Mungo Park was a Scottish explorer born in 1771 who is famous for his journeys along the Niger River in Africa. On his first journey in 1793, he sailed from England to Indonesia and discovered 8 new fish and rare plant species. On his second journey in 1796, Mungo Park sailed from England to the Niger River in Africa funded by Sir Joseph Banks. He navigated over 13,500 kilometers along the Niger River, having some close encounters, but managing to survive. Sadly, Mungo Park was never seen again after 1805 in Gambia, Africa.
