exaggerating a
lot this is because I m just trying to get my point across, as I am supposed to be writing this essay
for a school magazine ):

eventuating in a criminal act such as piracy becoming the biggest user of the internet.
People are under the impression that downloading/watching a pirated film on the internet is
harmless, when it is really theft. What these people fail to realise is that film making accounts
for over 2.4 million jobs in the US, and is a major contributor to the global economy. The film
industry isn t the only one that loses money to piracy, as the Department for Professional
Employees says the government loses tax revenue that would have been generated by the sale
of non pirated goods. The Motion Picture Association of America says that an estimated $58
billion in economic output is lost to the US economy annually due to copyright theft. This has a
resounding effect on the jobs needed to make films. Most of the workers in Hollywood are on
average wages even though their services such as costume making, food preparing or assisting
directors are all vital. If their films fail to earn their budget back, their wages are cut, or even
worse, they lose their job. Films aren t just about the rich actors and lavish sets that appear on
screen.

What Caused The Economic Boom Of The 1920s
Many Americans believed that the 1920s were a time of economic prosperity. With the economy
booming and the creation of new and innovative technologies, it was believed that a majority of
society was well off during this time period. With new forms of mass media and advertising,
people were under the impression that the stock market was booming and that the economy was
doing well. However, the 1920sactually brought about many hard times for unemployed workers
and struggling industries, which eventually lead to the Great Depression.
There were multiple activities and industries that caused the economy to boom in the 1920s. After
the war, mass production became popular and many new industries started to appear and grow

Rebirth In Hinduism
When the charioteer of Prince Arjuna, Krishna (who is an avatar of the god Vishnu), tries to
convince the prince to fight against his own relatives, he invokes some of the core concepts of
Hinduism, such as karma, dharma, samsara, and brahman.
The avatar Krishna brought up Hindu concept of atman saying, the Eternal [atman] in man cannot
die . Hindus believe in brahman, the essence of life. The brahman in humans is the soul, or atman.
As opposed to the human body, the atman is eternal. The ultimate goal in Hinduismis to achieve
moksha, or reunion with brahman. But it takes multiple lifetimes to achieve moksha, so Hindus
believe in samsara, or rebirth. After the physical death of the human body, the atman then takes
another form and Krishna reminds Arjuna of this by saying, As...our mortal body wanders on in...

A person has a higher chance of being united with brahman if they build up good karma
throughout their lifetime. In order to build up good karma, one must fulfill his or her dharma.
Krishna repeatedly invokes this concept of dharma. Karma is a person s actions which, if used
to fulfill their dharma, lead to good karma. Good karma results in the person s atman being
reincarnated in a higher being, and so is therefore closer to achieving the ultimate goal of moksha,
or reunion with the divine. Since Prince Arjuna is a warrior, his duty is to fight. Krishna invokes
this by saying Think thou of thy duty and do not waver. Not fulfilling one s dharma means that
person will get bad karma, and therefore be farther away from achieving the Hindu goal of moksha.
Since Arjuna s duty is to fight, him not fighting, even if it means killing his own relatives, is him
not fulfilling his dharma.

Autobiography Of Education
Education is highly valued in my family. As a child, I grew up in a household with loving parents
that both worked in Education. I was born in Hunan, China. The day of May 23, 2001 will forever
be important to me. This is the day that my parents were united with me. Once I arrived at my new
home in the United States, everything would change for me. Most changes were positive and
others were setbacks or challenges. By the age of seventeen, I have attended six different schools in
two different states. My first home, the place that I made most of my closest friends, was
WashingtonState. In preschool, I attended a private Montessori school till I was five years old.
This is where I learned the alphabet and other skills for the future. Preschool was the stepping stone
of the start of my educationin Washington. At age 6, it was time for me to attend elementary
school. My parents, hoped they could find a school that would be best for me. The first school I
went to was a public school. Soon, a setback of mine would arise and affect me in many ways.
While I attended Black Diamond Elementary School, my mother, had asked one of the teachers,
When will you start teaching my daughter how to read ? Their response was of something that
did not impress my parents. They had told her that I could just look at pictures in the books or
have others read to me. Just as I begin to make good friends, I find out that I have to move to a
different elementary school. Reading used to be difficult for me growing up until I received extra
help.
One of my first grade teachers offered to help me improve my reading skills. After second grade,
I started third grade at a new private school thirty five minutes away from home. My challenge
with reading and math continued through my next four years at the new private school. At Annie
Wright School I had a reading skills teacher helped me in weekly sessions to improve my reading
fluency. During sixth grade, my parents thought that enrolling me in Kumon would help me
improve my math skills. Kumon helped me up until the end of sixth grade when, yet again, my
family moved across the country to a small town called Holderness, New Hampshire. This is where
I met a teacher who helped build on the

Grotesque Stereotypes
We later used these characteristics of high status in a perverse male character obsessed with
being with ever younger women to the point we parody him eventually masturbating a baby. The
movements become ape like, panting like a dog and soon he was on his knees barking and
entirely playing the dog. We were able to challenge the common fetish of older men and the
desire to make themselves look younger. The purpose of these scenes was to make the audience
unable to ignore the message we were projecting; an understanding that our position in society is
only defined relative to those we consider to be lesser or greater than our own. By forcing the
audience to consider their roles in these relationships it becomes an easy step for them to see their
place in a wider flawed system as noted from the lecturer s course material, absent target eg the
establishment , personal target eg the audience (Taaffe 2015 2016)

Compare And Contrast Jefferson And Jackson
While Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson laid their interests in distinctive areas of the nation
and enforced their beliefs with differing actions, many similarities can be found between the two
presidents. For example, both presidents portrayed themselves as the common man , advocating
for the lower classes and believing that the federal government should not be involved in state
affairs. Both opposed the ruling of the aristocratic elite and advocated for equal rights for all,
special privileges for none . However, although both believed that majority should have power,
Jefferson and Jackson had contradictory views on education, holding office, and industrialization all
of which influenced their actions as president. Jefferson changed... Show more content on

Both Presidents wanted to support the common man and create a government where the
majority carried the most influence. They opposed the Bank and believed the Constitution gave
specific powers to the President, and were both democrats who believed the nation was founded
on the work of the lower classes, and that the rich should not receive special privileges simply
because of their status. Jefferson was against anything that he felt would hurt the common man ,
such as the Bank and a strong central government. He was also a strong supporter of the Bill of
Rights, advocating for protecting the privileges of the people. Jackson favored common people
over the wealthy and his presidency shifted the power from New England to the western farmers.
He also opposed the Bank, and furthered his opposition when he took drastic measures to dispose
of the Bank. Jefferson and Jackson were undoubtedly similar in their drive and willingness to
provide the best for the common man . While they were similar in this way, Jefferson bent his
ideals while purchasing the Louisiana Territory because it was an opportunity for the nation.
Jackson, however, stayed true to his policies and shut down the Bank because the Constitution did
not give him the power to create one. Jefferson s support of the common man was limited to
farmers, whom he supported by promoting nation wide education, suppressing industrialization and
expanding the boundaries of America. Jackson s support was more intense, taking the money out
of the Bank and dispersing it into state banks for example. He supported the laborers and
mechanics by believing that anyone is qualified for office, and by removing the Indians from lands
west of the Mississippi in order to calm internal

The Assassination Of Jfk By Lee Harvey Oswald
The shot seen across the country. The assassination of JFK still stands today as one of the most
shocking events in American history. Its had a larger impact because of the fact that it was on
national television and because of its graphic nature. Since we will never know the true motive
of Lee Harvey Oswald, the only thing that we could do is make our own assumptions. That is
what we ve done, which have only made things more difficult for us to grasp and have created
more conspiracy theories. I will get into the immediate effects that his actions caused such as the
Warren Commission and what the report said and did. Mystery still surrounds this whole event
because he was killed before he could even go on trial for his murders. That s also what ties in
Jack Ruby to a conspiracy because killing Oswald, made it look like he was trying to hide
something. This event has a lot of moving parts, especially with all of the different conspiracy
theories. I wasn t all that familiar with the details of the assassination, but after gathering all of the
information and reading about all the conspiracy theories, they all seem to be real possibilities.
All of the theories do seem a little far fetched, but they all have some good evidence to support it.
All I can say is that learning about this assassination has certainly made me think. I will explain
who John F. Kennedywas, what he stood for, and what he accomplished during his presidency. Also
about Lee Harvey Oswald and what could have

CBCT Lab Analysis
The CBCT is somewhat recent imaging modality, as the first commercial scanner being in use in
1998 for dental imaging aims (87). This is a subtype of computed tomography which utilizes an
x ray beam in the form of cone instead of the conventional fan one (88). For standard full field of
view for CBCT, polychromatic X rays are generated from a source tube generated by 100 120
kV tube potential using 1.5 10 mA current (89). The generated X ray photon energy is absorbed
by different materials found be¬tween the X ray source and detector. The remaining energy
after materials absorption is recorded on a film detector as expressed by intensity (I) that means
energy per area and time. For example, the flat panel detector consists of a pixel array... Show more

Scatter artifacts resulted from scattered X ray photons from the original path that is added to the
primary intensity causing an underesti¬mation of attenuation value in Eq. 1. Scattering has
increased chance to occur with the use of larger detectors resulting in streak artefacts during
reconstruction of the CBCT image (90). Additionally, beam hardening happens as the energy
levels of polychromatic X ray beams used with the CBCT are not uniform, so the lower energy
photons can be absorbed easily at the edges of the scanned area causing hardening of the X ray
beam, which resulting in lower gray values toward the subject center causing what is called
cup¬ping artifact even if the density all over the subject is identical (91) Ring artifacts caused by
defects or un calibrated components in the detector forming concentric rings in the CBCT

values are more than the maxi¬mum level of operation that the software can deal with (91).
Patient motion during CBCT scanning can cause shading or streaking artefacts that appear when
the gray values are incorrectly registered on the resultant image (90, 91). This artefact com¬monly
showed as double contours in the CBCT image. Currently, CBCT based BMD measurement has
been used mainly to evaluate bone properties around dental implanta¬tion (92). It was shown that,

The Importance Of Volunteering To A Non-Profit Community
It is always a great time to volunteer, as it is a critical part of the United States Economy as well
as the economy around the world. It is not only a great contribution to society, but a great
contribution to what is relevant, it could be for a cause very close to you like volunteering at the
neighborhood watch or something that can change the lives of millions of people like volunteering
as a firefighter, nurse, natural/civil disaster areas worldwide, and the list could go on, but the idea
is always there, and that is, to volunteer for a greater cause.

Emergency Evacuation Planning
ABSTRACT:
Emergency evacuation is movement of people away from the place of accident/hazard immediately
to a safer place. This results in confusion and commotion causing more harm to people in and
around the place of accident/hazard. Thus, planning an emergency evacuation is a complex
procedure which includes routing evacuees, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic
control. During such catastrophic events, the evacuation routing models are vital to the evacuation
planning problems. Since, transportation infrastructure is a limited resource both in terms of
directional accessibility and capacity, it is worthy of well planning evacuation routes in advance so
as to ensure a safe evacuee routing decision and efficient utilization ... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
When a disaster or incident occurs, evacuees start to panic in general and may compete for the
egress routes without considering others if no proper evacuation routes are planned. Movement of
evacuees may cause congestion on road networks in large scale evacuations. However, considering
roadway capacities may severely limit the efficiency of the evacuation, which will naturally force
motorists find ways to divert around the disaster event. People are constrained during an evacuation
by the capacity of the road network, which in turn dictates evacuation times. Evacuation planning
therefore becomes critically important and essential to foster emergency evacuation strategies in
defining feasible evacuation routes and their traffic impact on the existing roadway network for
varied scenarios of disaster events. Without it, an effective evaluation practice would be unlikely.
Such an evacuation planning modelling is a complex problem with routing evacuee behavioral and
management facets, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. The evacuees must
be routed to safety under dynamic hazard and traffic conditions. Any number of transportation
problems can arise during an evacuation. A central challenge in managing a regional evacuation is
routing people to safety. An efficient routing plan is valuable because evacuations routinely result
in travel demand that exceeds the available network capacity. In emergency planning, GIS is
valuable to provide the data required by the evacuation models. On the other hand, traffic simulation
models have been developed for simulating traveler behavior and vehicle movement process. Thus
this learning module explains the integrity between the GIS and Transportation Engineering in the
real life

This second reflection period has been different from the first in that the defacto divides among
those in the class have been realigned. Furthermore, this reflection period has enabled many
factors of my classmate s identities to become apparent. While I believe the topics were less
controversial during this period, I believe that the selected readings and a greater degree of
variation in my classmate s opinions made this period much more disputed. Additionally, the topics

background. I count myself among the students who became more comfortable and assured during
this reflection period. By now, I am pretty confident that I have gotten to know my classmateswell

Essay On Cherub Rock And To Forgive
The songs Cherub Rock and To Forgive by Smashing Pumpkins are drastically different at first
glance. Some may think that the only similarity between the two songs is their artist However as
one moves through each song one can see how each song can be connected by either similar lyrics,
ideas, structure, or styles of repetition.
As we start on the song Cherub Rock from the album Siamese Dream, let s look to the beginning.
The start of the songs features upbeat guitars that quickly mix with a dirty rock rhythm,
contrasting To Forgive. The songs lyrics start off by saying freak out and give in. Doesn t matter
what you believe in . Given the rest of the songs lyrics this could be referring to blending in and
doing what someone else wants due to the lyrics, be somebody s fool this year. Cause they know.

To Forgive features a different style of repetition that parallels the previous lyrics. The lyrics I
knew my loss before I even learned to speak and but I played along to my birthday song are very
similar to previous lyrics, basically repeating the pre chorus. This could be done to emphasize
ideas without repeating the pre chorus verbatim. The song then goes on to repeat the chorus once
more. The feelings of loss of control, emptiness, or childhood sadness are expressed in Cherub

Writing Skills, Oral Communication, And Confident Level
People change by time goes by, so do I, especially in academic perspective. What usually happen
to me when it is approaching last week of the semester, I tend to compare myself in the present to
myself in the past. There are many aspect that I look to create subjects of comparison for a certain
class such as writingskill, oral communication, and confident level. English 150 is one of
important class that I can use to measure my academic level. A lot of important things I learned
in this class for this semester, which I can use to improve myself especially in generating ideas,
revising compositions, and improving editing process. Idea is the first thing we need to have
before working on our composition so that it can lead and keep us on our objective in writing an
essay. In this class, I notice that before working on any assignment, my instructor always ask the
whole class to write down any ideas we have to do the task. The reason why she gave us specific
time to think and write our ideas is she wantto train us to brainstorm before doing something. This
is how I generate my idea and choose the best option that I have using the list of ideas that I have
from brainstorming process. This process can be interesting part of generating idea because I just
write what I have in my mind even though it is not logic and impossible to do. However, here
come next step, which give solution to the brainstorming process. I used to call it elimination
process. In this process, I need

House Essay
House, despite having a sexist main character and hardly and characters who are women, is my
very favorite television show. When I watch (which, by the way, is every week; religiously), I do
so because of the intensity and intrigue of the program. The various medical cases that the show
involves keep me on my toes and excited for what is about to happen next. It wasn t until this week,
however, that I noticed just how many inequalities and separations there are between men and
women in the show. First of all, the main character of House, Dr. Greg House, is a man. Whether or
not the position could be played as either a man or a woman, I do not know. However, I should say
that Hugh Laurie, the actor, does a truly remarkable job (he won a... Show more content on

He has absolutely no tact in dealing with her, and has mentioned on made many remarks about her
gender. Later, I will discuss how this is evident even in this one particular episode. To only look
at House s relationship with Cameron, however, would prove as an injustice. House is equally
rude and uncouth with his other two employees. One is black, and one is British. To say that
House ignores either of these factors would be completely incorrect. House refers to the black
man as darky , asks him about crime related incidents, all in an effort to spite him. This is the
same way he speaks with Cameron about her womanhood. Is he sexist? Is he racist? Maybe.
Personally, I feel that he is not meant to be portrayed as such. I think he is just an old, angry
man. Tonight s episode did not disappoint, and has actually proved quite pertinent to this
assignment. It revolves around a sixteen year old supermodel who has a panic attack on the
runway, punches a fellow model, and then collapses to the ground, unable to move, but still aware
of what is around her. When she arrives at the hospital, her father admits to giving her Valium prior
to her performance in order to help with nerves. Also, he later admits to having had sex with her a
year or so again. House is not concerned with this information, and decided to keep the father
around to ask him more questions about the daughter. Cameron, however, finds this information
very troubling and reports him. At the very end of the

The Cold War Between America And The Soviet Union
The Cold War
The Cold War occurred after the traumatic events of World War 2, that lasted almost 50 years,
beginning in 1945 and lasting through 1991. Even though, the United States and the Soviet Union
were allies during World War 2, political tensions arose between the two nations that resulted in the
production of nuclear weaponry, race of producing superior space mechanisms, and billions of
dollars spent.
The Cold Waris used to describe the relationship between America and the Soviet Union 1945 to
1980. Neither side ever fought the other the consequences would be too appalling but they did fight
for their beliefs using client states who fought for their beliefs on their behalf, South Vietnam was
anti communist and was supplied by America during the war while North Vietnam was pro
Communist and fought the south (and the Americans) using weapons from communist Russia or
communist China. In Afghanistan, the Americans supplied the rebel Afghans after the Soviet
Union invaded in 1979 while they never physically involved themselves thus avoiding a direct clash
with the Soviet Union.

Features Of A Relational Database
Features of a relational database
Primary keys:
The main feature of a relation database would be the primary key. It is a unique identifier set to
each and every record that travels across different tables in relationships. An example of a
primary key is a Social Security number. The primary keys job is to make each record unique and
it lets data to be kept in more than one table. Each table within a relational database will have a field
for the primary key. Foreign keys:
A foreign key is a column in a database that links data between tables by cross referencing
because it references primary keys from other tables. For example if there are two tables, customer
and order then a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Validation rules
Validation within a database is used to make sure the data entered into the database is sensible
and makes sense, also to avoid any typing errors. You make a rule which only allows certain
things to be typed into the database e.g. only 11 numbers for a mobile phone number so that you
don t accidently type the wrong amount of digits. It will come up as an error if you try and then
that is when you notice your mistake. Benefits
Having a relational database will greatly reduce the data redundancy because it will get rid of the
repeated data within a database. This is done by going through the normalisation process and
therefore since there is less data in the database it is much faster access, searching data, updating
data, sorting and reporting.
Stages of normalisation
The steps of normalisation will be fully explained in the following steps: Firstly you need to turn
this into a unormalised table by:
Create column headings for the table for each data item on the report and ignore any calculated

Obscenity in Fun Home
Should it be acceptable to implement obscene literature in the education curriculum, even at the
cost of one s moral beliefs? Fun Home, written by Alison Bechdel, is a graphic memoir that
illustrates the relationship of the character Alison with her father, Bruce. Although they did not
share an intimate father daughter bond in Alison s childhood, Alison grows up to bear many of her
father s traits, such as being queer. Unfortunately, her memories with her father are short lived, as
her father commits suicide when she turned twenty. As a result, she attempts to unlock her closeted
father s life and understand his struggles. A recurring theme throughout Fun Home is sexuality and

The College of Charleston had assigned Fun Home to the incoming students. The House lawmakers
were not pleased with Fun Home s theme of homosexuality and the text s depiction of sexual
imagery. Some students, in retaliation had organized protests convincing the governor to stop the
House from cutting down the funds (McCammon, 2014). On the other hand, some students down in
North Carolina, one being Brain Grasso, agreed to the fact that the story contains obscenity. They
refused to read the book as its content goes against their religious and moral beliefs (Grasso, 2015).
Professors might contend on the issue of academic freedom. However, obscenity is prevalent in the
book Fun Home and is gratuitously portrayed through the graphic. This could violate the moral
principles of some students. By incorporating this book in the curriculum, the professors would not
be redeeming social importance (Rault 100). The dictionary definition of obscenity is the depiction
of sexual matters in a way that infringes on standards of decency and morality. However, the extent
to which it contravenes the standards of morality is entirely subjective. My interpretation derives
from a Supreme Court ruling that concluded in a 1966 case that in order to establish obscenity, the
content must be utterly without redeeming social importance (Rault 100). I agree with those
professors who argue academic freedom:

Treisman s Attention Study
A second model of attention comes from Treisman s attenuation model (1960). This suggests that
incoming stimuli undergo three tests analysing different characteristics of the stimuli. With a
lexicon between sensory feature information and the filter, the meaning of words are automatically
activated. According to this model, attention is required for processing items at higher levels, but
for individual words, attention is not obligatory.
Support for Treisman s attenuation model emanates from the findings of Cherry and Kruger (1983).
In the presence of a distractor in the non shadowed channel, particularly semantic, the ability of
learning disabled children to point to pictures relating to words in the shadowed channel was
significantly worse, highlighting an inability to control the attenuation of non shadowed messages.
Since a matched pairs design was used, extraneous variables such as individual differences were
reduced, which increases our confidence in the findings. Although, like in many other attention
studies, the DLT is artificial, making it difficult to generalise findings from the... Show more

Subjects were required to make two responses (shadow and tap) to target words in shadowed
messages, whilst only being required to make one response (tap) to those in the non shadowed

persuading subjects to focus more attention. Thus, results may have been influenced by
methodology more than the influence of selective attention. Albeit, a replication of the study was
conducted in which the same response was used for both messages (Treisman Riley, 1969). Many
more target words were still detected from the shadowed message. Thus, all in all, these findings

For wireless underwater communication, there are several means such as radio waves, optical
waves and acoustics.
Radio waves:
Radio wave has extra low frequency (30 Hz 300 Hz) and it works well to propagate any distance in
sea water. But, for its low frequency, it is needed high transmission power and large antennas.
Optical waves:
An optical wave for wireless communication has big advantage as it exceed 1 Giga bps. It can t
cross water boundary easily, suffers from severe absorption and scattering suspending particles and
planktons is significant Moderate link range (up to tens of meters).
Acoustics:
.As underwater acoustic communication is a technique of sending and receiving message below
water but there are some main limitations and challenges like time variations of the channel,
available bandwidth (small), signal attenuation (strong), multi path propagation, under water
communication is difficult especially for long distances.
Attenuation of Acoustic Propagation
Absorption is one of the draw backs for underwater acoustic channel caused by the water viscosity,
which depends on temperature and salinity (for larger frequencies), and the chemical composition

The Theme Of Fate In I Am Mordred
Fate in I Am Mordred
The idea that fate is inevitable manifests itself throughout the Arthurian legend I am Mordred. Fate
s a predestined fortune that is supposedly inevitable. (fate) The question of changing fate prevails
as an underlying theme in the book. Characters lives and choices revolve around the idea of their
predetermined destiny. It proves difficult to decide whether fate is escapable or not.
From the beginning of the book Mordred s fate plays a key factor in characters actions. The king s
advisor Merlin prophesied Mordred to kill his father, King Arthur, when he reaches the age of
seventeen. When the prologue starts King Arthur s sacrificing all the male babies in the
kingdom who were born on May Day, including Mordred. This will supposedly change the fate
prophesized for them according to his advisor Merlin. But Merlin had spoken: Let all male
babies of the nobility born on May Day be brought to the shore. That was the sort of thing that
happened when the King did wrong (Springer Vii). King Arthur thought by doing this he had
managed to avoid his predestined doom. As soon as chapter one starts, it reveals one baby out
of the forty brought to sea managed to survive. That one baby was King Arthur s son, Mordred.
He was saved by a couple who lived by the sea. They raise him as their own and he becomes a part
of their fisher family. At this point Mordred has not managed to escape his fate and King Arthur
hasn t either.

How Does Hal Change In King Henry Iv Part 1
Hal is often referred to as the prodigal son of Shakespeare s King Henry IV Part I. Wasteful and
lazy, Hal is seen more often drinking in a tavern or robbing others than serving as the next king
of England, though he claims that to be all an act in Act I Scene II, where he promises to redeem
himself. However, this claim seems dubious at best, Hal immediately going to then play a trick
on Falstaff and rob him. However, things seem to change in Act III Scene II. In this scene, King
Henry IV has called his son to his castle to discuss the future of England and how Hal is acting
less like a prince, and more like the wretched King Richard II, who Henry IV disposed to take the
throne. Hal replies to his father, promising that he will redeem himself in his father s eyes and in
the eyes of the English noblemen by killing Hotspur, one of the leaders of the rebellion against the
king. This speech marks a major character shift in Hal and his motivations shift from drinking and
lounging about, to that of redemption and honor through battle. This character shift is seen through
many literary devices, such as the religious and familial diction, the personification of Hal s actions,
and the juxtaposition between Hotspur and Hal.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mass Media In The 1920s
Mass media during the 1920s united the nation and created an economic boom in new areas of
entertainment and leisure. As technology advanced, new forms of communication and
entertainment began to rise. A variety of new entertainment like radio, magazines, and movies
with sound became common and popular. Over 700 films were produced each year, over 100

The demand of new forms of media began to increase due to the thirst to live vicariously through

Analysis Of Genghis Khan And The Mongols

the planet. In this essay the discussion of Genghis Khan, the Mongols, and the culture and ways of

Khan: The making of the modern world
Its been nearly eight hundred years since the existence of the Mongolian empire and yet many
concepts are still in use today in this modern age. An example of this is the use of state and
federal law. This came from Khan, at its time it was not called state and federal law, At the time
Khan had in motion the use of The Great Law, in modern age this would be the federal law. A
law to rule over all territories under Khans control and he was also a fair leader. People had self
rule if they stayed loyal to the Mongols and common people felt some sort of benefit from this.
They never participated in hostage taking or ransoms but would kill the leader and allow for the
common people to have a voice. He allowed for any enclave to have laws of their own if they
follow the rules of Khan. Yet there are still more elements of how his empire flourished in use today.
Over time, as new lands began to be discovered by mongrel growth, the use of trade became more

Dream Interpretation Research Paper
Dream interpretation is an old tradition that dates back at least as far as Biblical times. Perhaps
the most famous instance of dream interpretation is where the Pharaoh tells David his dreams
about seven skinny sheep eating seven fat sheep and seven skinny ears of corn eating seven fat
ears of corn. David interpreted this to mean seven years of bumper crops followed by seven years
of poor crops. With proper planning, this allowed the Pharaoh to protect his people from potential
famine during the coming lean years.
Dreams can be a means to tap into subconscious thought processes and tell us what we know that
we don t even consciously realize that we know. But we are also more psychically sensitive when
we sleep. So our dreams can contain extra sensory information that is unavailable to most people
when they are awake. Most premonitions of the future actually occur in dream form, not in waking
visions.
The vast majority of the time, dreams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Reflection On The Shelter At The Uu Fellowship Of San...
Introduction Participating in the overnight shelter at the UU Fellowship of San Luis Obispo,
was an eye opening experience. When people think of homeless people, right away they think of
the stereotypical description of a homeless person, such as dirty, on drugs, or mentally ill. I was
one of those people who had a stereotypical picture in my mind, but participating in this shelter
changed my perceptive on the description of homeless. As my shift began, I realized for the
most part the shelter was composed of single women, and two families, including the fathers.
Most of the people were already resting in bed, therefore there wasn t as much interaction
between the volunteers and the clients. I was able to interact with one of the families because
they were out in the hallway with their little boy. From this family, I learned that the father had a
job, but he didn t earn enough to provide housing for his family. The mom didn t work because
she was taking care of her little boy and she was 7 months pregnant. Since the shelter is only
provided for overnight stay, the mom and the little boy sometimes stay at the boyfriend s mother
house during the day. In addition, I noticed that these people have been at the shelter for quite
some time. They were interacting among each other as if they knew who they were, and I noticed
each individual had their own specific bed. Another thing I noticed was a young lady around 20
years old doing homework, which I assume she must be either

The Overuse Of Antibiotics And Antibiotics
The overuse of antibiotics has been a problem for well over a decade. This misuse leads to many
nonvisible problems arising within the human population. As the use of antibiotics increases, the
number of antibiotic resistant bacteria also increases. When bacteria become resistant to an
antibiotic, another antibiotic must be used to try and kill it and the cycle becomes vicious. Michael
Martin, Sapna Thottathil, and Thomas Newman stated that antimicrobial resistance is, an
increasingly serious threat to global public health that requires action across all government sectors
and society (2409).
Take for example MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus), a S. aureus strain that was
discovered in 1961 to be resistant to the antibiotic methicillin. Webmd indicates that MRSA has now
grown its resistance from methicillin to amoxicillin, penicillin, oxacillin and many other common
antibiotics (MRSA). This increase in resistance of a methicillin resistant strain of S. aureus can be
attributed to the increasing use and overuse of antibiotics, not only in the doctor s office but also in
agriculture. MRSA is only one of many antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. New resistant strains
are evolving rapidly. According to Dr. Ed Warren, there are high levels of antibiotic resistancein
bacteria causing common infections (e.g. urinary tract infections, pneumonia, bloodstream
infections) in all regions of the world (21).
In agriculture, overuse begins with nontherapeutic

6:30pm session on March 20th. The event represented potters, both professional and non, chefs and
cooks, restaurants, bread makers, a temple youth group, volunteers, walk in communities members,
communities leaders and more. At this event, more than 1, 500 small ceramic bowls were on
display. They were all intentionally empty because empty blows represented someone in the
Pittsburgh community who struggles to fill up the real bowls in their homes with food. I walked
the venue, and aside each blow was educational facts about hungry in America. I interacted... Show

With globalizations, middle class Americans are experiencing a new level of employment
uncertainty, which speaks to the increase in homelessness and food insecurity. According to our
class guest speaker Vic Papale, Americans are faced with higher domestic food prices, reduced
incomes and employment and having already sold off assets, reduced food consumption and cut
spending on essential items such as health care and education. These families and individuals risk
falling deeper into destitution and the hunger poverty trap. In other words, hunger makes poverty
intergenerational. In terms of employment, we discussed in class how employers prefer not to
employ the undernourished, ill dressed or uneducated. However, individuals or families that are
experiencing consistent food insecurity are often poor and or, undernourish. Therefore, without an
equal chance to represent their capabilities or speak on behalf of themselves, this population is
excluded from the job market. This is a fact that many politicians, job makers and lawmakers cease

The Latehomecomer Essay
The book, The Latehomecomer, is a fascinating story about a Hmong family and their struggle to
get out of Laos and come to America as refugees. The Hmong people are a very proud people and
they do not want to forget their culture. One can clearly see that the Hmong people hold close their
identity and do not want to conform to the Vietnamese way. They take pride in their culture, their
society, and the way they view how government should run. Hmong peopledid not agree with the
Vietnamese communist government and were willing to join forces and help the United Statesas
much as possible so that they could fight for what they believed in. Even though most of the young

It was very tough for the Hmong s that were still in Vietnam and Laos after the war. The American
armed forces was these people s only protection and after they just picked up and left for their
home shores the Hmong people that were still alive faced severe hardships. They had no food
and water and most of their homes were all destroyed. Most of the men and young adult boys
were killed in the war and the Vietnamese and Laos soldiers were still pursing the Hmong people
because they wanted to terminate the Hmong people. It was also tough for the Hmong people
that were left because the American s had stopped bringing food drops along with medical
supplies. I believe family is such an important part in this family s life because they are all that
each other has got. They hold close to their family because they have been through so much and
they see death all around them, so they see the importance of their family. They also are taught
from a very young age to respect their elders in the family because they have seen much more
and know much more about all aspects of life. They are viewed as wise and knowledgeable and
the young family members cherish the opportunity to learn from them. In the movie Gran Torino
one can get an idea for the respect most of the young people have for their elders. Tao and his
sister show a great deal of respect to their mother and

The Supply Of Supply Chain Management Essay
The supply chain management basically involves processes and activities which are involved in the
planning, organising, controlling and implementing the cost effective flow of goods from the point
of origin to the point of consumption. The whole process will have different players like the
supplier, manufacturer, distributor, retailers and the customers themselves as the end point of
consumption. The supply chain has changed drastically over the years. This days they are very
global in nature. Involving various complex interactions and flow of goods, data and funds between
companies which are situated in different countries and continents. Even though the companies are
spread across the world the manufacturing plants generally follow a similar structure which
normally comprises of the suppliers, manufacturing plants, distributors, retailers, inbound and
outbound logistics providers. There were a lot of challenges which arose because of the
competition which made the companies to rethink their strategies in order to get the product to the
right place at the right time at the lowest cost possible. The companies should always look at
improving the whole supply chain and every player in the chain should coordinate with one
another if they want to increase the efficiency. The organisation should realise the strategic
importance of supply chain as it is a key to building a sustainable competitive edge. (Li, Ragu
Nathan, Ragu Nathan, Rao, 2006). There is always a constant flow

When a child was born of slave parentage, most slave owners would separate the child from the
mother at a young age. Many were taken when they were as young as three, others stayed until
they were seven. Some parents of slave children would even take the lives of their families, in
order to spare the heartache of seperation. As stated in the article Slave FamilyLife by Digital

grew up in households from which one or both parents were absent. The slave children would

Alternative Medicine vs. Conventional Medicine Essay

Alternative Medicine vs. Conventional Medicine
July 25, 2010
Introduction
It is important to understand the cause of the current crisis on the matter, factors that lead to
diseases and good health, in addition to the steps that need to be taken by an individual so as to
maintain good health.
Traditional medicine, also known as conventional medicine, relies on scientific principles,
contemporary technologies as well as scientifically proved methodologies for purposes of
preventing, diagnosing, and treating adverse medical conditions (Treweek amp;Heller, 2006).
Health care professionals within conventional medicine believe that diseases are caused by

These therapies have proved to be of much benefit in supporting the normal healing course of the
body. Even though there are many modern alternative remedies, with different beliefs, all of them
operate under some common principles. One of these principles is that the body has the capacity to
heal naturally and maintain stability (Paquette, 2000). The other one is that adverse health
conditions can occur as a result of factors emanating from mind, emotions and the body. Alternative
medicine, according to Goldberg, Trivieri and Anderson, (2002), focuses on determining the chief
cause of a particular condition, and dealing with the whole person rather that concentrating on
symptoms. If a person pays close attention to his/her health he/she can contribute to his/her
wellbeing. Alternative medicine holds firmly to the principle that one treatment cannot be used for
all people even though they may be suffering from the same condition. Each and every person as
per alternative medicine has distinct bodily, mind and spiritual make up (Goldberg, Trivieri and
Anderson, 2002).
Health care professionals within conventional medicine believe that diseases are caused by
microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses.

By the time we got to camp we were all out of ammunition, hungry, thirsty and one of the
doughboys forgot to let us know he lice so he shared that with us to. That was about a week ago
today actually when we got there the French had us taken to the nearest American camp like
twenty miles north west. When we got there we were bombarded with questions like where had
we come from to people asking us if we are deserters to the cause. Tomorrow, the 30th of August,
though my squad and I go back into the war after the commanding officer gave us a few days
after our journey. I swear though I will be part of the group to take back that camp. Today is the
5th of September and the trenches here are even worse than where my squad and I were here
they are standing on dead bodies of fallen soldiers some people are killing rats for fun. The worse
part about it here is at a certain time every day the Germans try to cross No Man s Land behind
the brigade of bombings from air planes and tanks and the poisonous gas of the Germans. I ll
send this letter to you out of here on September 18th. Hello Mr. Bringit, I m sorry to tell you this

  • 2. The Legacy Of Rhode Island Vincent Buddy Cianci was born April thirtieth, 1941 . His career was fraught with conspiracy and crime, but he is still considered to be one of the most beloved political figures in Providence, Rhode Island s colorful history. He earned his first term as mayor at age thirty three, in 1975. He would serve six terms as mayor over the course of three decades. Buddy died just last year, January twenty eighth, 2016 after losing a battle with cancer. The city and surrounding towns mourned together at the loss of an incredibly controversial, but deeply loved political leader. His six terms made him one of the longest running mayors in United States history. Cianci s loved Providenceso deeply that in trying to help, he shaved away at his honest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Providence was no longer the bustling hub that it used to be. The city never really recovered, it now houses many of the lower middle class and minority communities. This type of implosions is sometimes referred to as white flight, the white middle and upper class fled the city leaving the lower classes to live in dissolving, disheveled neighborhoods . The Italian neighborhood, Federal Hill, fell under the control of organized crime during this weakened economic window, this would remain a prominent authority in Providence until the late 1990s. Today the tendrils of mobster influence still can be seen but in a lesser degree than in the 1970s. Politically, Providence was always a bit corrupted. It ran on a patronage system where a person would scavenge and promote democratic voting and in return, the democrats would give the person who gathered the votes a government job . This continued well into the twentieth century despite the Pendleton Act of 1883 which stated that government jobs should be awarded based on the potential employee s merit rather than their political affiliations or connection . The politics were not clean, it was run by the Democratic machine which kept the city spiraling down by putting the same ineffective politicians in charge. • 3. Irony In Roald Dahl s Lamb To The Slaughter Authors use literary elements dramatically in short stories to influence a certain feeling on the reader or to send out a certain message to the audience. Throughout the stories, The Interlopers and Lamb to the Slaughter , both authors use elements to make their story appealing to the reader. Saki, the author of The Interlopers uses his examples of literary elements precisely and tremendously, which makes his story better than Dahl s Lamb to the Slaughter . The author of the story Lamb to the Slaughter , Roald Dahl, uses a significant amount of irony throughout the story. Dahl uses irony to make his story more appealing to the reader by keeping them engaged. An example of irony in the story is when Mary is six months pregnant and her husband expresses he is leaving her, so she murders him. The audience would have never seen this coming because the author expresses Mary s feelings from the beginning of the story by saying, She loved him for the way he sat loosely in a chair, for the way he came in the door or moved slowly across the room with long strides. She loved the intent, far look in his eyes when they rested on her, the funny shape of the mouth, and especially the way he remained silent about his tiredness, sitting still with himself until the whiskey had taken some of it away. (Dahl 1 2). When Dahl shares Mary s feelings, the reader concludes that Mary is an innocent, loving wife that truly loves her husband and would do absolutely anything for him. But when Mary murders him after he decides to leave, situational irony appears. This is an example of situational irony because the reader would never expect Mary to murder her husband, but the exact opposite occurs. Dahl also uses situational irony as an example of language. The language makes the story more intriguing and exciting. The situational irony is used in the story to shock the reader and to create the climax of the plot. Dahl also uses imagery throughout Lamb to the Slaughter. An example of imagery is when Dahl describes in depth how Mary murdered her husband, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his ... So here is an essay that I wrote a couple of months ago for school, which is all about filmpiracy and why I m against it. The essay managed to get an extremely high excellence. See how different my writing is when I m at school compared to when I m blogging (if I seem to be over exaggerating a lot this is because I m just trying to get my point across, as I am supposed to be writing this essay for a school magazine ): In 1927, the first sound movie, called The Jazz Singer, was made. With the internet s continual rapid growth, these numbers are set to get bigger eventuating in a criminal act such as piracy becoming the biggest user of the internet. People are under the impression that downloading/watching a pirated film on the internet is harmless, when it is really theft. What these people fail to realise is that film making accounts for over 2.4 million jobs in the US, and is a major contributor to the global economy. The film industry isn t the only one that loses money to piracy, as the Department for Professional Employees says the government loses tax revenue that would have been generated by the sale of non pirated goods. The Motion Picture Association of America says that an estimated $58 billion in economic output is lost to the US economy annually due to copyright theft. This has a resounding effect on the jobs needed to make films. Most of the workers in Hollywood are on average wages even though their services such as costume making, food preparing or assisting directors are all vital. If their films fail to earn their budget back, their wages are cut, or even worse, they lose their job. Films aren t just about the rich actors and lavish sets that appear on screen. ... With the economy booming and the creation of new and innovative technologies, it was believed that a majority of society was well off during this time period. With new forms of mass media and advertising, people were under the impression that the stock market was booming and that the economy was doing well. Rebirth In Hinduism When the charioteer of Prince Arjuna, Krishna (who is an avatar of the god Vishnu), tries to convince the prince to fight against his own relatives, he invokes some of the core concepts of Hinduism, such as karma, dharma, samsara, and brahman. The avatar Krishna brought up Hindu concept of atman saying, the Eternal [atman] in man cannot die . Hindus believe in brahman, the essence of life. The brahman in humans is the soul, or atman. As opposed to the human body, the atman is eternal. The ultimate goal in Hinduismis to achieve moksha, or reunion with brahman. But it takes multiple lifetimes to achieve moksha, so Hindus believe in samsara, or rebirth. After the physical death of the human body, the atman then takes another form and Krishna reminds Arjuna of this by saying, As...our mortal body wanders on in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A person has a higher chance of being united with brahman if they build up good karma throughout their lifetime. In order to build up good karma, one must fulfill his or her dharma. Krishna repeatedly invokes this concept of dharma. Karma is a person s actions which, if used to fulfill their dharma, lead to good karma. Good karma results in the person s atman being reincarnated in a higher being, and so is therefore closer to achieving the ultimate goal of moksha, or reunion with the divine. Since Prince Arjuna is a warrior, his duty is to fight. Krishna invokes this by saying Think thou of thy duty and do not waver. Not fulfilling one s dharma means that person will get bad karma, and therefore be farther away from achieving the Hindu goal of moksha. Since Arjuna s duty is to fight, him not fighting, even if it means killing his own relatives, is him not fulfilling his dharma. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Autobiography Of Education Education is highly valued in my family. As a child, I grew up in a household with loving parents that both worked in Education. I was born in Hunan, China. The day of May 23, 2001 will forever be important to me. This is the day that my parents were united with me. Once I arrived at my new home in the United States, everything would change for me. Most changes were positive and others were setbacks or challenges. By the age of seventeen, I have attended six different schools in two different states. My first home, the place that I made most of my closest friends, was WashingtonState. In preschool, I attended a private Montessori school till I was five years old. This is where I learned the alphabet and other skills for the future. Preschool was the stepping stone of the start of my educationin Washington. At age 6, it was time for me to attend elementary school. My parents, hoped they could find a school that would be best for me. The first school I went to was a public school. Soon, a setback of mine would arise and affect me in many ways. While I attended Black Diamond Elementary School, my mother, had asked one of the teachers, When will you start teaching my daughter how to read ? Their response was of something that did not impress my parents. They had told her that I could just look at pictures in the books or have others read to me. Just as I begin to make good friends, I find out that I have to move to a different elementary school. Reading used to be difficult for me growing up until I received extra help. One of my first grade teachers offered to help me improve my reading skills. After second grade, I started third grade at a new private school thirty five minutes away from home. My challenge with reading and math continued through my next four years at the new private school. At Annie Wright School I had a reading skills teacher helped me in weekly sessions to improve my reading fluency. During sixth grade, my parents thought that enrolling me in Kumon would help me improve my math skills. Kumon helped me up until the end of sixth grade when, yet again, my family moved across the country to a small town called Holderness, New Hampshire. • 9. Grotesque Stereotypes We later used these characteristics of high status in a perverse male character obsessed with being with ever younger women to the point we parody him eventually masturbating a baby. The movements become ape like, panting like a dog and soon he was on his knees barking and entirely playing the dog. We were able to challenge the common fetish of older men and the desire to make themselves look younger. The purpose of these scenes was to make the audience unable to ignore the message we were projecting; an understanding that our position in society is only defined relative to those we consider to be lesser or greater than our own. By forcing the audience to consider their roles in these relationships it becomes an easy step for them to see their place in a wider flawed system as noted from the lecturer s course material, absent target eg the establishment , personal target eg the audience (Taaffe 2015 2016) Whilst I had very little knowledge of Grotesque or Bouffon as theatrical art forms before starting the module, I had quickly become ... Compare And Contrast Jefferson And Jackson While Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson laid their interests in distinctive areas of the nation and enforced their beliefs with differing actions, many similarities can be found between the two presidents. For example, both presidents portrayed themselves as the common man , advocating for the lower classes and believing that the federal government should not be involved in state affairs. Both opposed the ruling of the aristocratic elite and advocated for equal rights for all, special privileges for none . However, although both believed that majority should have power, Jefferson and Jackson had contradictory views on education, holding office, and industrialization all of which influenced their actions as president. They opposed the Bank and believed the Constitution gave specific powers to the President, and were both democrats who believed the nation was founded on the work of the lower classes, and that the rich should not receive special privileges simply because of their status. Jefferson was against anything that he felt would hurt the common man , such as the Bank and a strong central government. He was also a strong supporter of the Bill of Rights, advocating for protecting the privileges of the people. Jackson favored common people over the wealthy and his presidency shifted the power from New England to the western farmers. He also opposed the Bank, and furthered his opposition when he took drastic measures to dispose of the Bank. Jefferson and Jackson were undoubtedly similar in their drive and willingness to provide the best for the common man . While they were similar in this way, Jefferson bent his ideals while purchasing the Louisiana Territory because it was an opportunity for the nation. Jackson, however, stayed true to his policies and shut down the Bank because the Constitution did not give him the power to create one. Jefferson s support of the common man was limited to farmers, whom he supported by promoting nation wide education, suppressing industrialization and expanding the boundaries of America. Jackson s support was more intense, taking the money out of the Bank and dispersing it into state banks for example. He supported the laborers and mechanics by believing that anyone is qualified for office, and by removing the Indians from lands west of the Mississippi in order to calm internal ... • 11. The Assassination Of Jfk By Lee Harvey Oswald The shot seen across the country. The assassination of JFK still stands today as one of the most shocking events in American history. Its had a larger impact because of the fact that it was on national television and because of its graphic nature. Since we will never know the true motive of Lee Harvey Oswald, the only thing that we could do is make our own assumptions. That is what we ve done, which have only made things more difficult for us to grasp and have created more conspiracy theories. I will get into the immediate effects that his actions caused such as the Warren Commission and what the report said and did. Mystery still surrounds this whole event because he was killed before he could even go on trial for his murders. That s also what ties in Jack Ruby to a conspiracy because killing Oswald, made it look like he was trying to hide something. This event has a lot of moving parts, especially with all of the different conspiracy theories. I wasn t all that familiar with the details of the assassination, but after gathering all of the information and reading about all the conspiracy theories, they all seem to be real possibilities. All of the theories do seem a little far fetched, but they all have some good evidence to support it. All I can say is that learning about this assassination has certainly made me think. Also, the atmosphere on Mars is equal to about 1% of the Earth s atmosphere at sea level. After Earth, Mars is the planet with the most livable climate in the solar system. So livable it may once have harbored primitive, bacteria like life. Outflow channels and other geologic features provide ample evidence that billions of years ago water flowed on the surface of Mars. This is a subtype of computed tomography which utilizes an x ray beam in the form of cone instead of the conventional fan one (88). For standard full field of view for CBCT, polychromatic X rays are generated from a source tube generated by 100 120 kV tube potential using 1.5 10 mA current (89). The generated X ray photon energy is absorbed by different materials found beВ¬tween the X ray source and detector. The remaining energy after materials absorption is recorded on a film detector as expressed by intensity (I) that means energy per area and time. Additionally, beam hardening happens as the energy levels of polychromatic X ray beams used with the CBCT are not uniform, so the lower energy photons can be absorbed easily at the edges of the scanned area causing hardening of the X ray beam, which resulting in lower gray values toward the subject center causing what is called cupВ¬ping artifact even if the density all over the subject is identical (91) Ring artifacts caused by defects or un calibrated components in the detector forming concentric rings in the CBCT imВ¬age. Dense metallic materials scanning can cause severe streaking artifacts when their gray values are more than the maxiВ¬mum level of operation that the software can deal with (91). Patient motion during CBCT scanning can cause shading or streaking artefacts that appear when the gray values are incorrectly registered on the resultant image (90, 91). • 17. Emergency Evacuation Planning ABSTRACT: Emergency evacuation is movement of people away from the place of accident/hazard immediately to a safer place. This results in confusion and commotion causing more harm to people in and around the place of accident/hazard. Thus, planning an emergency evacuation is a complex procedure which includes routing evacuees, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. During such catastrophic events, the evacuation routing models are vital to the evacuation planning problems. Since, transportation infrastructure is a limited resource both in terms of directional accessibility and capacity, it is worthy of well planning evacuation routes in advance so as to ensure a safe evacuee routing decision and efficient utilization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a disaster or incident occurs, evacuees start to panic in general and may compete for the egress routes without considering others if no proper evacuation routes are planned. Movement of evacuees may cause congestion on road networks in large scale evacuations. However, considering roadway capacities may severely limit the efficiency of the evacuation, which will naturally force motorists find ways to divert around the disaster event. People are constrained during an evacuation by the capacity of the road network, which in turn dictates evacuation times. Evacuation planning therefore becomes critically important and essential to foster emergency evacuation strategies in defining feasible evacuation routes and their traffic impact on the existing roadway network for varied scenarios of disaster events. Without it, an effective evaluation practice would be unlikely. Such an evacuation planning modelling is a complex problem with routing evacuee behavioral and management facets, identifying shelters and exits, and designing traffic control. The evacuees must be routed to safety under dynamic hazard and traffic conditions. Any number of transportation problems can arise during an evacuation. A central challenge in managing a regional evacuation is routing people to safety. An efficient routing plan is valuable because evacuations routinely result in travel demand that exceeds the available network capacity. In emergency planning, GIS is valuable to provide the data required by the evacuation models. On the other hand, traffic simulation models have been developed for simulating traveler behavior and vehicle movement process. Thus this learning module explains the integrity between the GIS and Transportation Engineering in the real life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This suggests that incoming stimuli undergo three tests analysing different characteristics of the stimuli. With a lexicon between sensory feature information and the filter, the meaning of words are automatically activated. According to this model, attention is required for processing items at higher levels, but for individual words, attention is not obligatory. Support for Treisman s attenuation model emanates from the findings of Cherry and Kruger (1983). In the presence of a distractor in the non shadowed channel, particularly semantic, the ability of learning disabled children to point to pictures relating to words in the shadowed channel was significantly worse, highlighting an inability to control the attenuation of non shadowed messages. Being in another person s shoes implies empathy and the ability to practice this trait in our professions will improve compassionate care (Bramley Matiti, 2014). In my film, it shows that studying does take a large portion of my day and is stressful, but Phileo shows compassion by understanding my feelings, my emotions, and my position as a student and keeps me company through it all. My expression in the beginning of studying is downcast but after being supported and encouraged by Phileo, and is shown in our facial expressions and even in the way I was hugging tightly (Rillera, 2017, 00:00:33). • 36. Dream Interpretation Research Paper Dream interpretation is an old tradition that dates back at least as far as Biblical times. Perhaps the most famous instance of dream interpretation is where the Pharaoh tells David his dreams about seven skinny sheep eating seven fat sheep and seven skinny ears of corn eating seven fat ears of corn. David interpreted this to mean seven years of bumper crops followed by seven years of poor crops. With proper planning, this allowed the Pharaoh to protect his people from potential famine during the coming lean years. Dreams can be a means to tap into subconscious thought processes and tell us what we know that we don t even consciously realize that we know. But we are also more psychically sensitive when we sleep. So our dreams can contain extra sensory information that is unavailable to most people when they are awake. Most premonitions of the future actually occur in dream form, not in waking visions. The vast majority of the time, dreams ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 37. A Reflection On The Shelter At The Uu Fellowship Of San... Introduction Participating in the overnight shelter at the UU Fellowship of San Luis Obispo, was an eye opening experience. When people think of homeless people, right away they think of the stereotypical description of a homeless person, such as dirty, on drugs, or mentally ill. I was one of those people who had a stereotypical picture in my mind, but participating in this shelter changed my perceptive on the description of homeless. As my shift began, I realized for the most part the shelter was composed of single women, and two families, including the fathers. Most of the people were already resting in bed, therefore there wasn t as much interaction between the volunteers and the clients. I was able to interact with one of the families because they were out in the hallway with their little boy. From this family, I learned that the father had a job, but he didn t earn enough to provide housing for his family. The mom didn t work because she was taking care of her little boy and she was 7 months pregnant. Since the shelter is only provided for overnight stay, the mom and the little boy sometimes stay at the boyfriend s mother house during the day. In addition, I noticed that these people have been at the shelter for quite some time. They were interacting among each other as if they knew who they were, and I noticed each individual had their own specific bed. Another thing I noticed was a young lady around 20 years old doing homework, which I assume she must be either ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Overuse Of Antibiotics And Antibiotics The overuse of antibiotics has been a problem for well over a decade. This misuse leads to many nonvisible problems arising within the human population. As the use of antibiotics increases, the number of antibiotic resistant bacteria also increases. When bacteria become resistant to an antibiotic, another antibiotic must be used to try and kill it and the cycle becomes vicious. Michael Martin, Sapna Thottathil, and Thomas Newman stated that antimicrobial resistance is, an increasingly serious threat to global public health that requires action across all government sectors and society (2409). Take for example MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus), a S. aureus strain that was discovered in 1961 to be resistant to the antibiotic methicillin. Webmd indicates that MRSA has now grown its resistance from methicillin to amoxicillin, penicillin, oxacillin and many other common antibiotics (MRSA). This increase in resistance of a methicillin resistant strain of S. aureus can be attributed to the increasing use and overuse of antibiotics, not only in the doctor s office but also in agriculture. MRSA is only one of many antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. New resistant strains are evolving rapidly. According to Dr. Ed Warren, there are high levels of antibiotic resistancein bacteria causing common infections (e.g. urinary tract infections, pneumonia, bloodstream infections) in all regions of the world (21). According to our class guest speaker Vic Papale, Americans are faced with higher domestic food prices, reduced incomes and employment and having already sold off assets, reduced food consumption and cut spending on essential items such as health care and education. These families and individuals risk falling deeper into destitution and the hunger poverty trap. In other words, hunger makes poverty intergenerational. In terms of employment, we discussed in class how employers prefer not to employ the undernourished, ill dressed or uneducated. However, individuals or families that are experiencing consistent food insecurity are often poor and or, undernourish. The Supply Of Supply Chain Management Essay The supply chain management basically involves processes and activities which are involved in the planning, organising, controlling and implementing the cost effective flow of goods from the point of origin to the point of consumption. The whole process will have different players like the supplier, manufacturer, distributor, retailers and the customers themselves as the end point of consumption. The supply chain has changed drastically over the years. This days they are very global in nature. There were a lot of challenges which arose because of the competition which made the companies to rethink their strategies in order to get the product to the right place at the right time at the lowest cost possible. The companies should always look at improving the whole supply chain and every player in the chain should coordinate with one another if they want to increase the efficiency. The organisation should realise the strategic importance of supply chain as it is a key to building a sustainable competitive edge. (Li, Ragu Nathan, Ragu Nathan, Rao, 2006). Traditional medicine, also known as conventional medicine, relies on scientific principles, contemporary technologies as well as scientifically proved methodologies for purposes of preventing, diagnosing, and treating adverse medical conditions (Treweek amp;Heller, 2006). These therapies have proved to be of much benefit in supporting the normal healing course of the body. Even though there are many modern alternative remedies, with different beliefs, all of them operate under some common principles. The other one is that adverse health conditions can occur as a result of factors emanating from mind, emotions and the body. Alternative medicine, according to Goldberg, Trivieri and Anderson, (2002), focuses on determining the chief cause of a particular condition, and dealing with the whole person rather that concentrating on symptoms.
