Violet Cressy Marcks was born in London on June 9th, 1895 and travelled extensively throughout her life, including journeys from Alaska to Java, Cairo to Cape Town from 1925-1931, and a round-the-world trip in 1931. She was married twice, first to Maurice Cressy-Marcks in 1917 and then to Francis Fisher in 1931, and used a compass on many of her travels.
